Ah compiling! My fav ish! Umm actually u need some small packages to compile. Unfortunately am not near my pc n i cant rmbr d names. I knw one of dem is 'make'.

Anyway as long as u can get online n download frm synaptic u dnt hav an issue. They are all in synaptic n very small in size, kb

Anyway 2 d koko, if u download source filer, usually there is d instructions on d page. But even beta, when u extract d files into a folder, open d folder, there are 2 files dt are vital, one is d readme file, d other is d install file. Open them with text editor and read, d instructions on how to install and at times run are there.

Now usually if u try 2 compile, n u dnt hav d neccesary dependencies, d terminal will tell u dt it cant find sumtin, so u then sudo apt-get that thing and start over. At times esp wen just starting out it can be icky n annoying.

Generally to install, noob way, after extracting 2 a folder, open up a terminal window, type cd (d directory) dt is cd space folder location.
Wat i usually do is type cd(space) then drag d folder into terminal. Press enter.

Next just type ./configure
Press Enter

U then get a lot of gibberish, if there is a dependency it will say so at d end. Try read at least d last 5 lines.

If succesful, type
Make
Press enter.

Again a lot of gib, if any issues, it will report.

If succesful, u then type
Sudo make install

Press enter. It will do d magic. He he!

Anyways installin frm source is just avoided by pple becos of dependency issues which apt usually takes care of but in my experience, d real koko wares are in source, besides u can even customise!

And there are other ways to install apart frm make, it depends on d sourcn files. And since dis open kiosk is based on fedora, am suspecting maybe u will hav 2 get d source files of some dependencies frm dt site too n compile them seperately. Maybe after u hav done 1 system successfully u can make a deb frm all those source files for oda systems

Ubuntu is a superb choice. Superubuntu is a modified version of ubuntu, modified by adding stuff u generally need like java, sound codecs, etc. D guy who did it has done a lot of ur work setting up d os 4 use already. I just thot maybe ul like dt n it will reduce ur stress.

Google it, it has a site where u can dwnld it, its abt 900mb, its cool.

Since it has vents under, d fan thingy may be a gud choice. Just dunno if d price will b worth it

Anyway quite clearly ur fan is not workin anymore. U can check by lookin around n under ur lapie 4 a small vent. Hot air shld be blowing out of it. If not its not working.

Solution, get a tech 2 change it or buy a new lapie.

Now ur learning. Anyway d causes
1. it is an amd based processor, those have heat issues so next time read d pc specs, ask 4 an intel processor pc.
2. Long periods on. Now ITS a LAPTOP n hmmn, But more importantly wen ur not using it bt u dnt wanna shut down, standby is a beta option. Also hibernate bt dt may give u issues if used all d time. Difference is standby consumes more pwr if on battery.
3. More importantly, u shldnt place ur lapie on flat surfaces dt wont allow air under n around it. Esp on beds n rugs. Am talking frm practical exp. They heat up faster. Most laptops come wit little stands. Look around urs, lil stuff u can move so d lapie sorta has a stand. If it doesnt, do wat i do, get something little to prop up a side of d lapie, usually d back is more comfortable from d usage view, just 2 ensure air is blowing d thing allover!

Check hardware stores 4 d price of d fan thingy.
Dnt wori it'l soon be winter, then u'l b using it 2 warm ya hands!
