Below are our work in progress of the building using the special design parapet, can you tell us how the design of the parapet look on this building.

I love this alternative building concept. But if I may ask, what is the guarantee on durability of this method? Remember the binding wire can rust and might (I think) loose it's tensile strength with time.
Please also what's the cost saving achieved when compared to precast.

Hw much wil it cost me to fix a parapet in a 3bedroom and self contain house?

Sir, The cost is relative to the dimension (linear Meter) required to complete the apartment. Buildings are bigger than each other and the recess on buildings also determine the linear meter required.

Sir,
Thanks for the interest in the product. on the issue of the binding wire getting rusted with time is true that is why we do advice our clients that if they want to have a roof beam on the building. it should be installed first then casted with throof beam which makes it more stronger and wouldn't collapse with time.

Price Calculation comparison between Concrete Parapet and Polystyrene Parapet.

Due to popular demand we are making price comparison between the concrete (in-suite) and polystyrene parapet. the calculation will be a detailed one which can be used for virtual all form of parapet.
we will be using the attached drawing for this calculation.

The Total Linear Meter = 57 L/M

1) Concrete (cast in-suite) Parapet.

The below are the Materials needed for this drawing.

A) Cement Needed

area vol L/m m3 ratio bags
parapet 0.08 50.35 4.07 4.5 18
beam 0.05 50.35 2.55 4.5 11
Plastering of parapet 10 approx

This is a 600 x 450 mm and 600 x 600 mm Polystyrene parapet design. when compared together in weight on the building. we will see that there is much difference which also relates to cost.

Re: Alternative Building Material (expanded Polystyrene) by saydfact(m): 9:50am On Apr 10, 2018
so I got some free Polystyrene from Teewhy2 and decided to put them to good use on one of my sites, there were 2 different thickness 5cm and 3cm

see pics below.

STEP 1 - I cut the 5cm and 3cm to shape as required

Re: Alternative Building Material (expanded Polystyrene) by saydfact(m): 9:55am On Apr 10, 2018
STEP 2 - I made a small indent for 12mm rebars to strengthen over the opening - so it can carry human weight shd there be need to stand or sit on it.

The alignment of the rebar depended on the opening below it...

Re: Alternative Building Material (expanded Polystyrene) by saydfact(m): 9:56am On Apr 10, 2018
STEP 3 - I added cement / plaster sand mortar to the manhole top so the polystyrene can bound with it (like plastering mix)

Re: Alternative Building Material (expanded Polystyrene) by saydfact(m): 9:57am On Apr 10, 2018
STEP 4 - I added similar mortar between the polystyrene so they can equally bond together with the rebar in-between

Re: Alternative Building Material (expanded Polystyrene) by saydfact(m): 9:58am On Apr 10, 2018
STEP 5 - I joined both polystyrene and ready to finish it.

Note: The 5cm was placed beneath and the 3cm thick poly used to cover it.
