Hardlife: You can fight off gambling mentally. This is how I control my addiction for gambling. 1. If I lose a kobo, I sit-down to analyze all the different things I could have done with that money. I replay that scenario in my mind. It causes regret and makes me annoyed and I promise myself of not depending on gambling for money. 2. I could hear her crying, wailing from the other room that God should intervene in my life. To cut the story short, I said to myself I needed to quit. On a funny note, If you are jailed for 6months, you will not remember GAM, not to talk of BLING. To the issue at hand, I have learnt that without counseling and discipline, you will never stop gambling. Get counsel and try as much as possible not to keep money, even N10. Don't go to places where they gamble but read books and engage in other ventures to occupy your mind. If possible, go to school from home because independence can fuel your urge. Tell your parents to help. From the spiritual angle, there might be spirit of waste working against you. If you are a Christian, go for deliverance in a church. @op so sorry for what you've been through. Yours was even better than mine. For a period of 3 months I lost all my 2 years savings on betfair. I lost a whooping #300000 on bet9ja before graduating to betfair where I spent all my life savings. What you need now is a complete rehab, if you have gambling friends stay away from them for now. Delete all bet9ja and prediction tools from your phone and PC. Stay clear from virtual bet guide threads even here on nairaland. ( i lost over #100.000) to MAST strategy here on nairaland. If I hadn't met first hand someone with bet addiction experience, I couldn't have believed or have an inclination of what it's like. He is a barrister from a good comfortable home, lucky for him, he didn't start virtual while in school, his parents are Godly and pray a lot, if not, that young man would have been a waste. He is intelligent, at least passing law school and consistently managed to keep his job is a plus. The issue is he can spend his salary the same day on virtual, like get paid and after work, the next place to go is bet9ja. However, he will recover completely (still on the process). He did something, he exposed his addiction. If you're close to him, the first thing he will tell you is he has a bad habit, which is bet9ja virtual. This is helping him, don't hide your addiction, especially to your loved ones, expose it to anybody close to you, give them a sense of responsibility about you. You won't stop outright, but you will minimise it. CHANGE your friends. You see, the first route to addiction and other vices is a purposeless life. Mingle with friends that have powerful drive to succeed, if need be, call them bosses with respect. Imagine how your life will become in the next few years if you don't stop. Hey! Develop an ego, the type that don't like insults, the type that get motivated to succeed too by other people's success, the type that compete with yourself to get better every day. Read books on addictions, a classic like the rich man of Babylon has some chapters dedicated to betting. Remove greed and hate quick unmerited bucks. Have you being in a very dark room before And suddenly experienced light? The light intensity is so much your eyes may not take it all immediately comfortably, that is how you will be if you beat this darkness. Hardlife:For one to quit one bad habit, he would have to develop another good one. Number 1) Go down on your knees and beg God for forgiveness and then give your life to God. 2)Engage in Godly activities and then make new friends especially someone who would always tell you the truth and who is disgusted by the idea of gambling. 3) Make a habit never to cross the same side as a betting shop, always look the other way and then you should look for a good mentor or someone like a pastor/priest who you can pour your heart too and who you would hand yourself willingly over to, so he could help reform you. I pray you get the help you need, pray always too, it helps especially when you feel the urge to fall again. |
