Nigerian comedian Ali Baba who is considered as the founding father of the Nigerian comedy is set to celebrate his 30 years in the entertainment industry in grand style.

In a post on his instagram page has hinted that he will be given out the sum of 30 million to 30 people who are under 30 years to develop their business on his 30th anniversary.

“In the days to come... As i kick off the celebration of 30 years on stage as a comedian, I will be revealing how 30 Nigerians below the age of 30 will benefit from my N30m intervention revolving loan. You need to begin to structure your business now before September 30. What kind of business are you into? Can your business give me back my N1m if I give it to you without interest in 1 year?” he wrote.

Ali Baba is surely making it a 30 thing. Ali Baba will be using this to give back to the society, using this cause to help develop the spirit of entrepreneurship among youths and give them a chance.

Nigerian Nollywood actress Ini Edo who hails from Eket in Akwa Ibom state seems to no longer care about acting. According to reports the actress has been rejecting movie roles she was called to do.

Ini Edo last featured in a movie she and Uche Jumbo co-produced last year and since then she is no way near the screens.

She has been using the excuse of having another project she is working on to reject movie roles, and one of the movies she rejected ended up making close to about N0.5billion.

From a source it is reported that she is now into a very wealthy guy that can take very good care of her and as such she does not need the movie of acting to live her flamboyant life.

“You see this lady called Ini Edo is wealthier than Genevieve Nnaji, Mercy Johnson and Chika Ike combined. The man she is now dating is the boss of my friend; this man is swimming in money, so there is nothing Ini Edo will gain by running around production set like her colleagues. She got married to Philip Ehiagwina in 2008 but the marriage collapsed in 2014 as the tradition of Nollywood that marriages cannot stand, very few marriages of Nollywood stars have lasted so far.

Ini Edo was appointed as The Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on Culture and Tourism by Udom Gabriel Emmanuel in 2016 and is currently holding the office till date.

The crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has worsened following allegation by a member of the National Working Committee (NWC) that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu asked them to resign as a way of finding a lasting solution to the intractable crisis rocking the party.

This followed on Thursday a scathing letter written by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, chairman of the party’s reconciliation committee, to Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, national chairman, accusing him of sabotaging his efforts in reconciling aggrieved members of the party.

The former Lagos State governor, whose relationship with Odigie-Oyegun has been on the downward trend since the conduct of the Ondo State governorship primary of the party in 2016, said rather than providing him the necessary support needed in his assignment, the party’s national chairman is undermining his presidential mandate by constituting himself as an obstacle towards the reconciliation process.

He specifically mentioned Kogi, Kaduna, Kano, and Adamawa as the key states where Odigie-Oyegun is working to frustrate his efforts in reconciling aggrieved members of the party.

Tinubu, who copied the letter to the president, vice-president, Senate president and speaker of the House of Representatives, accused Odigie-Oyegun of contravening the spirit of the discussions both of them had at the party secretariat when President Muhammadu Buhari gave him the assignment of reconciling aggrieved members.

In the letter, dated February 21, 2018, Tinubu said “disappointment greeted me when I discovered that you had swiftly acted in contravention of the spirit of our discussions. Instead of being a bulwark of support as promised, you positioned yourself in active opposition to the goal of resuscitating the progressive and democratic nature of APC”.

Tinubu said while Odigie-Oyegun mentioned Kogi, Kaduna, Kano and Adamawa as places affected by serious party issues, he has taken it as his own personal ambition to thwart his presidential assignment in these key states.

He accused the chairman of rushing to Kogi State to unilaterally inaugurate officials “parallel to the officials already heading the state chapter of the party”.

“While this may place you in significant affinity with those parallel officials you handpicked, this machination suggests no improvement in the welfare of the party in Kogi or at the national level”.

Tinubu said Odigie-Oyegun apparently seeks “to undermine my mandate by engaging in dilatory tactics for the most part. When forced to act, you do so in an arbitrary and capricious manner”.

