Mr. Risky: interesting scenario. isnt it. look at it this way for the good companies who released bad quarter results or yearly results, it is an opportunity for CICOs to get off the plane and for people who see the value inherent in such companies to further strengthen their positions by buying into any drops in price. i always remind myself- one bad quarter doesnt make a bad company, or even a bad yr sef. As long as there are reasonable SHORT TERM reasons why the results dropped, i can excuse it. Now this si different if the reason behind the drop is a self perpetuating situation or recurring constant. i am not sure if this thought would hold for the fundamental-less ones though. ![]() |

The stock market looks very interesting but, ppl should really with caution. u need to read as much as possible and look at figures and facts before u go into buying any stock. Their are some very good stock gurus here that the newbies can learn from. remember that their is a saying that what the eyes sees doesn't hit the eyes. so if you have to trade in the stock market, plssssss do so wisely. |

@NaijaDr Hoped to get your UBA bid and offer status of the market. I use UBA stockbrokers too but can't get them to include me in their mailing list. Everything about their service indicates overworked staff who haven't got time to attend to anything but buy and sell mandates. |

yodiyokun: I don't see any of the three releasing a bad result. So I fear if they will be attractive ![]() ![]() ![]() The trend has changed, so I am changing along with it. My N2m held down in Diamond Bank since early January would have fetched me no less than 150% returns if I had gone for Capoil, First Alluminium, Evans Medical or Afroil. Just my 3 naira worth ![]() |
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by RoughCut(m): 6:37pm On Mar 17, 2008 |
yodiyokun: If you havent hit ABC do so in the next 2 days if the rumours of an impending PO are confirmed you know what's going to happen. Fundamentally BetaGlass appears most attractive but i think that one don dey fly now and NiwiCable hmnnnnn the jury is out on that one. And you know as well as i do fundamentals and good results do little or nothing on the NSE nowadays. I get ABC and Niwicable. Go for the Alphabets for a quick hit |
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by MrRisky: 6:39pm On Mar 17, 2008 |
I have been aiming to sell my Dangote Sugar as soon as they will release result thinking that that would move the stock, NOW the very REVERSE is the case. Yes, the price will trend up, BUT WHEN?? If people are not impressed with BONUS and DIVIDEND, and are obsessed with LOSSES ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by MrRisky: 6:55pm On Mar 17, 2008 |
Market Review The week still saw a lot of transaction velocity in the insurance sector, much like the attention the banking sector enjoyed in its post-consolidation period. Now that a similar self-induced, second-phase capital base expansion process has begun in that industry as was witnessed in the banking sector, the prospect of growth in insurance business begins to look real. The current share offer of Standard Alliance Insurance Plc aims to boost its capital base to some N20 billion, just as is the impending offer of Staco Insurance. With these, insurance business should be getting much bigger and it's time to begin to indentify the future industry leaders, more a function the capital growth and a crack management team. Operators like Standard Alliance and Staco look poised to play in that class, just as we expect of AIICO, Crusader, Niger, LASACO and a some others. IGI looks set to get listed soon and will also be expected to fight for a frontline position in the sector. In the conglomerates sector, Unilever, which is experiencing a price rally, is expected to sustain it on account of its significant recovery from a loss-making position. Its third quarter to September 2007 PAT of N1.524 billion, compared to a same-period loss of N1.388 for the preceding year, should portend better days for the stock. The company has been on a recovery effort and that is obviously yielding good results, expected to trend further up. Meanwhile, transactions in Transcorp shares were huge in the week, taking the second slot after Universal Insurance (see top trades chart below). The indication: just as there were stockholders wanting to get out, there were those that mopped it up. The stock, in the process, picked a 12.47% rise in price. While the direction of the company cannot easily be pinned down at this point, it's clear that no stakeh older, including the government, wants NITEL or even Transcorp, dead. So, should you really sell now or wait it out? If you have better prospects in an alternative investment, bailing out would be justified. Otherwise, waiting it out is an option to consider. Though the banking sector still commands sustained volume strength (First Bank, Intercontinental, Oceanic, UBA and Fidelity were sector leaders in the week), it continues to trail the insurance sector in trade tempo. More remarkably, nearly all the banks picked losses in the past week (see chart). However, we think the sector's potentials haven't diminished, in spite of current market sentiment. Some have reported very strong earnings growth performance that should boost returns expectations. Consider these, for instance: Fidelity's 160% growth in PBT for Q2 to 31/12/07, Oceanic's 160% PBT growth in Q1 to 31/12/07, Access bank's 206% PBT growth for Q3 to 31/12/07, Afribank's 207% growth in Q3 PBT to 31/12/07 or Bank PHBs 315% growth in PBT for Q2 to 31/12/07. The top level banks have earned well too: UBA 100.66% Q1 growth in PBT or First Bank's 70.37% growth for Q3 to 31/12/07. Taking the results on their face value and considering the ex pansion drive of most of the banks, the current price weakness in the sector needn't cause a panic. |
