listen, every people do not have the rights to self determination, you can only self determinate if you have the military or political might or you have powerful backers backers, ie UN, US and it's allies, Russia or China. If you do not have these, you are on an expensive wild goose chase. The self determination clause in the UN charter is only there for decoration. Even the US (the so called bastion of democracy) forbids self determination;


Any state that declares succession in the US is a declaration of war.

So many other people have been fighting for secession for decades if not centuries, a few examples are Tibet, Tamils of sri Lanka, Palestine, kurds of Iraq and turkey.