Speaking further, Tinubu said even if Odigie-Oyegun had personal qualms with him, it is his right as a human being but “you have no such right as the chairman of this party. The party belongs to all of its members”.

While not turning down the assignment, he, however, warned Odigie-Oyegun to refrain from taking any more “improper unilateral decisions with regard to the national and state chapters of the party”.

He reminded Odigie-Oyegun that the assignment was given to him by Buhari, stating that “in furtherance, I request that you make available to me the status reports and all the pertinent information regarding the state chapters without further delay”.

Speaking with DAILY INDEPENDENT on the genesis of the current crisis between the two party stalwarts, a member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) said Tinubu during the closed door meeting he had with them during his visit to the party secretariat had asked them to resign as a way of finding a lasting solution to the intractable crisis rocking the party.

“I am not surprised by the current letter written by Asiwaju Tinubu. During his visit to the party secretariat, he had asked us members of the NWC led by Chief Oyegun to resign but we told him that it is impossible since our tenure will end in June.

“We later understood he wanted to install a Caretaker Committee to be headed by Chief Bisi Akande, thereby having his structures in charge of the party. That I can tell you is the genesis of the crisis”, he said.

Tinubu, it would be recalled, had written Odigie-Oyegun in September 2016 asking him to resign as the party’s national chairman for allegedly derailing from the path of the progressives.

He had accused Odigie-Oyegun of sabotaging the will of democracy in Ondo State by overriding the decision of the appeal panel that asked for a fresh governorship primary following investigations that showed that the delegates’ list used was tampered with.

Tinubu in the communiqué said that Odigie-Oyegun’s action in allegedly subverting the will of the people, was not of his doing, saying that for a man of the age of the national chairman to have done what he did that he must have been under the influence of a “powerful and sinister arm at work.

“Evidently, some errant members believe promises and vows are mere words to be easily spoken and more easily broken.

“Chairman John Oyegun has breached these good pledges in a most overt and brazen display,” Tinubu said. “In doing so, Odigie-Oyegun has dealt a heavy blow to the very party he professes to lead. It is an awful parent who suffocates his own child for the sake of a few naira.”

However in his response, Odigie-Oyegun said as the party’s national chairman, he cannot be sacked on the pages of newspapers.

DAILY INDEPENDENT in a report three weeks ago titled ‘Tinubu Faces Hurdles To Reconcile Aggrieved APC Members’ had said as someone who is deeply involved in some of events that are causing crisis in the party, it remains to be seen how Tinubu as head of the reconciliation panel will initiate the peace moves between him and some key leaders of the party which include President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President Bukola Saraki and Chief John Odigie- Oyegun.

According to inside sources in the APC, the biggest conflict in the ruling party is between Tinubu and Saraki. Both men have been at loggerheads since June 2015 when Saraki against all odds defied the directives of the party and connived with senators from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to become the Senate president.

His action was seen by many as a direct affront to Tinubu who wanted to install Senator Ahmad Lawan as the number three man. Since his emergence, Saraki has been going in and out of the courts on allegation of corruption which many of his supporters believe Tinubu is responsible for. Both men hardly see eye-to-eye and stakeholders are waiting to see how the reconciliation between the two plays out.

Speaking with DAILY INDEPENDENT, a member of the party’s National Working Committee said the major hurdle before Tinubu is reconciling with Saraki, adding that this will go a long way in fast-tracking the healing process the party seriously craves for.

“To me, the major hurdle before Asiwaju Tinubu is how he will reconcile with Saraki. It is a tough task because given Tinubu’s influence, we are all wondering if he will be humble enough to go to Saraki and seek a truce. It is a herculean task but we believe nothing is impossible”, he said.

Forty-Eight out of the missing ninety-four students from Government Girls Technical College, Dapchi have returned, the Yobe state government said.

The state commissioner of education, Mohammed Lamin, disclosed this on Wednesday.

