Charles or Lucien, whether one and the same or not are both demons I think. And I also believe Lleigh is referring to dogs as the beasts Linda has unwittingly attached herself to.

However, 1 thing I do know is that, though God has given a lot of power to Lucifer, that power does not include seeing into our minds. Only God has that power. Only Him can really discern our thoughts even before we think it. So I believe Charles is merely reading Linda's thoughts through her facial expressions.
