Gowon and Danjuma fought to keep Nigeria one because they needed a tribe whose majority are Christians to stay with them in the same country called Nigeria.

Had Igbo and Yoruba (major tribes with a sizeable Christian population) not been in Nigeria, the Hausa/Fulani people would have wiped the northern minorities out of the surface of the earth.
