And now after listening to cries from numerous customers to provide them FREE CHANNELS, Dstv recently introduced the DsTVFreeView for all its customers. This simply means upon the expiration of your subscription, you can still view local channels, some news stations and religious channels.

Here is an excerpt from their customer care rep on facebook.

"As part of our commitment to constantly improve the DStv subscriber television viewing experience and options, we recently launched 'DStv FreeView'. DStv FreeView is a bouquet that remains active, when your paid bouquet account expires. When you are disconnected, you will still be able to view the local Free to Air channels like Silverbird TV, NTA, Channels etc, as well as a selection of other religious and educational and news channels such as Mindset Learn, Inspiration TV, Islam, NHK, CCTV etc. In total you can still view over 15 TV channels, and listen to 30 radio channels absolutely free, even after your subscription has expired."

Looking at the above, can anyone tell me why I should pay N3,500 a month for HITV or N2500 for MYTV when I can pay the same N2500/month for DSTV family and get a whole lot better channels and view these stations free when my subscription expires?

HITV,MYTV and others had better go back to the drawing board as DStv is going for the KILL.

Hi, this is a comparism between paytv operators in nigeria and who gives better value for money. Not many people have the time or space to erect and be turning numerous big dishes like a military command  center.

I too would like to enjoy  FTA like you but i dont just have the time or strength. Thank you.

Aieromon, these might not trip you much if you stay in lagos but those of us outside lagos or people who live in lag but travel/move elsewhere in the country can now enjoy some of these best local stations in the country. Believe me I felt the absence of good local TV when I moved to calabar where we have like 3 stations all state goverment owned and the other from equitorial guinea. Most states in naija have terrible and few TV stations this to me is a welcome relief.

Also, dont you think its better to have access to at least these few good stations when your subscription expires instead of the old regime of having total blank screens? i've had a situation when my subscription expired on a 4 day public holiday, boy I was desperate for any channel to watch.lol HiTv doesnt give free channels, in fact they dont even have these terrestrial tv channels on their bouquet, MYTV has only AIT and silverbird and you only get it when you pay 2500 but now with Dstv, not only do you get these channels in addition to other quality stations, you get them for free.

Imagine the thousands that will get hooked on dstv with this addtional frrebies.

In case u dont know, d 32 DMX radio stations alone is worth doing dstv over and above
hitv, mytv,etc. Come to think of it, did hitv ever over anyfree station at the expiration of monthly subsc?

Probably not possible, they may go they way of sky freeview which requires a sky subscription or sky freeview card to watch those channels.

With the sky system when your subscription expires you are left with the freeview channels, alternatively you can purchase a one-off sky decoder and freeview card to watch the channels for life.

without the card you can't see the freeview channels, I suspect it's the same system DSTV wants to apply. Just my humble opinion.

Hi, I dont think its possible bro. These channels are still encrypted by DSTV and u still need their Decoder and smartcard to  access them. Its just that all Dstv smartcards will be able to decode them without any payment.

Look Mr DSTv marketer, I just got a dish-less cable Tv decoder (STARTIME) for just N1000/month to give me about 40 channels.
So what on earth has DSTv offered now that is too much?

All these people - Cable Tvs and Telephone -companies - are just milking fat Income from average Nigerians.
Our leaders too are playing ignorant because most of them do not pay for these services.
Any way, thanks to DSTv for relaxing their tight hold on the masses.

Now for your startimes, last time i looked around startimes does not exist outside lagos and good for you you were able to get a good deal on startimes, lucky you but less than 2% of nigerains live in lagos.
