Really, I thought the name of the river is Ogun. The river is common noun of all rivers.

I think you can isolate the "Ogun" as the name of the river and establish that "Ogun" is the name of the river that passes through Ogun state.
you can't. Is Benue same thing as river Benue or Niger and river Niger are the same

You're very wrong, and I'm sure a real Yoruba person understands this

Some of the vowels in the words would have to be two to have the correct spelling and sound, so get your facts before posting such thing online.

More so, in some of these words, the alífábéétì won't be together as you wrote them.

OP, O GUN - she pounded. .. like to pound yam.

The O gun can also go both ways for pound or stab, e.g he stabbed, he did not stab. He pound, he did not pound.

cool

Some of these are wrong, mostly when you put the yoruba alphabetical marks (ami)

Medicine/Charm is...Oogun not Ogun. Its ami is (do do do)

Sweat is...Oogun not Ogun. Its ami is (do mi do)

Climb is O gun...not ogun. Its ami is (mi do mi)

Long is o gun....not ogun. Its ami is (mi do)

******Others are correct and what differentiate each is its ami

War/Ogun...Its ami is (re re)
State/Ogun...Its ami is (do do)
God or Iron/Ogun....its ami is (do mi)
Twenty/Inheritance/Ogun....Its ami is (re mi)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Check this out too...Same word (Igba) with 4 different meaning

Igba with ami (re re)…meaning 200
Igba with ami (do do)….meaning time
Igba with ami (do mi)…Garden egg
Igba with ami (re do)…A rope used for climbing palm tree

Igba - re mi - calash

But the name of the river is Benue, the river in Niger is also called Niger, the river in Osun is also called Osun.

I believe that those arr the names of those rivers.

Your contrary observation is noted and well received sir.

However take out the "sweat", "climb" and "stab". Add the "river", you will still have nine (9) interpretations of same word. That is still amazing.
Add Ogun (doh/reh) - Depth/height

As you can see below: The "Ogun river"

How you dey?

Some of these translations are not single words and some are spelt differently. The main difference is in pronunciation.

1. Ògùn............the SW Nigerian state
2. Oògun..........Medicine / Charm
3. Ogun.............War
4. Ògún.............God of Iron
5. Ó gún-un.......He/She stabbed him/her/it
6. Ó gùn-ún.......He/She climbed (or rode)
7. Ó gùn............It is long
8. Ogún.............Twenty (synonym okòó)
9. Ogún.............Inheritance (same as above, different context)
10. Òógùn..........Sweat

So, my friends, it ain't one word. Only two instances use the same word.

I wish people will really learn Yoruba.

Olamide and his goons are actually destroying the language, not propagating it.

thanks guy. hope u are doing great

I am not surprised at the ignorance of the poster, even the so called yorubas do fail the subject when it comes to grammatical rules governing the language.

The words have different stress pattern, a year of NYSC is not enough to understand such details even if you dedicate the whole of your service year to learning it.

Words like that are what makes rhythm in Yoruba sweet and captivating.

I believe other languages have their attractions as well.
