To me if u want a child and for some reasons u can't have it urself, and u want ur own blood/gene u don't want to adopt, surrogate is the best option,, it's just DAT its more expensive dan adoption or normal way,,,,Nigerias don't like minding their business in things and they won't make research very well concerning things so many people still think backward,,,,DAT is y u will see so many women die at child birth or have a still born just cos dey don't take doc's advice during labour... Tradition and customs: All lies that society has used to subdue and barricade people from reaching their potentials. Surrogate mother will "go crazy" and want "her baby" back: Hollywood thriller stereotype that needs to go away forever. This hardly happens. She can't call it her baby if it's not her egg. If you have 500 surrogate pregnancies maybe one out of the 500 tend to go crazy. Also, they go through rigorous vetting and psychological evaluation. There is also an element of anonymity that the intending parents can sign up for. You can sue the fertility clinic if they breach this. Surrogate mother doesn't have to know you. Surrogate mother will be "emotionally attached" to the baby: Unlikely. You have no idea the kinda women who do these things. They already have a mindset of "this is not my own baby" when they start the process. If women were that emotionally attached to babies (yimu) they won't be doing any abortions or throwing away babies inside refuse dump. So, that emotionally attached thing will hardly happen. MR OP abeg walk into a REPUTABLE IVF clinic and let them know what you want. Nairaland people will not help much. 4 Likes |

modernWays: It is a solution to a problem and not a fancy habit. If there was no problem it would not have necessitated this solution. Now a woman with viable eggs can have her own child even if her womb is not able to carry her child, someone else would carry it, a benefit that outweighs whatever emotional "repercussions" might result from it. 1 Like |

modernWays: You my friend.. you're one BIG psycho demented illiterate, ignorant and arrogant. PLEASE LEARN: Here sperm is taken from MAN and egg from the WIFE and embryo is created by In Vitro Fertilization(IVF) which is then transferred into F2(SURROGATE) for further growth. By this the baby born will inherit the traits of the parent(M&W) and will not have any traits of the surrogate mother(F2). 5 Likes |

Honestly, I'm really shocked at most comments here, most people here don't even know what surrogacy entails and will not want to learn. ITKs are too much in this forum, mtcheew @modernWays go and make more research about the said topic cos you know nothing. 2 Likes |

Nwambaise:what makes it legal in Nigeria, seeing that there is no law recognizing it in the first place?. The only thing you can advise the OP is to have papers signed as legal back up but saying it is legal in Nigeria, I beg to disagree. |

Milonis:Did you not read the part where he mentioned that the reason is best known to them and their Doctor. what exactly is surrogacy? what is wrong with it? and how is it western media influenced? He is already on the right path by asking whether or not surrogacy is legal in Nigeria. if it is legal, then there is nothing wrong at all. Depending on the type of surrogacy he wants ( traditional or gestational surrogacy) in traditional surrogacy, the man's sperm and the surrogate egg are used and that genetically makes the surrogate a partial owner of the baby. But in gestational surrogacy, the couple's egg and sperm are used which make them by genetics, a 100% owner of the baby. Gestational surrogacy is preferable since both couple's egg and sperm is used to make the baby unless otherwise. If you can't call IVF, family planning western media influenced, I don't see any reason why you should categorize surrogacy as western media influenced. Things like white wedding and baby showers are the type of things we should castigate as western media influenced. 1 Like |

Re: Surrogacy, How Effective Is It In Nigeria? by MollyBank: 6:06pm On Jul 28, 2018 |
lonelydora: Even kim Kardashian, their surrogate knows them. She can't do anything later on because the law backs them and two, there is no genetic relationship between the child and the surrogate. In the case of Cristiano Ronaldo, the surrogate mothers didn't have a hint who Cee was. They never met. 2 Likes |
