Borno State with over 300 citizens tops
the list of Nigerian evacuees from the
troubled Central African Republic (CAR).
Anambra State with 280 has the second
highest number with more than 1,113
evacuated at the weekend.
A NEMA official involved in the evacuation
– who did not want his name mentioned –
gave the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) the
figure.
The military has joined in the efforts to
evacuate Nigerians from the country
which is going through religious war.
NAN also reports that three injured
evacuees are receiving treatment at the
Nigeria Air force Base Medical Clinic on
the Airport Road in Abuja.
Mr Umar Abubakar, an indigene of Borno,
who is being treated for bullet wounds
from the crisis in Bangui, said he was shot
on the chest while trying to run to safety.
NAN reports that an aged woman who
gave her name as Hajia Aisha is being
treated for High Blood Pressure.
Aisha, who hails from Mubi in Adamawa,
said she and her grandchildren were
among survivors from the Bangui crisis.
Another evacuee, Malam Musa
Mohammed, who is also ill, is receiving
treatment at the medical clinic located at
the Airforce Base, on Bill Clinton way,
near the airport.
Alhaji Mohammad Sani-Sidi, the Director
General, National Emergency Management
Agency (NEMA), appealed to state
governments whose indigenes were
affected to collect them from the Hajj
camp in Abuja.
Sani-Sidi made the appeal yesterday in
Abuja while on inspection of the Hajj
Camp where the evacuees are being
accommodated.
He said prompt collection of the evacuees
from the camp by the state governments
whose indigenes were affected, would
reduce their suffering.
“The immediate collection of the evacuees
will facilitate their integration into the
society.
“The affected state governments had since
been contacted to collect their indigenes
from the camp.
“The evacuees were interviewed in Bangui
and certified to be Nigerians,” he said.

The revenue generating potential of
Nigeria’s film industry otherwise known as
Nollywood, was once again brought to the
fore as the managing director of the
Nigerian Export Import Bank (NEXIM),
Robert Orya disclosed that the industry
generated about N126.4bn ($800m) in the
last three years, thus making it the third
highest movie revenue earner in the
world.
With a consistent production of over
2,400 yearly titles in the past three years
– 2,408; 2,514; and 2,621 in 2008, 2009
and 2010 respectively, NEXIM has
revealed that Nigeria is Africa’s biggest
movie producer. A 2011 data from the
Nigerian Film and Videos Census Board
(NFVCB) indicated that 1,743 and 1,234
movies were respectively registered and
approved. The percentages produced in
2012 in the main languages were English
(44% ), Yoruba (31%), Hausa (24%) and
Igbo (1%).
Meanwhile, the global film and
entertainment industry is reported to have
raked in about N14.3trillion ($90.6billion)
revenue in 2010, with an increased
projection of N16.2trillion ($102billion)
in 2012.
In global rankings, Hollywood still sets the
pace closely followed by India’s
Bollywood with Nollywood coming in at
third place.
