You're spot on, only a lady/girl who hasn't been involved in an intercourse (sexual) is a virgin regardless of the presence of hymen or not.

Well that's from one perspective, it can also br used as a form of control by desperate older persons on the younger ones. The pain is the major need here. It's close to female circumcision.

No it cannot be put together. Abstaining from sex for long periods of time does not "heal the hymen". You can have the hymen repaired medically.
