Actually, I think many of us mistake "territoriality" for "aggression". When we say we want our dogs to be aggressive, what many people intend saying is for it to display territorial instinct: trust me, nobody wants an aggressive dog.
Roscoe sure has his territorial instinct active that is why he is free with you all in the house cos everyone belongs to his pack, but when a stranger steps in, he goes berserk on them. He is defending his territory from "invaders". For many of these dogs, you might be wondering if they can ever attack anyone or bite anyone cos of how well socialised they are and how you two have bonded (it might be giving you concern though that can it ever guard its territory), until you see the same dog giving a stranger the chase of his life and truly when you see the stranger run, nyoyneill know the race has a lot to do with the stranger's survival.
I have once been on a Boerboel group when a responsible breeder that knows his onions (not new in the game), had to put down one of his clients Boerboel. It was way tok aggressive and couldn't be tamed. It couldn't reference anyone as alpha, it attacked even its owner: both father and mother, and even children... And they raise the dog from puppyhood. It was aggressive to both humans and dogs. Two bullets was needed to put it down cos one bullet couldn't do the job. It was the kind of dog that even as the owner when you enter your compound and find its cage opened, you run into its cage, and lock yourself inside before you determine your next course of action. Now, that is an aggressive dog.
I hope sey my story no dey too much. By the way, I love Roscoe.
Out of curiosity, do you know how to crop a Cauc's ears?
aggression isn't a bad thing in dogs tho, a dog cannot be territorial without being aggressive.
I've not seen a dog ask intruders or smile at intruders to leave it's territory before, all territorial dogs bark and attack intruders which automatically means they are aggressive.
I've written something about this before... it's attached to this comment.
aggression doesn't have to be mad or reckless, if it's showing violence or willingness to be violent it's an aggressive dog.

I think a starting point should be... For the visitor feeding him. At first, let then visitor be the knw to hold his food, and let Jack see the visitor witj his food, while you make sure Jack is secured so you don't have to separate "fight". Initially, you do the serving but the visitor brings the food to him). Gradually, the visitor does the serving.. With time, other factors will play out. But its important yourself don't feel nervous (though there should not be a reason for you to be) cos the dog will sense that in you, and will naturally want to protect you
nice write up. I'll try it

Lol. More like you "scamming" the dog grin
Been long u last visited this great thread. Great job, OP
lmao, it starts of as a scam but it's just great conditioning that makes dogs feel powerful and invincible cheesy
dogs brought up like that are usually fearless if you do it well, later on during the training you can pad the person and let the dog attack and let the person fight back too with weapons (not something that can injure the dog, plastic bottles are okay).
if you train your guard dog like that, the dog will attack any intruder without thinking twice

So we're back from the hiatus cheesy
Sorry for the delay, I've been very busy and I haven't been frequent at home.
Roscoe has been doing well, anytime I come back I try to play with him and exercise him since he's no longer going on walks(I won't be taking him out until next year because of the parvo outbreak during this season).

I was considering starting a personal poultry at home so I got a young chicken to start.

Roscoe was playing with the chicken and he refused to leave it alone.
He kept biting it but he wasn't doing it hard enough to kill it.
He was also barking at it and trying to make it run so he'll chase it.
I had to tie the chicken somewhere and block it with something to keep him away from it, it worked for a few days until I saw this one day, the chicken escaped and he got to it first before I even knew.
After that i decided to teach him how to control himself around chickens

Re: Diary of my Caucasian Roscoe by IamAnderson(m): 7:30pm On Dec 16, 2019
And one of the reasons i wasn't able to update also was because we had some visitors that came to stay over for sometime and Roscoe was being too aggressive towards them so he had to be locked up throughout the time they were around.
Even when we free him at night he'll go to the room where they are to bark at them through the window, even if they are in the parlour he'll stand up and be looking through the window to bark at them.
Or if they go outside into the compound the way he stands up on his hindlegs and claws at the bars on his kennel while barking angrily at them even frightens me.
That's why we had to keep him locked up to avoid any accidents.

I honestly don't know why he was overly aggressive to them...he's met them before at 4 months so I was hoping he'll be at least a little bit familiar with them.

Maybe he could sense that nobody was happy with the visitor's presence (the holiday was not well planned for so we were all hoping they'd leave soon, you know how it goes cheesy ).

Anyways, I got a new chicken and so far he has been good with it, he bullies it once on a while and plays with it too but nothing too lethal has happened so there's progress.
By Wednesday I'll get more chickens to join let's see how he'll get accustomed to them smiley

yeah different parts of his body started becoming bigger since he turned 10 months old.
it started with his chest, one day I just noticed how wide his chest became and now it seems the wideness has spread to other parts lol.

about the parvo thing, around this time parvo cases are more frequent it's usually called parvo season so the best thing is to keep your dog inside till the harmattan is over.
I've already seen multiple dogs die this period this year, keep your dog safe.

Finally finished the thread from the very first page.
*Summary*
Roscoe na incredible dog
IamAnderson na intelligent man

I took the liberty of saving some contact numbers: IamAnderson’s and Oluomoadebayo’s. I also followed people I perceive to be experts. Pls don’t blame me, I enjoy learning from people with expertise.

I learnt a lot from this thread, including; Grooming, Feeding&Nutrition, Territoriality and aggression, Do’s And Don’t’s.
Roscoe and Spark and Rex informed my decision of getting a Caucasian Shepherd and I don’t regret it. I’d also need lots of advice on the thread I created for Zeus and Medusa. As can be foreseen, I’m a beginner and I wish my Nairaland family assist me in raising my canine friends. Thanks in anticipation.

First Post of the year so happy new year even though it's late lol.
I realised it's been almost a month since my last update so I decided to post today.
Roscoe is 1yr 4 months old now, I've been considering letting him breed although I haven't really been serious about it.
maybe sometime soon I'll officially put him up as available for stud services.

and update on the chicken situation, I got more chickens and he didn't harm any one at all till we used all of them smiley ,so now I can have a poultry in peace.

yeah his coat is really soft, it still feels like puppy fur smiley
it's probably because of the raw egg he eats every day, o haven't even given him cod liver oil since he was about 5months old

Really so raw eggs does this wonder?

Haven't heard this anywhere before but someone said raw eggs isn't good for dogs in a WhatsApp group, a boerboel WhatsApp group

raw eggs are very good for dogs, they help their coat and eyes.
it even works with humans too, raw egg is a natural hair moisturizer and conditioner.
the avidin, vitamin A, linoelic acid and protein in eggs are all hair boosters for both humans and dogs.

some people say raw eggs can bring salmonella infection to the dog but the same people have never brushed their dog before and leave the dog outside to pick and eat things around without even thinking twice.
so how does a dog that is exposed to bacteria every single moment of it's life want to breakdown because of ordinary salmonella?
salmonella isn't a big deal to dogs not to talk of dogs that have built up immunities against most bacterias.
the average Nigerian dog doesn't brush, eats rodents and insects raw, picks things from the ground, drinks water that has been left open for hours, eats food that flies have perched on, sparsely bathes,e.t.c
if your dog passes through all that every day and you're still afraid of your dog getting exposed to bacteria then you're just deceiving yourself cheesy

another thing people say is that raw eggs cause biotin deficiency, that has also been proved wrong as egg yolk is rich in biotin and it takes an extraordinary amount of raw eggs to cause a deficiency.

when you want to raw feed eggs, buy fresh organic eggs and you'll be fine, nothing is going to happen to your dog wink