He said that while 28 of the missing students returned on Tuesday night, 20 more returned on Wednesday morning.

His words, “This has brought down the 94 missing students realised at the yesterday headcount to 48 this morning.

“We are still hopeful that more are returning soon”, he said.

Recall that 94 girls from the Government Girls Science and Tecnical Secondary School in Dapchi, Yobe state were reported missing after Boko Haram attack on Monday February 19th.

The sect members stormed the school in the night, shooting sporadically in the air. The teachers and students, over 700 of them in the boarding school, were said to have escaped before the sect members could get to them.

However, when parents and teachers conducted a headcount yesterday, it was discovered that 94 of the girls were missing.

While the state police command maintained there is no case of abduction, the school authorities and parents say 94 of their girls are missing.

Senator representing Bauchi Central, Isah Misau, on Tuesday accused the Nigerian Army of playing politics with security issues in the country.

Misau spoke while contributing to the debate sponsored by Tijjani Kaura, Senator representing Zamfara North on the recent killings in Zurmi area of the state.

The lawmaker wondered why Boko Haram insurgents carry out attacks after the Army claimed to have defeated them.

He said, “Mr President we cannot mix politics with security. What the army is doing is politics. You will come out to say you have defeated Boko Haram and the next day Boko Haram will go and kill people to prove a point.

“Even the army coming to say they have Boko Haram is a risk to lives of the people. They should stop coming out to tell that they have defeated Boko Haram. It is not necessary. If Boko Haram is defeated, we will know.”

Misau also lamented inadequate security personnel and poor equipping of the military.

“The place the incident happened (Zamfara), if you take the statistics, you won’t find up to 100 security men there.

“Even if there were 100 security men, you will find out that they are not armed. We have to be practical, do we have the manpower? The resources? If we don’t have it, we will continue to talk here, we will keep observing one-minute silence.

“The army is becoming demoralised, they (soldiers) have an ambition to reach a certain rank but they are blocked. If we allow the morale of our soldiers to go down, we will face a lot of problems. We must do the right thing,” he said.

Parents and school authorities have revealed that at least 94 school girls from Government Girls Science and Technical Secondary School at Dapchi town in Bursari local government area of Yobe state are missing after an all-girls school was attacked by Islamist militant group, Boko Haram.

The militants invaded the town on Monday and targeted the all-girls school after arriving the town around 7 pm with over 18 gun trucks.

A community source told Saharareporters that at least four bodies of students were recovered from the bush in the nearby town of Kusur.

Although the raid happened on Monday, the school authorities and parents waited to do a head count of the students to be sure of the exact situation.

According to residents of the community, Boko Haram terrorists came into Dapchi town with trucks mounted with high caliber weapons shooting sporadically and later headed to the girls’ hostels at the school where some 740 girls were resident.

The sound from the sect’s militants explosives and gunshots alerted the students and their teachers who immediately scampered into nearby bushes for safety.

However, after the headcount on Tuesday, it was discovered that at least 94 of the girls were still missing. The school was immediately closed down while education authorities and security forces in the state began efforts to locate the missing students.

Residents and civilian militia groups in Dapchi say they believe Boko Haram had carefully planned to kidnap schoolgirls in their town over some time.

A week before the attack soldiers protecting the town were moved elsewhere leaving the town vulnerable. Nigerian security forces backed by military jets later arrived Dapchi and “chased away” the terrorists who had continued on a looting spree.

Nigerian military sources are unusually silent about latest claims by parents that the girls might have been abducted after Monday night raid.

A military source last night told Saharareporters that they could not confirm or deny if the missing girls were abducted.

In April 2014, Boko Haram kidnapped more than 270 girls from a school in the northeastern town of Chibok in Borno state sparking global outrage that birthed the #BringBackOurGirls campaign.

In September 2017, some 100 Chibok girls were reunited with their families after the Nigerian government shelled out over €2 million in ransom payments to Boko Haram terrorists.

