What would one call the daughter of one's sister? Niece, right. She was impregnated while still in secondary school. I bluntly said and stood firmly against marrying her off because of one mistake. She was young, unprepared, immature, unskilled and psychologically and emotionally immature to start the role of a housewife even though the guy who impregnated her was much older and working. We told the guy to hold on or move on. Her education was put on hold. When she delivered, she went back to school, SSS. She completed it but opted for skill learning. She learnt tailoring.
We were not ready to sacrifice her because of one stupid mistake. The fact that she was impregnated didn't make me concluded that she did it because she was ready for marriage. That would be too wicked of a conclusion for us, her family.
And about the stigma, the supposed stigma of being referred to as "after one" would be nothing compared to what she would have faced as a teenage, jobless housewife.
