emvuatt: My corrola rings was changed but it not overheating but once I put on the Ac it start increasing what should I do.? Mechanic said I should change to double cell radiator
Bro, when I hear about thermostats being removed, and the much fabled "double cell" radiator being fitted, I get pretty annoyed. And to be honest, you guys feed these phoney "mechanics" with the ammunition with which to fleece you. A coolant reduction means a leak -
I wonder how replacing the factory radiator with a "double cell" unit, and removing the thermostat will solve coolant loss? You're simply throwing money at your car, via your mechanic, who's just going by trial and error, replacing parts randomly, AT YOUR COST. If I were you, I would bite the bullet, and take your car to A REPUTABLE GARAGE. Sure, they'll cost, but at least you stand a chance of getting your car fixed.
As it stands, you might as well pour your money into a blast furnace, and watch it BURN.
emvuatt: My corrola rings was changed but it not overheating but once I put on the Ac it start increasing what should I do.? Mechanic said I should change to double cell radiator
You need to still go further in diagnosis of the reason for that overheating.
Simply changing to a double cell radiator is applying plaster on an open wound. A short cut that may not even work.
it still works at random. and works just fine when it works
When it stops working apparently the diagnosis is: the compressor is not getting power, but the relay and fuses are ok.
Went to change the AC switch panel on the dash and the guy was honest enough to tell me he didn't think there's anything wrong with the one i have there at the moment
he then removed the relay and stuck a wire into the slots, and the compressor starts. he said the Relay is fine which is really confusing......
also watched another stick a long screwdriver down to push the AC Clutch and it started. that one said the AC clutch needs to be 'serviced' whatever that means. Doesn't add up for me because like i said the system does work fine when it works.....
I just need to know precisely what needs to be fixed. Thus far no one seems to be sure. Haven't let anyone touch anything though. Not a big fan of guesswork.

jossytech: Hi all car expertise and experienced, car user,i just get mysef 07 Corrola. Please what are d thing to change in it, oil or tyre, I've paid for Lagos no, do I need other things, documents or anything. No service light or any error light in d instrumental panel n car came with 119k km ( its from Canada)
Guide me biko
Complete registration papers.
Proper inspection, especially of suspension parts, brakes etc.
Check tyres for quality and lifespan. May require changing them. Try to buy new tyres. It's cheaper in the long run
rexfada: Thanks for your input. My options were Ford escape 05/06 or Mazda tribute 05/06 but my mechanic discouraged me from both options citing frequent engine faults, expensive and unavailability of parts as excuse. He advised I go for a corolla or Toyota matrix instead. But, I want to do something else besides a Toyota this time around.
Well, everybody is advised the same. Buy Corolla
Ultimately it's your choice. Depends on what you want.
Shine your eye and do your due diligence inspection before purchase which applies to any car I guess.
But I like mine sha.
Only thing is that like for any car that old, some parts are likely to require changing. 05 car is 14 years old .......
Oh and fully synthetic motor oil. Don't allow anyone confuse you into anything else.
Car manufacturer recommends 5w30. Or 10w30 for hot places or where it will see hard use.
Lagos is definitely hot and hard use. I started with 5w30 and changed to 10w30 and it was better for it.
rexfada: Hello Nairalanders, I plan on getting an SUV, esp a Volvo XC90 05/06 model. I need an advice from professionals and experienced users of the pros and cons of getting the car. I want to know; * the cost of using and maintaining the car * how expensive and readily available are the parts * what is the fuel economy of the car like * how reliable is the car on Nigerian roads * which of the variant (L5, T6, V8) is better to go for * which other low budget SUVs can be substitutes for it.
CC: Nairaland car gurus
its ok i guess. as a non guru user
some parts aren't expensive. some are. like any other vehicle. but its generally on the affordable side. getting popular and prices are starting to go up......
familiarize yourself with Alhaji Amusa street in Ladipo sha. kazeems that can fix it are few and far between + i feel its always cheaper in Ladipo. parts are always available there.
fuel economy: you are looking at 15-17 MPG for lagos traffic driving. on free roads its very decent, and gets close to 30Mpg. did lagos to badagry and back with 20 litres ish bad roads/ bad traffic and all.
Learnt 5 cylinder is the best choice. learnt T6 engines are not advised. (don't quote me sha)
bit under-powered though. 0-60 is not quick, but when it gets moving, i'd advice you slow down if you are looking for racing/power best buy the v8 3.2L engines (even those aren't likely to win races)
Maybe 02 - 03 Highlander. Xterra is a worse vehicle. Pathfinder is arguably worse in my opinion (and more expensive to maintain) or maybe those Mitsubishi Montero them, i know nothing about those
kingreign: Give done this on quite a number of cars and NO BODY WILL KNOW such was done on these cars. But I don't think I'd have the conscience to do such any more.
The car won't have any tell tale signs when scanned?
The wiring, sensors , everything intact and pass the tests?
Every Mercedes I've ever come across with cut and welded frame had issues driving straight!
Johnsonkeyz2019: My AC that's doing that after random checks and trial the rewire came this morning to say that it is the Brain Box that is supplying power to the Condenser and that he will have to get a thermostat and kind of repackage another switch for the Condenser or so
Lol
No please.
Take it to proper AC people.
Why you go.even call rewire for AC problem
I followed oga Autologic suggestion and asked for this test
autologic: change the AC clutch .It is losing already it magnetism which account for it working intermittently. To confirm this ,do this check when the AC compressor is down(with the AC switch On) Remove the compressor input power feed connector and confirm if it still carrying 12v even when the compressor is not working and if so then my claim is right .
Mine was the AC Clutch coil.
I've fixed mine and it's working fine.
They will remove the compressor and fix the coil diode or replace the coil entirely. Then replace the gas in the system.
Greenarrow01: Pls how much will it cost.. Cos..one might have to change the dashboard outlook.. And do you have pics of one you did ? Will it also come with a navigation or just the rev cam
Doesn't have to be in dash ......if reverse cam is all you really want sha.......
There's tons of different after market reverse camera setup
philipbash: If you are very smart at tracking, track tstv first, then attach multi tv below along the pole. Or you call an experience installer in your area. If you are in Lagos, I can do it for you. I will even add nigcomsat direction making three satellites on a single dish. Ensure your dish is at least 90cm. DStv lnb can also be incorporated to make it four if you want it on it. For more information call 08086181700 or Whatsapp 08060150782

I am a novice, just got myself a Nissan xterra ( I know you don't want to hear " Nissan " ....) , but well, I need your beginner's guide as a novice, the do's and don't's , engine oil, break oils and general DIY mentanance. And lastly, thing to know as a first timer----my first vehicle , actually.