The deal also included a controversial prisoner swap deal with the Nigerian government that saw five Boko Haram top commanders released.

More than 100 schoolgirls remain in the custody of Boko Haram terrorists who are believed to be using them to negotiate for more cash and release of top terrorist commanders in the custody of Nigerian authorities.

Nigerian popular Yoruba actor Ayanfe Adekunle who was involved in a disastrous accident some weeks ago has made it out of the hospital on a good and better health.

The actor whose Honda element SUV was severely destroyed after the crash made it out alive and was hospitalized after he sustained several injuries.

Ayanfe is also a comedian based in Ibadan recently undergone training in movie directing and cinematography in South Africa.

Prior to the live video he shared on instagram, he wrote

Nigerian veteran singer Kas who introduced D’banj and Don Jazzy to JJC has just labeled daddy freeze as a confuse preacher.

Kas was popular for releasing ‘Fi mi le’ before answering the call of preaching, he has a church in London called praise God ministry.

Speaking in an interview today, Monitor by Nigeriafilms.com, the singer was asked why he still performs in clubs and also preach in church during service time he said; “singing is my work while preaching is my calling.”

He was asked how he views daddy freeze as he combines his work and preaching, Kas replied “as for daddy freeze he is confused.”

Kas also said he is really back to stay as Nigerians should be expecting more music and videos from him after his concert.

The crisis in the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kaduna state got messier Sunday as the Restoration faction of the party led by Senator Hunkuyi announced the suspension of the state governor, Nasir El Rufai for six months for his failure to respond to a query issued to him last week Thursday.

El Rufai’s suspension is coming two days after the main faction of the party announced the suspension of Senator Hunkuyi for six months and expelled 28 others.

But addressing a press conference in Kaduna Sunday, the factional chairman of the party, Alhaji Danladi Wada said the failure of El Rufai to respond to the query issued him necessitated the latest action.

“This briefing is sequel to 48 hours ultimatum/query and warning issued to the state governor to explain and defence himself against the allegations levelled against him which he failed to respond.

“The State Working Committee on Saturday 17, February 2018, convened and resolved to consider and to rectify the findings and recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee and the Fact Finding Committee put before it in accordance with the provision of article 21(B) section 3 of the APC constitution and accordingly, the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai stands suspended for 6 months from the APC, commencing from 17, February, 2018.”

The group noted that the Presidential Reconciliation Committee led by National leader of the party, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, may hit the rock if El-Rufai refused to admit his faults.

A member of the Restoration faction, Mataimaki Tom-Maiyashi noted the Governor’s body language and action didn’t suggest the willingness to submit to genuine reconciliation.

He said other parties may benefit from the crisis in the party if the APC fails to put its house in order.

:”The Stakeholders welcome the initiatives to settle major issues which a are dividing and weakening the party.

“The real reconciliation will only be achieve if justice and the willingness to take difficult decisions are upheld.

“Stakeholders observed that in Kaduna State at least, the postures and actions if the governor, Nasir el-Rufai, and his associates do not suggest the willingness to submit to genuine reconciliation.

“All suspensions by persons other than those led by the acting chairman of the party, Alhaji Danladi Wada are exercises in futility, null and void.

“The acting chairman should exercise his full powers and conclude disciplinary actions against all members, no matter their positions in the party.”

Ex-president, Olusegun Obasanjo has threatened to commit suicide the day he finds out Nigeria has lost hope. He said that his positive belief in Nigeria is the reason why he never remains silent when things go wrong in the country.

Speaking to students of the Ijaw National Academy(INA) Kaiama at the school auditorium in Bayelsa, OBJ said;

“If Nigeria does not have hope I would find a rope and commit suicide immediately because then what am I living for? I am an incurable optimist in Nigeria. Nigeria has hope. There are many things we should have done as we should have done them.

There is no doubt about that. But that does not mean Nigeria does not have hope. Look, hope is what drives any human being. A person without hope is like a person without life.

