The term Emir is not solely a title of the Fulani or Hausas rather one shared across Asia/Middle east as borrowed from the arab title. Just like we would often use the word Lord, highness, excellency, royal father, chief, priest etc. They are all not of African or Nigerian traditional words or title.Rather all borrowed terms from outside our culture.

FFK maybe right and maybe wrong. Depending on the context he applies. If he is doing cause of fanaticism them he is not being fair. Whilst if it is meant to preserve the culture of a people and traditional term Oba then he is right.

FFK shouldn't be getting things always mixed up cause of hate for Muslims and Fulani or northerners .The fact as used in the North doesn't mean it wasn't foreign as well. The Fulani as well have local title.Traditional titles they use e.g. Ardo whilst the Hausa also have Sarki.Going around the North you have alot of Titles.

Wikipedia: An emir (/əˈmɪər, eɪˈmɪər, ˈeɪmɪər/; Arabic: أمير‎ ʾamīr [ʔaˈmiːr]), sometimes transliterated amir, amier, or ameer, is an aristocratic or noble and military title of high office used in a variety of places in the Arab countries and Afghanistan. It means "commander", "general", or "prince". The feminine form is emira (أميرة ʾamīrah). When translated as "prince", the word "emirate" is analogous to a sovereign principality.[1]

Pls what is the fuss about the Emir's decision? I call him Emir because he is already one. So anyone who is angry should take whatever title he or she likes.
My take is that history has been made. The Emir of Oluwo changed his title voluntarily without compulsion.Same thing happened with Afonja when he collaborated with the Fulani and carved Ilorin out.So who ever is fighting for Ilorin as a Yoruba land should get set to fight d Oluwo as well. But wait. The Oluwo is a sharp man.He has realized that the Oni of Ife whose office was a mere herbalist has been elevated evn above that of the paramount Yoruba ruler the Alafin of Oyo.The Oni's rascality is only being supported by Yoruba politician to the disdain of the Alafin and Oba of Lagos and the Alake. So anytime u want to mention traditional rulers in Yoruba land remember the Emir of Oluwo. As far as Nigerian politics is concern, the Oluwo is above the Alafin,Alake,Oba of Lagos and Oni.As an Emir he is both traditional and political emperor in Yoruba land.In the next big occasion in Yorubaland, he will be representing the Sultan of Sokoto. But should we worry over his decision? No.No because the Oluwo's decision is not different from that of Tinubu. Both r strengthening South West alignment with the North and there r gains to it such as both ruling Nigerian political space. What if the Oluwo had converted to a pastor with a title like Bishop'

1. To start with and to float above the stupidity, ignorance, stupidity, fabrication and bigoted utterances by cocaine brain FFK and the ipob cockroaches and trolls on NL, the King did not renounce his Obaship title in favor of Emire title and the fact that worthless blogsites are pushing fake news and ignorant consumers are feeding on their rubbish doesn't mean they are pushing facts.

2. The king as a Nigerian is free to manage his seat of power according to his beliefs and sense of unity, either by what he wears or who he appoints, we all have a lot to gain when we reach out.

3. Your short-sighted understanding and acknowledgment of the King's actions is what's dooming humanity today. You, the drug head FFK and his ipob ant soldiers are too close-minded, shallow, intolerant and anti-communal and humanity really can without such divisive thoughts and insane outlook.

I'm not surprised, isn't it Yoruba land at the end of the day? The Northern caliphate already have a foothold in there.

Any traditional ruler in Igbo land who attempts to become an "Emir" will be swiftly dealt with! That person will not only give his thrown, he will leave Igbo land never to return!
Any igbo traditional ruler who attempts such will not survive a day..He will die that same day

Yoruba are just docile slaving cowards

I only pity the weak minded naive Yoruba Christian population. There Muslim Yoruba counterparts value the northerners more than their Christian brothers..Islam has brainwashed

This nonsense can't possibly happen in the east or north...imagine emir decide to convert to oba; that same day I'm people go kill am

Islamisation of yorubaland is on full gear

Igbos we need to wake up; the Muslim have set their sights on the east especially ebonyi state and part of imo...We need to wake up

Islam and all their clerics bring people backward

We need to kick out that evil apc party out of South East

Cant happen in the north?? Its basically same way uthman dan fodio a foreigner sacked the traditional hausa kings and installed his sons and kins as emir all over the north, today fulanis are lords of hausas in their own lands and nigeria at large in the name of islamization. Soon this oluwo would take a fulani bride and her offspring would be the sole heir to the "emirate", with more favors to those with "fulani blood".

Your mouth will land you in trouble soon, continue...Foolish man!
How can you talk ill of a respected institution like that? Can he stand in front of him to say such? why loose common sense because you want to write?
what's the fuss about this name change we all arguing about?
its a tittle(name), it still doesn't change the face that he's the Oba of Iwo. he can call himself any name, doesn't change nothing...
And I pity some gullible people here turning this religious sentiment, the Last Ooni of life and the present Ooni of life went to RCCG church to kneel in front of a pastor, some people attacked them for doing it, some justified it, but the truth is, as at the time it happened, it was a shock to many of us, An OBA is not meant to kneel or bow to anyone again including parents, but that was broken the day it happened.
Ooni of Ife is a tittle, Alaafin of Oyo is a tittle etc still doesn't change the Obaship in their power. If Oluwo of Iwo change to emir, he still doesn't deserve this kind of ill-mannered talk. As Omo Oduduwa, we are taught to be respectful to the elders and custodians of traditional institutions, what fani Kayode has done now is disrespectful....Any Yoruba supporting this lacks cultural upbringing and probably not a true Omoluabi.
Omoluabi don't discriminate on religion wise!

Ask yourself why would the yorubas always enslave themselves to the Housas even though, the Hausas have done so much avoc against the Yorubas. For example, the Hausas poisoned Awo and killed, killled Abiola and his wife, imprisoned Obasanjo, jailed Gen, Paul Diya and many other avocs against the yorubas yet they continue to ensalve themselves for the northerners.
Re: Femi Fani-Kayode Reacts To Oluwo Of Iwo, Akanbi Converting To Emir by callthefred: 9:42am On Apr 02, 2018
The Oluwo is actually just trying to create attention. Mind you an Emir is just a religious title. There are only 2 kings in the North; Sultan and Shehu of Bornu.

However, the crown in Yoruba land is a property of the Ogboni cult and I am certain the government gave a letter of appointment to the Oluwo of Iwo land so right now since the Oluwo stool is vacant, the government can appoint another Oluwo while the Emir can continue his Emirship.

You sey talk rubbish. Can the sultan of sokoto change to Oba or kabiesi of sokoto?

The ideal comparison will be if he were to use Sarki. Which in this case is not what the Oba is using.Just incase you don't know sultan is a borrowed term again like any other word eg Chief cheesy

Sultan (/ˈsʌltən/; Arabic: سلطان‎ sulṭān, pronounced [sʊlˈtˤɑːn, solˈtˤɑːn]) is a position with several historical meanings. Originally, it was an Arabic abstract noun meaning "strength", "authority", "rulership", derived from the verbal noun سلطة sulṭah, meaning "authority" or "power". Later, it came to be used as the title of certain rulers who claimed almost full sovereignty in practical terms (i.e., the lack of dependence on any higher ruler), albeit without claiming the overall caliphate, or to refer to a powerful governor of a province within the caliphate.
