I dislike this Nnamdi Kanu guy but I am of support his stance on population decrease not just in the south east but beyond. A rising population is really a serious problem that a lot of us don't seem to pay attention to. The issue of unemployment and mass poverty we have today has part of its roots in overpopulation. People need to give birth to what can be cared for and not pumping out too many human beings that the planet doesn't even need.

I understand that Europe is one of the most densely populated regions on Earth, but there doesn't seem to be very much concern over the population size there. Also, if such a policy is beneficial, why haven't other countries with dense populations followed suit, such as India and Bangladesh?

When the population is higher than the resources available then the social and economic sustainability of the country is threatened. Note that land space is finite and we can't do what the Europeans did in the 16th centuries and beyond; exploring and conquering "new worlds" like America and Australia. Except we by any stroke of luck discover a habitable planet in space.

List the advantages please let's take the debate from there. Only a few corporate organisations and individuals benefit from the high population by making more money from a bigger customer base. China has a good economy but the standard of living there is very poor for millions of Chinese because their population is so large.

Population size and population density are different things. A country can have a high population density and still not overpopulated. Population density is only the number of people occupying a certain area of land, while overpopulation is when the available resources can not sustain the available population. Europe currently has the capacity to carry it's population along well enough so they are not yet overpopulated.

Its not about having a population of 1.5 billion. The question is, what is the quality of life in China? Go to China and see for yourself that the quality of life for millions of Chinese is still very poor even when they have the second largest economy in the world. That is an effect of overpopulation.

There is a relationship between number of kids a couple have and their level of wealth/poverty