How can I, therefore, say that Nigeria has no hope? Nigeria has hope and you are part of the hope of Nigeria. You asking me that question heightens my conviction that Nigeria has hope. This country in spite of our difficulties, we have hope.

I just came back from Rome and while there I asked the Ambassador what are his major problems and he told me that there are 1600 Nigerians in Italian prisons, that is a problem but we shouldn’t because of that say that there is no hope for Nigeria. No, I won’t say that.

I would say that we have a problem that we have to address and if we don’t address that problem we are postponing the evil day. That doesn’t mean that Nigeria has no hope. Never lose hope. If you lose hope you lose everything. Great hope because of you and great hope because I would not keep my mouth shut when I see things or anything wrong in Nigeria”.

Nigerian senator Ben Bruce who is known to be very outspoken when necessary has spoken on the ongoing TV reality show (BBNAIJA).

The common sense advocate is a senator representing Bayelsa east in the national assembly. He is originally known as Ben Murray-Bruce. Speaking to the youth the senator urges them to go get their PVC as it is the way forward and not BBNAIJA. He also disclosed that since the resumption of the APC government that over a million people have lost their jobs majority been youths.

Nobel laureate and activist, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has said President Muhammadu Buhari is in a trance.

Soyinka said this while reacting to a question on the three things he would tell the President if he meets him in an interview with Punch.

He said, ” I will say Mr. President you are in a trance.

“The sooner the President got out of the trance, the better for the nation.

Asked on the form of trance the President was in, the Nobel laureate said, “I don’t know. So many unforced errors. Take for instance the suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf, reinstated by the President.

The Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Mathew Kukah, on Monday, decried the rising trend of human trafficking in Nigeria.

Kukah spoke at the end of road walk organised by Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), in Sokoto.

According to the clergyman, campaign against human trafficking was a collective responsibility that should involve all religions and tribes.

He said it affected the general belief of every society.

“We need to come back to our senses as individuals in order to achieve better and develop a country of our dream.

“This is a campaign that the Mosques and Churches need to work together to successfully achieve our desired goal of becoming human traffic free society.

“We thank the Federal Government for setting up NAPTIP and embarking on a massive awareness to address the situation in the country.

“But we need to do more, individually and collectively, to ensure a better future for our generation leaders,” Kukah said.

He appealed to young Nigerians to engage in better ways of living and always avoid any action that could affect future development of Nigeria.

“God has a plan for ever one of us as no one has come to this world by accident.

“Therefore, we should always believe that despite the difficulties and trial, God always has a plan for us,” he said.

The Bishop commended NAPTIP for ensuring that no human life was violated and prayed for the leaders to succeed in the task of governing the country.

Suspected Fulani herdsmen have beheaded an elderly farmer identified as Mustapha, alias Bebe Jeje, in his farm at Iseyin, Oyo State.

Disclosing this, President-General of Agbekoyas Worldwide, Kamoru Okiki Aremu, said the herdsmen, who struck over the weekend, also injured the farmer’s son who was with him on the farm.

Speaking with Vanguard, Aremu said the herdsmen also destroyed crops in the farm.

Aremu urged the federal government and the state Governor, Abiola Ajimobi to immediately arrest and prosecute the culprits.

He said failure to arrest the culprits, family of the deceased would declare war on herdsmen all over Oyo State.

Aremu said, ”We are grieving. These herdsmen went to Baba Jeje’s farm, beheaded him and also injured his son who was with him.

”We have had enough of these herdsmen; we are Agbekoyas and we don’t look for trouble. But for this that had just happened, we have sent all our members to comb the bushes for any herdsmen and deal decisively with them.

”If the federal government and Governor Ajimobi fail to bring these people to justice, we are going to handle them in our own way. We are not afraid of anybody.”

The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has ordered herdsmen, under the aegis of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, to expose criminals amongst them.

