Major Misconception About Male Rape by Divepen1(m): 7:40am On Jun 11, 2018
Men are also victims of sexual assault/violence, and their perpetrators can be of any gender identity. In a world where sexual assault/violence is predominant and much attention is focused on the female victims, it is easier for the male victims to be neglected by a predominant part of the society that seeks to generate a giant theoretical misconception, that men cannot be raped/assaulted.
It is not in all rape cases that rape is motivated my lustful desires but rape is motivated by the desire to control, dominate, hurt and humiliate not by sexual desire.
Over the years, various misconceptions about male rape, has risen which made the society believe that a man in adulthood cannot be raped because they view the male as the stronger vessel therefore they cannot be a raped and even if a man is raped, they consider such person a weakling or the initiator of the rape. Male rape can be carried out by young/old male or female on the young/old male. Many have found it difficult to believe that a female at times could sexually assault/violate a man. They believe it must have been the other way round. Because the rate at which females get raped daily, makes male sexual assault inconspicuous. Aware of the popular misconceptions on that for men, sex is always welcome, male victims also find it too embarrassed to report sexual assault as they will not get meaningful or helpful solution.
Some misconceptions which have risen as a result of this are;
Men can’t be sexually assaulted
The masculine gender expectations teach boys or men that they can’t be victims. That they are supposed to be competitive, self-reliant and independent but not emotionally needy. A 2009 medical research council survey carried out in South Africa showed that about 3.5% of men have been forced to have sex with other men. Also, in a report, carried out in Central African Republic, showed many cases that men and boys are being raped during armed attacks when they were captive or because they refused to join armed groups. As much as women can be rape victims, likewise men too.
It’s impossible for female to sexually assault a male
A 2014 study of 284 men and boys in college and high school found 43% reported being sexually assaulted, and 95% reported only female perpetrators. Most rape victims are forced to engage in penetration of the female victims without proper consent. In many cases, the male victims could be under the influence of sexually stimulated drugs like rophynol or flunitrazepam or held in life threatening positions.
Only few young boys get sexually violated
A lot of males get violated on daily basis. They aren’t few and its not all about the age or the size of the male. Statistics have shown that at age 16, as many as one in six boys in america has had unwanted sex with an adult. Millions of men, abused as children, continue to live with the effects of shattered trust.
The perpetrators are strangers
They aren’t strangers. Well, just a few of tem may be strangers but they may even be someon you care about. They may be uncle, father, close relative or even friends, teachers etc.
Men can’t be raped because before the act, they become aroused and erection takes place
Research has proven that erection or ejaculations are psychological responses that may result from mere physical contact or even extreme stress. Besides, ejaculation does not mean that someone enjoyed being assaulted. Most male victims, because of physiological effects of anal rape or direct penetration by their perpetrators, have an erection, ejaculate during their assault. Studies of male sexual physiology suggest that involuntary erections or ejaculations can occur in the context of nonconsensual, receptive or anal sex. But sexual assault isnt about sexual desire it is about power and control.
Futhermore, Just like women, men also face psychological effects as a result of this assault. Most male rape survivors, do not receive testing forsexually transmitted diseases that they may have contacted through rape, and they receive no follow-up support from psychological services to deal with the aftermath of theit assault. Men, in general find it difficult to seek for help or report their assault because of embarrasement, societal myths etc.
Men who are rape victims probably from fellow men may face a psychological aftermath of, questioning their sexual identity. Apart from the fact that people will question them and ask them why they had let themselves get raped, they might start seeing themselves as less of a man especially when they are raped by the opposite sex.
They may also not be able to leave with the trauma and might as well lead to insomnia, nightmares etc. such people might also loose their sense of livelihood for a very long time. He would not also be able to relate well with people or trust them like he use to and he would be forced to leave with the nightmares for the rest of his life because he feels no one would believe him if he decides to report the incident.
Men can be sexually assaulted through oral means or through anal means or through direct penetration in the case where by the perpetrator is a female.
However, these misconceptions can be prevented through;
Creation of an awareness program about male sexual assault/violence on male. If this awareness is created it will help the society know that men could also be victims of rape. The government could help create this awareness and could be announced all over the various means of telecommunications example social media.

There should also be support networks for males. Like we have female support groups for female rape victims, there should also be for male . so that male victims would be free to report their perpetrators and discuss how they feel. And also to be able to get proffered solutions to their problems.

RUBBISH.

It's just like getting an A in a course and saying you didn't prepare for it.
How on earth can someone get an erection and still claim to be raped?

