Some pixs from the training of the Super Falcons before they landed in Abidjan.... Good to see Joy Jegede back in the GWG and being named captain for this WAFU Tournament too. I recall her heroics from the 2010 U-20 side that reached the final and had the likes of Helen Ukaonu, Desire Oparanozie, Ebere Orji, Rebecca Kalu and more...

Not yet confirmed but it seems she has signed up for a club in Europe... Alaba Jonathan...

But I still wonder why experience Goalie like Tochukwu Oluehi was excluded from the squad..

SWEDISH CUP: Chikwelu hits hat-trick, Temwa nets brace
By JWsports1 - February 12, 2018

Rita Chikwelu
Rita Chikwelu, Temwa Chawinga and Ogonna Chukwudi were all on target as the group stage of the Svenska Cupen kicked off on Saturday.

Rita Chikwelu scored a hat-trick as Kristianstad thrashed Qviding 7–0 to kick off 2018 on a high.

An Amanda Edgren brace and a goal apiece by Becky Edwards, Ogonna Chukwudi and Chikwelu fired Kristianstad to a 5–0 lead by the break.

Chikwelu then scored her second two minutes after the interval before completing her hat-trick seven minutes to time.

Elsewhere, Temwa Chawinga scored on either side of the break to lift Kvarnsveden to a 4–2 win over Älvsjö Aik.

Faith Ikidi’s Pitea had a winning start as well, clinching a 2–0 win away at KIF Örebro.

Ikidi, a constant starter for Pitea, did not feature in the match though, as she is still nursing her arm, which broke a fortnight ago in training.

The veteran center back is expected to be back at the start of the new Swedish league season in April.

Okobi starts

Eskilstuna United new signing Ngozi Okobi played the whole match in a 2–1 win over Uppsala.

Beata Olsson handed Uppsala a shocking lead in the second minute, which they carried to the break.

However, Loreta Kullashi, right from downing South Africa in an international friendly, scored twice to overturn the scoreline.

Okobi has just joined Eskilstuna United from Vittsjo, who were not as lucky as they fell 3–0 to Rosengard.

Osinachi Ohale featured the whole match for Vittsjo in the match that saw Danish midfielder Sanne Troelsgaard-Nielsen net a hat-trick.

Svenska Cupen Group Stage – Round 1 Roundup

Linköping 3–0 LBO7

Lidköping 0–6 Göteborg

Rosengård 3–0 Vittsjö

Qviding 0–7 Kristianstad

Eskilstuna United 2–1 Uppsala

oh ok thanks. ljeoma Obi, Blessing Edoho, and Glory lroka are notable exclusions, l feel ljeoma especially has been so unlucky.
Evelyn Nwabuoku may no longer be the Evelyn we knew in 2014/2015 when she signed up for a french team, also injury has been a big challenge to her. Cecilia Nku goes on and off.
l haven't seen or read much on Gladys Akpa since 2014.

I can't fathom how Bala kept his job while Dedevbo got fired. But I would like the NFF to give our former Super Falcons more shots at coaching jobs. We should not have casted away Florence Omagbemi, she proved herself worthy and at the least she should be understuding our current coach. Most countries have female coaches for their female teams and the NFF should be working towards that.

Joy Jegede is a good Defender.. I have always tip her to be the replacement for the ageing Onome Ebi who will be 35yrs this year.
Joy Jegede is strong,, good in the air, her delivery from the back are top notch, she is a good tackler, a dead ball specialist.. Still among the top 2 center Back Nigeria Woman Premier League can Boost of

My Top 5 Stars to watch from Nigeria's Home based Super Falcons at the Wafu women's cup are:

- Rasheedat Ajibade: Joint top scorer in the recently concluded Fifa U-20 WWC qualifiers Africa Zone with 10 goals and she also finished as the top assists maker with close to 6 or 7 assists. An all-round forward blessed with brilliant skills, pace, technique, and an eye for a killer final pass. She will be key for Nigeria at this wafu.

- Osarenoma Igbinovia: This all action Bayelsa Queens midfielder is another to watch. Definitely one of the best in the NWFL and is expected to start at the WAFU tournament. Was a member of the 2016 CAF AWCON winning Falcons side.
She will be Assistant skipper for this tournament.

- Joy Jegede: A strong centre back. Combines power with good marking and tackling skills. She is not the fastest of CBs but certainly one who can stay on a prey for as long as the match is on. Uses her positional sense to make up for not having almost same super pace as the attackers she takes on. She's come a long way from the 2010 FIFA U-20 WWC.
She will be skipper for this tournament.