The monarch said this while regretting that Fulani herdsmen were being generally painted as criminals, which he maintained they were not.

He advised Nigerians to avoid ethnic profiling, maintaining that not all herdsmen were criminals.

He said “Nigerians should avoid ethnic profiling whenever a crime was committed, criminals have no tribal marks.

“MACBAN should liaise with the governors of Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa and Kano states who have indicated interest to allocate grazing reserves, with a view to developing them.”

The ex governor stated this in a statement on Sunday in Minna, during a national executive council meeting of MACBAN.

The meeting was also attended by the Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo Musdafa, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, Dr. Aliyu Tilde and other stakeholders.

In his remarks, the Zonal Chairman of the National Executive Committee, MACBAN, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, noted that, “conflict between herdsmen and farmers has a long history; the solution has been to engage all stakeholders to find an amicable solution to the conflict.”

He hailed the approaches of governors Willie Obiano and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Anambra and Enugu states respectively, towards ending the farmers/herdsmen crisis.

“We commend Obiano and Ugwuanyi who have been able to effectively stem the recurring clashes between farmers and herders at a time their other peers and the Federal Government are at a loss on how to handle the clashes,” he said.

The management of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, is yet to come to terms with an explanation by an official in the Makurdi, Benue office of the Board that proceeds from the sale of admission scratch cards in the state, totaling N36million have been swallowed from the cash vault by a mystery snake that comes in the night.

The mystery snake was said to have sneaked into the account office of the Board in Makurdi, a number of time, and made away with the N36m.

A sales clerk, Philomina Chieshe, told JAMB registrar and his team that she could not account for the N36m she made in previous years before the abolition of scratch cards. In the course of interrogation, Philomena denied the allegations that she stole the money.

She however confessed that it was her housemaid that connived with another JAMB staff, Joan Asen, to “spiritually” steal the money from the vault in the account office.

Philomina, in her confessional statement, said that Joan Asen and her accomplices confessed that they have been stealing the money “spiritually” through a mysterious snake that always sneak into the office to swallow the money from the vault.

According to her “It was a mystery to me too. I have been saving the money in the bank, but I found it difficult to account for it. So I started saving it in a vault in the office. But each time I open the vault, I will find nothing.”

A complainant, Elizabeth David, on Friday poured hot water on the defendant, Viani Okafor, at the door step of courtroom in a Chief Magistrate Court Damaturu, Yobe State.

The incident caused serious burns on Viani’s back.

She was immediately rushed to hospital, while Elizabeth was detained at C Division police station, Damaturu.

The attacker said she got provoked after the case was adjourned for the third time at the instance of the accused.

Daily Trust reports that the first adjournment was on December 28, 2017.

However, the last adjournment, on February 8, 2018 was when the lawyer did not show at the sitting.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Hasjya Abubakar, ordered that the lawyer shall appear at the next sitting or communicate his lack of interest on the case before the next sitting.

Abubakar adjourned the case to February 15, 2018 for next hearing.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Moses Tunjimi told the court that on December 26, 2018 the defendant, Elizabeth David of Malari ward Damaturu, reported to ‘C’ division police station that the accused, Viani Okafor, of New Jerusalem area Damaturu trespassed into her house and defamed her character.

He quoted the accused as saying that the husband of the defendant has not paid for her bride price, therefore, she was a baby factory.

A senior lawyer, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has withdrawn as the lawyer to the alleged mistress to the founder of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleman, Stephanie Otobo.

Keyamo has sought to withdraw as counsel in the sex case between Otobo and Apostle Suleman.

Miss Otobo had alleged that Apostle Johnson Suleman was her secret lover who promised her marriage and later breached the promise.

The saga which broke in March last year saw the man of God firing back and suing Otobo and an online medium, one billion Naira each, at the Ikeja High Court in Lagos, Nigeria.

