btw no ladies should succumb to doing any domestic chores for her boyfriend though that is unacceptable as far as you are not married you are on the same level cos some guys are so traditional they wants to feel like the boss tongue

TOPE2000!:

LOL . . .some guys just like running away from responsibilities grin

It's not a matter of shying away from responsibilities. I think there's a big difference btween BF/GF relationship and marriage. I think all the duties listed by the poster are those of husbands and wives and not for boys and girls practicing with love. Looking at them from African cultural perspective, I think they are not morally and religiously proper for a BF/GF relationship. But for marriage, EXCELLENT!

davidylan:

you even bothered to reply that post, i just shook my head in pity.

How do you mean by that?
Re: Your Duty As Someone's Boyfriend Or Girlfriend? by TheSly: 2:08am On Sep 17, 2009
1. Handy-man: Okay the word’s a bit derogatory, but if I have a BF, he should be there to fix my things. Electrical faults, plumbing, household appliances and even my car. Even if I have to pay for it, he should be the one to take it to the electrician/mechanic and make sure it gets fixed! If I have to travel a far distance, he should be ready to drive me, if I have a flat tire, he should be ready to change it and get it fixed. Infact, if I need anything done, he should get it done. That’s why we really hare their numbers on speed dial
Mr Fix it?  A.k.A Gbewudani In Yoruba . . . .  shocked

2. My escort: Well I can’t go for that wedding/ Party alone! He has to come with me.
Huh? IM I that jobless?  shocked

3. My protector: Okay, before you say another word to me, I’ll have you know that I have a BF :d I actually let a guy go cos he let someone else toast me while I was with him. Before you talk to me, you think of what my BF will do to you!
I fit protect myself? Let alone you? If u hear trouble, Make u no run, cheesy

4. Money: I know you guys don’t want to hear this but it’s the fact! My BF (poorer or richer than I am) pays for my hair and my clothes. Now I don’t expect him to take up totally financial responsibility of me, but if I’m throwing my B/day party, he shd pay for it or at least pay for most of it. He should at least once in a very blue moon, take me and my ladies out! He should pay for some lil things that I need and he should contribute, no matter how small, in anything I do!!

shocked  shocked  shocked   shocked   shocked   shocked shocked  shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked I pity yr husband oh!  embarassed

5. Call me: Now this is a very tick one. If I have a BF, he should be the one calling more often. No matter how busy he is. He should call and check up on me while I’m at work, he should call me when I’m sick, he should call me when he wakes up in the morning and before he sleeps at night. . .  cos I’ll expect him to!

      shocked  shocked
This itself is a problem on its own, Coupled with the ups and downs of life.
With this, It would be a miracle for any G who's been entangled under this to clock 40.  embarassed

6. Be with me: It’s not just the guys that want sex, we want it too. We also love the feeling of curling up in his arms all night long. We love company, we love knowing he’s there!!
       Shuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! shocked embarassed  embarassed  embarassed

Re: Your Duty As Someone's Boyfriend Or Girlfriend? by smooooooth: 8:39am On Sep 17, 2009
there shld be limits to the duties/roles/resposibilities, in a relationship. most of what is listed there shld come in marriage. u rily dnt expect ur gf to cook and do ur laundry all the time, or a bf having to take your car for repairs all the time or do the calling 24/7. i hate it when ladies dont reciprocate my calls. shows the love is one-sided. though what i do most times, is when my gf calls, i cut and call her back instead. that way its okay, knowing she thought about calling.
Re: Your Duty As Someone's Boyfriend Or Girlfriend? by whitelexi(m): 8:50am On Sep 17, 2009
Girls come here and say "i wont do it b4 marriage oh, i wont do his laundry, i wont be cooking for him yada yada yada", wake up and smell the coffee, in naija, girls are already doing it! Its been going on for ages, they do it to show that they are well brought up and can take care of a home even before they marry. A girl will do it to send out a message to her boyfriend (and his family) to say she is ready for that next step to the next level. . .

For those girls in the diaspora that are saying they wont do it, why do u think guys can date u and then run home to marry?  Stop displaying your yeye self pride, it didnt start with u, and it wont end with u. . .  When the time is due, quote me: U will do all of it and even more to secure your man's approval of u!

@smoooooth
She or he doesn't live with u so it can't be all the time. The thing is showing that u care enuff to do these things definitely gonna a long way to show  dat u love the person even if u don't do those things all the time.

yeah i feel u, but the OP said \\make sure there is always food'' sounds like what a wife shld worry about cos they live together.

this is when the relationship has moved a step higher, like u guys are committed and have decided to get married,  cos there are 1001 cases of good girls who do all this things just to show they are decent, loyal and respectful and they get dumped at the end of the day, while the man goes for another woman that have never seen the inside of his kitchen.

Yes, that reminds me of the verse in the Holy Bible that says, "Because the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent shall take it by force,"

Uju,you are wonderful. All your points make a real sense.
Re: Your Duty As Someone's Boyfriend Or Girlfriend? by deezah(f): 1:53pm On Sep 17, 2009
Uju, nice points raised there. I dont see anything wrong in expecting a GF or BF to do all or most of these things.

Also, I dont understand why people tend to bring up big differences between a re;ationship and being married. Why cant you do stuff for your boyfriend that you want to preserve for your husband alone? What is wrong in cooking, washing and cleaning for your boyfriend? Why are you in a relationship if you cant commit to it, but rather wait until you get married? Both instances require some level of comitment , u know, and I really dont see what the big deal is whether you're just in a rltnship with or married to some guy. As long as u're willing to commit to your marriage, u shud also be willing to commit to your relationship, whether it is headed towards marriage or not.

Also, I agree that Michelin is just a big baby, and yes, probably with a whole lot of broken relationships. Girl, come on!

just do your part as ladies and he will do his part. All these diaspora-influenced Naija ladies running their mouth about all the things they won't do before marriage is funny. What if your bf tells you the same thing--that he won't perform his bf roles before marriage. Will you like it? And those are the same ladies who will be the first to complain about how Naija guys ignore diaspora girls and jet to Naija to find a wifee.

Ooh!  shocked I seriously forgot you had posted about it, though it might have attributed to it, I think Uju said something about it and I just remembered. I just wondering whats up with it. I was puzzled to find a black man at the nail shop only to find he was nigerian.

Hhahah my bf gets pedi's too let me ask him then.

Re: Your Duty As Someone's Boyfriend Or Girlfriend? by otty: 3:50pm On Sep 17, 2009
As one's BF or GF, i dont think the roles are shared,it's a common role, basically we all need someone to share our fears, laughter and dreams with,so if u find urself dating someone, try to be there for him/her at all times even on bed,

I am not surprised you bought whatever her name is points. I mean you already have the looks of a desperado. I guess if you don't act like some housemaid, no guy would even come close to you.

Don't worry. Keep cooking and cleaning and one day someone will notice your abilities. By the way why did your last relationship end? Ehm because his clothes weren't clean enough, you burnt the food or you didn't screw him enough?

Ahahahhah! HERE COMES THE DESPERADOS. You are nothing but hypocrites. All these things wey una dey yarn now, you won't be doing it once you get married because given the status of the men you want to marry, you'll get a housemaid (who according to your points is more or less like a girlfriend to the man). So liars give me some break. You are nothing but GOLD DIGGERS.
