My vehicle engine temp is always in this range when it gets up to speed.

Doesn't exceed this though. I've not had an overheating issue. I use coolant and not water.

I'm thinking about it because my plastic radiator developed a crack recently that I had to fix.

Thereafter I replaced with Abro coolant .

My temp gauge is always on this level when the engine gets up to temp. Been like that since I got the vehicle

Should I be worried?

Never owned one buit have driven them. I know a couple of them always frequenting my mechanic's shop. All their owners are looking for buyers.

Your car manual actually does state it's 5000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.

A friend of mine said cars need to be serviced every 3 months, I don't know how accurate this statement is. I never serviced my former car that often.

She seems very fine, my dashboard isn't displaying any problems. But you never know, better safe than sorry.

You didn't mention the make/model of the car.

Servicing depends on the manufacturer recommended schedule and your usage of the car.

5000 Miles covered or 6 months is a reasonable rule of thumb

if you aren't driving the car hard all the time, 3 months is probably too soon to service.

And before anyone asks what I'd been doing for maintenance, I used to take her to the auto dealer where I got her. I don't know what they did, I just showed up for appointments.

And no I can't go to my dealer because I moved back to Nigeria and brought my car with me.

whatever you do, when you need to service or fix your car go to a proper garage or at least a mech who is educated and knows the basics of modern vehicles.

if there's no 'check engine' sign on the dashboard and the car is running fine, i fail to see why you would need a scan.

You could get a general look over and assessment when you go in for Oil Change though. Good garages will do that anyway

Lol. you are looking at replacing the Catalytic Converter or at least one of the 02 sensors.

I have learnt a lot already. Pls what is the recommended oil for a Toyota Corolla 2003 model. The Motor manual is in an unknown language so I cannot make anything out of it.

Meanwhile, I encourage everyone to take a look under their vehicles today.

My XC90 brought up a Check Engine which turned out to be Catalytic converter issue

I accidentally took a look under the vehicle and saw that the Catalytic converter had actually been cut open in 2 places and welded.

I failed to inspect underneath the vehicle properly it appears.

What I'm mystified about is how it passed scans and didn't throw a light about the Catalytic Converter for a whole month of hard driving.

The ECU wasn't cleared and threw up some other diagnosis at point of purchase, but not catalytic converter

When I clear it myself now, it usually shows up within a day... Really neat trick.

EDIT:. I found out that the evap code may be due to overfilling the fuel tank + dodgy tank cap. Both of which I confirm may have happened today.

I am sure you are not older than the boy in my workshop who converts two right hand Toyota vehicles to left hand to suit the Nigerian driving system, he worked on these two cars in one day, something Oladipo main market will take one week to fix one car, and you have the guts and time to face this blessed direction with your ugly face.

Who did your transmission oil change and why? Get it to a good shop to be checked for leaks.

Can your shop handle it? Lots of shops thumb nose at Volvo.

Now young man ,Google has always been your friend.. The reason why the manufacture will recommend castrol 5w30 is that 5w30 castrol has enough additives that no matter what the climate weather you are in, that particular castrol 5w30 will perform to the task .. That is why Volvo recommends Castrol for all of its car .. Now if your car has been using the wrong oil from day one ,than chances are the damaged has been done. The purpose of you using the correct oil is to prolong and enhance your engine for best performance, and not fix anything that has already been damaged by the wrong use of oil .. Same thing goes for gear oil or proper word for it transmission fluid. Same model cars will specifically tell you to use the manufacture gear oil ,and failing to do so will damage your transmission and void any warranty you might have had #factsonly#

The car is a tòkunbó. I decided to service it before using it, and thought there's nothing wrong with getting practical advice.

Unless whoever used it abroad abused it, I think it is still in good condition.

I did use Castrol 5W30 for the oil change, however nothing says If there's a room to improve I shouldn't take it

I'm seeking advice so that I can prolong its life in my hands is all.

Please where can I and how much will it cost me to duplicate my car key?

Quick correction. You should be using 10w30 in this climate. Look at last paragraph in image as well as my original spec details.

What I gave you was specs for YOUR VIN number not some generalized table. You do not have to use Castrol. We carry that too but you do not need it. The person advising you is well documented on Nairaland as constantly having car issues and seeking help. Coming from actual techs as well as past Volvo owners not someone just trying to sell some oil.

For 10W30 which brand would you direct me to?

Preferably Synthetic, and easy to source.





Meanwhile since I did the oil change I've noticed a bit of leaking. Drops more like. looks like transmission oil which I also changed at the same time I did the engine oil change


I don't have any lights on and the explanation I got was that after a change it was normal to see little leaks like that for a week before it would stop, probably too much oil was poured in......

Does that make sense? Should I be worried?
