Hello guys,

I'm applying for MEng at the University of Victoria for 2018 Winter. I've gotten to the submission stage and I'm required to pay $147 application fee.

Please I'll like to know the equivalent in Naira. Also can I pay with my Naira Debit MasterCard?

For the Engineers here, do I need to get a supervisor for a course based program? I'm applying for MEng which is a course based program, do I still need to get a supervisor?
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by kalohenic: 10:34pm On Jun 02, 2017
You don't need to contact a supervisor for a course based Masters.

Hello All,
Reading through this thread, I will like to make the following comments.
1. You can get admission and study visas with the following credentials; (3rd class, second class up or lower, masters degree) to any graduate program as long as you meet the school requirements and its in the same or similar fields of study.

2. Canadians aren`t overly excited about credentials, they value work experience much more.

3. If your primary goal is to immigrate and you don`t have enough money for a masters degree, then by all means go for grad certificate or diploma at any college.

4. Remember 1 year program = 1 year work permit, 2 years = 3 years work permit.

5. If you are in a relationship, I strongly suggest you go get married and have your marriage certificate before you leave for school. Your spouse can join you on an open work permit which will be valid for the same duration as your study permit.

Hope someone finds these comments useful, these and more are contained in a free mobile app I found online called Canadian Visa Guide.

Thanks for the information.. Can I send you a pm cos I also got admission with conestoga College..

@ Folaroyal, @ Osemigho, @ MichV, Everyone, please if a professor is willing to be one's supervisor at University of Saskatchewan but says outrightly that she has no funding and asks one to seek funds from other resources, does this mean one can still risk the application hoping to get funds externally?

Please can you suggest a way around this? Lecturers in this proposed research interest area (Pharmacy or Health ICT) are extremely rare. Only two found so far.

No personal funds. Should I let go or seize the opportunity regardless?
I just got full funding from the University of Saskatchewan. Public Policy, Masters Program.

It will not, as long you can prove your situation has changed (better) you are good to go. When asked, do not lie about it on your application form, they have records.
thanks I appreciate. pls also will like to know if the letter of delay of visa is general or personal to each applicant

[b]I have just been offered admission to the University of Saskatchewan with full funding covering tuition, room and board and other incidental expenses. Researched based Masters Thesis Program in Public Policy. Only 8 students are accepted and 3-5 of them given full scholarships. Looks like there is currently an 18 weeks waiting period for a study permit in Nigeria. Given I was granted this award only a few days ago, this puts me out of scope of applying for a visa in Nigeria and meeting the September 1st resumption date. I looked up some African countries and processing times. The processing time for a student permit in Cameroun is only 3weeks. My question is, will it better to go to Cameroun and apply for my study permit there, than Nigeria because of the backlog here? Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

Every school has different policy. You have to read the different policies governing awards peculiar to each department or program at a Canadian institution you are interested. At where I was accepted, they give out only full scholarships to research based thesis program. Even if you are doing research and opting for the course based program, rather than thesis, you get no funding. Even among the Research. Thesis based accepted students, 8 in number, only 3-5 get full scholarships. I was lucky to be one of them. If you take your time and research the different program and what's offered and know how to dovetail your application to give them what they are looking for, you too can land something. Best of luck.

Hello boss,

It will be best you apply for your permit in Nigeria and now is the best time. The processing time is just an average time.

Moreover, applying from cameroun will need you to have a legal status there. Are you currently a legal resident of cameroun?

Moreover, people have thought about that too, that is why cic page specify that one should apply from country where one is a legal resident.

Just my advice though. Others might have a better suggestion to give.

Hello,
I don't think you need to do any thing, you've probably accounted for all your years from primary school to date which is their greatest concern, you did work with your ex employer for X number of years until recently hence your ex employer should tell them same.

Thanks and I sincerely hope the VO reasons along this line

Hey Chairman, where does it say that country you apply to, you have to be a permanent residence? Applying now in Nigeria says 18 weeks processing time, which will put me in October, way beyond when I am required to report to school. If you can get a visa to the U.S. and apply for a Canadian visa there as suggested on this forum by someone, why can't I get a Cameroonian visa and apply for a Canadian visa there where it takes only three weeks?

you can only apply for Cameroun if u are a citizen or legally reside there. secondly processing time for Nigeria is not 18 weeks but 14 weeks and the fact that processing time is 14 weeks doesn't mean ur application must stay that long. get ur documents and apply here in naija or if u are a citizen of Cameroun or ligally reside there go there and apply there

the processing time for Nigeria is 14 weeks (last updated 22nd May, 2017). when is the one u are seeing(18 weeks) last updated? secondly don't be too bothered about the processing time, just package ur application well and try to do upfront medical and pray, u might be lucky to get it done b4 August

Boss, are you a citizen of cameroun or a legal resident there? It is not about permanent residency, i am talking about legal residency like study, work.
Moreover,if it works the way you are thinking now, how many people will still be applying to accra?

I still say this, apply in Nigeria, there is more things to worry about other than processing times.

However, you can go ahead with your plan. Keep us updated when it works.