By the way, you're a woman and probably grew up with the mentality that all men are dogs and would jump at every woman that present themselves.
Research shows that men are aroused for more than 6 reasons, fear and intimidation being part of them.

How is this relevant to clinicians?
The authors discuss some experimental studies (e.g. Barlow 1983, 1986) that suggest that anxiety and threat stimuli can actually increase erection and sexual arousal. They finally explain their treatment model: “Patients have found the following explanation particularly helpful and easy to understand: “Erections is a reflexive response involving changes in blood flow, and can be regarded as similar to excessive blushing in social situations. As often happens with blushing, the more anxious one becomes about the response itself, the more likely it is to happen, because the reflex can be paradoxically set off by anxiety.”. Careful explanation about the nature of unwanted erections is crucial – without this appropriate behavioural treatment may be unacceptable to these patients”.

How on earth can someone get an erection and still claim to be raped?
It's all sensual,, a guy in his early twenties once narrated how he was gang raped by three women, they overpowered him,, stripped him naked,, used a particular cream to erect his penis and raped him.

There is a cream that erects the penis even when the man doesn't want it....

Secondly,, the penis is wired to stand at an attention after receiving its message from the brain at any contact with the female seductive parts....It can also be linked to sensual relativity.

Men being victims of rape is so true and some more enlightened countries are beginning to pay attention to this. So also is domestic violence generally. I was amazed at the number of men that are being abused by their wives while undertaking a research. However, they couldn't speak out on time because their masculinity will be question by family and friends. Even counseling centers refused to attend to them saying they may have offended the woman to make them violent. Most surprising was when a woman went for counseling herself because she was violent towards her husband and was told she was probably offended by him instead of addressing the main issues. The police was called at a point by a man who was being assaulted by his partner and they laughed at him. This was in America that is thought to be enlightened.
It is true that more women are being abused however attention needs to be given to the men that are also abused. In this light, Section 1 of the Violence Against Person (Prohibition) Act 2015 defines rape thus:
1. (1) A person commits the offence of rape if-

(a) he or she intentionally penetrates the vagina, anus or mouth of another person with any other part of his or her body or anything else;

(b) the other person does not consent to the penetration; or

(c) the consent is obtained by force or means of threat or intimidation of any kind or by fear of harm or by means of false and fraudulent representation as to the nature of the act or the use of any substance or additive capable of taking away the will of such person or in the case of a married person by impersonating his or her spouse.
The (a) part can be said to put men in perspective of being rape victims too. This is a step in the right direction of the present happenings as distinguished from the Criminal Code which relates only to females just that its enforcement is limited to Abuja. This means House of Assembly of States should enact similar laws for their States.
Also, men should not keep quiet because it will negatively affect their mental health. Your speaking out doesn't make you less of a man. There are counselors available to help you through your healing process. Speak out!
If any male or female has experienced abuse and would like to talk to someone, you can pm me to get you connected.
More awareness needs to be made but not necessarily by the government. Social media is a good place to start advocating for this. We should all continue to speak out against all forms of violence whether against men or women.

its disappointing that male rape is talked about mostly when the rapist is another man. its very rare to hear of WOMEN actually raping men. in all scenarios the perpetrator has to be male.

Op is right here, a girl tried to rape me some time back..I went visiting and kept my distance, she tried initiating closeness and got it by dipping her hand in my pocket, brought out 1k note in a giffy knowing I will quickly want to rescue my money...she then held me and tried kissing which I resisted stiffly.

She then quickly dipped her hand in my trouser to bring my d**k out which I resisted swiftly and had to move back an inch...it all happened so fast that her finger scratched my d**k and little stain of blood was there...I couldn't say anything cause they will laugh at me, I stopped picking her calls and was telling my friends she likes disturbing me...

These images really hurt. cry It feels terrible that why parents leave their kids or even teenage boys with such monsters. I think it is high time when we should start realizing that men could also be a victim of sexual assault and harassment. I don't think age is a factor here because I have seen many people face unwanted experiences in their late 30s. According to this https://www.1in6.uk/unwanted-sexual-experiences/the-1-in-6-statistic/ ManKind UK research, around 42% of male participants shared that they have faced unwanted sexual experiences from 1-13 times in their life. All of these candidates were 18 plus.

Similarly, this survey https://www.rainn.org/statistics/victims-sexual-violence of the United States claims 1 of 33 American males face rape or its attempt in their life. If developed countries have situations like this then what you can expect from the underdeveloped world?
