They have spies and lobbyist in government.

They immediately block any Accounting Professional body that springs up.

Why should we have multiple Accounting bodies in the country?

ICAN is a professional body of Acciuntants and has never claimed to be jack of all trades. Accountancy is a profession with many parts just like Medicine, engineering, law etc. We cannot continue to fragment the profession simply because some people cannot pass ICAN exams. NMA is NMA, NBA is NBA, NSE is NSE... why should ICAN be different?

CIFIAN is a useless bill that would add nothing to the country. In fact, we missed a bullet by killing the bill. Audit is part and parcel of the business of an Accountant and nobody can take that away from ICAN.
Does the bolded professional body allow all manner of persons to their profession ? Isn't it foolish for the profession to allow all manner of persons because they need money?. Would an accountant become a doctor easily?

Yes since all manner of persons can come into the profession easily. No point in denying it because that institute is a threat to ICAN same way they were at log head with ANAN and CITN

It's true ICAN have her lapses but having more than one Accounting body in a country makes the profession vulnerable...

Of course ICAN have a forensic section, they produce forensic accountants too...

What’s the correlation between route to membership and multiplicity of a professional body?

To address your point, ICAN believes in giving all lovers of the profession an opportunity to become a professional Accountant. If you can pass all the qualifying exams, then you are fit to practice Accounting irrespective of your background. Nothing also stops an Accounting or chemistry graduate from becoming a medical doctor in as much as the person is willing to go to medical school and pass all prescribed exams.

At ICAN, our major issue with CIFIAN was the attempt of the promoters of the bill to regulate audit practice under the guise of forensic. Audit is part and parcel of the business of an Accountant and one must first become and Accountant before becoming an auditor.

If the promoters are willing to remove “audit” from CIFIAN, we have no issues with them.

And you think most people don’t spend more than 6 years before qualifying as ICAN member? You obviously don’t know much about what you are saying.

That's the global standard bro. Even in the western world, engineering and science students are easily allowed to delve into social sciences (including accounting) and many excel in it.

There are a lot of Chartered Accountant who after qualification studied Law, and vice verse, this is not a weakness but strength.

Oga this is not the truth. After God, I am where I am today because of the ICAN Certificate, in less than five years after qualification, my monthly worth moves from N50K per month by about 500% per month. The certificate has given me more than I have given it.

It's only in Nigeria one professional body will monopolies different disciplines .ICAN fought against establishment of Chartered institute of management accountant of Nigeria. In UK as u know there are ACCA, CIMA and other professional accounting bodies. So why didn't ACCA stop the establishment of CIMA global .This same jack of trades partners with CIMA global but would not want CIMA Nigeria to come on board.

Who are the promoters CIMA Nigeria? What is there pedigree in the Accounting profession? What exactly is there intention? What are they bringing on board other than what ICAN currently offers?

ICAN members worked assiduously for the birthing of CITN only for the body to introduce an exclusivity clause in its act to stop ICAN members from tax practice. It took over ten years of litigation up to the Supreme Court before the two bodies could grudgingly reach a partial resolution. We cannot afford to make the same mistake again. Just like audit, management Accounting is part and parcel of the Accounting profession. We won’t allow some disgruntled elements to take it away from us.

ICAN and its members are enemies of progress!

ICAN vs ANAN
ICAN vs CITN

Yet they can't press it upon Nysc to stop posting its graduates to places where they're not fully engaged just as NMA AND COREN.....

Why should we have multiple Accounting bodies in the country?

Banking, Finance and accounting has multiple specializations.

ICAN didn't cover all the nitty-gritty of Banking/Finance

For example most Banker are accountants but they must have CIBN to work on the Banking sector.

Same applies to Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers.

Studying accounting in school does not make you an Accountant, and Bankers are not Accountants, it is a different profession from Accounting, that is why you have Banking and Finance in Schools.

Don't mind that body who only think of money and nothing more. What do you expect where their members didn't have B.sc accounting

This was given as an illustration to buttress my point that giving people irrespective of who they are the opportunity to study, pass, work and become an Accountant is a strength and a plus for ICAN.

Note that before you can be called a Chartered Accountant, you must have studied and passed the examination of different stages which can take a minimum of 2 years and an average of 5 years to complete, you must have worked under a Chartered Accountant for 3 years and certified okay.

If that is the case they should stop awarding degree in accounting since it makes no sense allowing flexibility. For you to be called a doctor you must have the basic knowledge of science before proceeding to the medical school, then you write various qualifying exams. And to those saying it took them 20 years to be chartered, it rare to see such in the medical profession. The truth is that it became flexible because of greed for money nothing more nothing less