She had, after almost a year of accusations and counter accusations, shocked Nigerian on Saturday, January 27th, when she went to Apostle Suleman’s church in Auchi during the monthly Fire Night programme (an all night vigil programme) to confess before the mammoth crowd that she was used by “some powerful politicians and men of God” to destroy the character and reputation of Apostle Suleman.

Reacting to her confession in the church, Festus Keyamo’s Chambers had said, “We saw the video online on Saturday morning but we are yet to get any formal statement from Stephanie confirming or debunking the video.

“We are lawyers and we only act on our client’s instructions. So, we don’t have any comment on the matter.

“No comment, we are waiting to hear from our client first before we know the next line of action,”

But Vanguard has now quoted one of Kiyamo’s senior lawyers, Festus Afeiyadion, as saying, based on the videos that, “Stephanie Otobo, has released without informing (Festus Keyamo Chambers), (we)hands-off the case.”

The sect leader in his video, said their new target is anyone that protects the interest of the country.

I have no lengthy message to deliver except on the issue of worshiping God alone and serving Him without getting tired. Ours is not like that of the unbelievers whose worship is like the spider web. Just like one of the leaders of unbelievers, who is like an ape, was recently boasting that they have formed a joint force with Cameroonian forces to fight us, That they would not only chase us from Sambisa forest but also in all parts of Nigeria. So we too have declared that we do not want to see any Nigerian in Cameroon, in Chad, in Nigeria and even in Benin Republic. A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Jumoke Akinjide, has returned N650 million to the Federal Government.

Akinjide informed the court about this development today, when she notified Justice Muslim Sule Hassan of a Federal High Court in Lagos of her plans to reach an out-of-court settlement with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC had preferred a fraud and money laundering charge against her over the campaign money for the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State received from the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

Her lawyer, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), told the court that before the start of trial, the party took the decision to return the fund complained of by the prosecution through his client.

“The entire money from the charge is the sum of N650 million. The funds were campaign money for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state in the 2015 general elections.

“The defendants who were PDP chieftains in Oyo state acting on the collective decision of the party decided to refund the money.

“I had a word with the EFCC’s lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo, and we think it is wise going forward and at this point not to subject this matter to further adjudication and waste the time of the court.

“We decided that counsels on all sides should meet to look at the way forward on this charge, the money complained of having been refunded by the party through Jumoke Akinjide.

“My application is that the court should adjourn for further hearing pending the outcome of our discussion”, the silk said.

Other defence lawyers, Micheal Lana and Akinola Oladeji, were also in support of the plan.

Responding, EFCC’s lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo, said he is not opposed to an adjournment to allow for discussion between parties.

He said: “I confirmed the discussion with the silk this morning. But I want to say that the matter before the court is not principally about campaign funds.

“I also confirmed that the commission had recovered the sum of N650 million, not from the chieftains and principal members of the PDP, but rather from the first defendant (Oloye Jumoke Akinjide).

“Section 270 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 allow parties to discuss. In view of the fact that the silk has applied for an adjournment to allow for discussion, we would not be objecting to his application”.

After listening to the submissions of the two parties in the matter, The Presiding judge, Justice Hassan adjourned further hearing in the matter till February 22.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive that its national leader, Bola Tinubu should reconcile aggrieved party members.

APC said the directive was a welcome development, adding that such task required a great deal of political skills and experience which Tinubu possessed.

Speaking with Independent, spokesperson of APC, Bolaji Abdullahi also expressed gratitude to Tinubu for accepting the role assigned to him by Buhari.

Abudullahi said the experience of Tinubu will help him in carrying out the task effectively.

He said, “Any efforts to reconcile and put the party together is a welcome development because there is a lot of work to be done. It requires someone with experience and political skills to do well in that aspect.

“So, it is a welcome development and we want to commend Mr President for giving that a priority and for finding Asiwaju Tinubu worthy of that assignment.

“We also commend Asiwaju Tinubu for agreeing to accept the role for the betterment of our great party. We believe our party will come out stronger and united after the reconciliation process.”