- Chioma Wogu: The Combination of raw power and good center of gravity provides Chioma Wogu with an ability to stay strong on her feet when on the ball. She is a strong hitter/shooter of the ball and loves to use her power and decent technical skills to exploit the opposition defences. She was a member of the 2016 Main Super Falcons team that conquered in Cameroun and the Rivers Angels forward is expected to bring her experience to bear on this tournament.

- Amarachi Okoronkwo: She has come a long way in her evolution from a striker/forward at the 2008 FIFA U-17 WWC, where she starred in the no.10 jersey alongside a certain no.14 shirted Adekwagh soo (scorer of the fastest goal in Women's football in FIFA competitions), to this current time as a midfielder blessed with a all action attributes and technique. She still has an eye for goals since she started off as striker/forward back in 2008.
That 2008 Fifa U-17 tournament also had the likes of Martina Ohadugha, Oparanozie, Ebere Orji, Amenze Aighewi, Helen Ukaonu and Ngozi Okobi just to mention a few.

Amarachi Okoronkwo was also a member of the Gold-winning Super Falcons side of 2010 under Uche Eucharia at the CAF AWCON in South Africa and the Nassarawa Amazons is expected to bring her battling spirit and experience to the fore.

Notable Mentions: Peace Efih, Kemi Famiduti, Mary Ologbosere, Anam Imo, Aminat Yakubu, Lilian Tule, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Onyinye Okeke, Rita Akarekor (was third choice at 2016 AWCON).

Super Falcons To Face Mali As Benin Withdraw From WAFU Women’s Cup
By Adeboye Amosu

Nigeria’s Super Falcons look set to face Mali in their opening fixture at the inaugural edition of the WAFU Women’s Cup following Benin’s withdrawal from the competition, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Benin were scheduled to face the Super Falcons in their opening Group B fixture at the Robert Champroux Stadium, Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday.
The competition kicks off on Wednesday (today) in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
The Benin Football Federation (FBF) according to a report in jwsports1.com have officially withdrawn the team just hours to the start competition, stating that the team is not ready to take part in the tourney.

The players have expressed shock on the decision of the federation having put a lot of hardwork in training.
“It is really discouraging that we are not going to participate in the competition,” forward Colombe Ahizike told jwsports1.com.
“Three training sessions a day and at the last minute, we are told that we are not going to travel.”
Vice-captain Nadège Atanhloueto echoed Ahizikè’s sentiments.
“In 2006, it was the same story, 2007 the same, 2012 and 2015 the same, and 2018 again.”
President of the Benin Football Federation, Anjorin Moucharafou, however defended the decision of the body.
“The women’s national team is not yet competitive,” he stated.
“I understand their bitterness, that’s right. But you know, when you run a state business, you do not put sentiment.
“I want to impose the Benin label in football and so I have talked to the girls and told them that an appointment is made for next time.”

And Rasheedat Ajibade has began stamping her authority at the WAFU... hehehehehe... she is easily one to watch out for for our Home based Super Falcons side at this WAFU. cheesy More from the magical no.8 plssss... grin

Meanwhile, thanks Sirs Daejoyoung and Isan for bringing us updates from the Wafu... really appreciate. wink

Ghana lost to CIV... now that is kinda shocking. undecided Senegal going haywire against Togo... wow! Well ofcos Togo are not a force but Senegal are physical and will give our girls a good game.

I expect our girls to just grow into the tournament and coast to the title but CIV and Senegal with Ghana ofcos will be the hurdles.

More Wafu Women's cup action will come your way with time.... wink

Coach Nikyu Confident As Flamingoes Fly To Cameroon For U-17 WWC Clash
By Johnny Edward

Nigeria’s U-17 women national team, the Flamingoes, will depart the shores of the country on Friday aboard Asky Airlines from Abuja to Yaounde for the second leg clash of the 2018 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifying fixture against their Cameroonian counterparts a media statement from the Nigerian Football Federation has revealed.

Both teams played out a 2-2 draw in the the first leg at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City a fortnight ago.
Bala Nikyu who coached the team at the two last editions of the FIFA World Cup, however remains confident that his girls will beat Cameroon to qualify for the sixth edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The tournament takes place from 13 November to 1 December 2018.

“The Cameroonian girls were too physical for my girls in the first leg but we have devised means to beat them in the Yaounde on Sunday,” Nikyu told CSN.

“We have trained well and we pray for luck as well in the game.”
Nigeria have never failed to qualify for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.

The Flamingos were part of the inaugural party in New Zealand in 2008, and also featured at the 2010 (Trinidad and Tobago), 2012 (Azerbaijan), 2014 (Costa Rica) and 2016 (Jordan) editions.
