INTRODUCING GEOMETRY
Satellite antenna, dish, as popularly known has ENJOYED warm acceptability, MOSTLY among NLders.interesting. why don't we (individuals) start making our own dishes, to our tastes within the permit-able parameters. the theory is simple and the analytical aspect is straight forward. i have to apologize for coming late on this page of NL and very ready I am to assist anyone willing to be part of the exploit. Maybe the moderator shouldn't consider PART 5 as last, after all.HINT: It is simpler than you could ever imagine. Ready or not, !?Can we start right now?

^^^ yes! what are the needed materials relative to the variety of dish types eg. for fibre, what do we need to start. for pan it's obvious it's gonna be "metals", what are the types of metals? as for the geometry in it you are the guide.

fiber-glass is the best material for DIY satellite antenna,so, if you are doing one;
prepare these;
1) resin,
2) fiber matte,
3) catalyst,
4) accelerator,
5) aluminum foil,
6) paint.(dark ash) or grey.
before all these materials mentioned above, you need a painstakingly constructed mold based on your chosen size. usually made out concrete.
for better illumination of your antenna, keep your f/d ratio between 0.35 and 0.415 for a prime focus lnb. i have been playing within 0.39 and 0.41.
Can you plz. specify your size of interest ? i hope i'm near answering your quiz. or if there are other things u might need. cheers

those materials are readily available and prizes are reasonable, only occasionally when when there are scarcity, a typical Nigeria market situation, that you have prize hiked. For PH terrain i may not be able to define fiber glass market absolutely but i guess the difference shouldn't be much compare to what we experience in LAGOS.
as per steps and pix , the are on the way. plz, i'm simplifying the process to it make understandable to all.

most satellite antenna employ the principle of PARABOLA, the equation is y^2= 4ax,
y = radius of your dish, i.e , half of the wideness of your dish,
x = depth i.e , how deep is your dish,
a = (f) focal length , i.e , how far away from the center of your dish must your lnb located,
4 = is a mathematical constant.
for the equation , one can rewrite ,; y^2 = 4fx.
try the curve fittings on a piece of paper, start by making x the subject of the above formula i.e , x =y^2/4f.
just like your everyday elementary school days graph, draw a chart of two rows and first column for x and y
remember that y is the half of your dish (PARABOLA) ,find different values of x at varying values of y in the equation.
for instance, if you have chosen to design a 2m dish, i.e 200cm, vary the value of y @ say 10cm intervals, the you have 20 points to be linked on your curve.
can anybody try this and let see what he has. it doesn't hurt at all to try. , as easy as chicken soup. let's go.!
i suggest you chose a scale of 10:1
HINT; y^2 means y squared  , that is, y raised to power 2.

I am Not a maths geek, this is my result with the use of a graph software. x=y2/4f where my desired f (focal length) is 7 representing 70cm, using the scale 10:1 is right.

Is the focal length f is the distance between the focal point to the bottom of the dish or the center of the brim?

if it's the dish you are refering to, then focal length is the distance between the reflective surface (i.e if it were a concave mirror, I would say the reflective surface is where you see your image) and the point where all the signal converge strongly.
In the second attached file it is indicated / represented by the red line.

^^^THE FOCAL LENGTH IS THE DISTANCE YOUR LNB SUPPOSED POSITION AND TE DISH CENTER. NOT THE RIM(APERTURE) CENTER.

i'm more than impressed with your determination and what u eventually came up with. i am quite sure u can feel how easy things can get when u are determined. Now,using ur graph software. hint; adopting same scale i.e 10:1, specify your actual dimensions on both axes.remember same scale on both of them.plz, u can call if anything seems confusing, +348033926638 (08033926638). then determine what u have as ur focal length and subsequently ur f/d ratio. I am waiting.

Please which shop must one go to for this materials, can one ask in a building material shop or can I try this ppl selling plaster of paris for sealing building?
Im sure d bigest wok wil be on d mould, please step by step guide needed here.
Maybe afta this fiber glass one, u suld please try and help on d metal type, most people wil be interested n this.

Those things are available, mostly where chemical substances are sold,if there any in ur area. as for the metallic fabrication; it is a little bit difficult playing with steel, aluminum, etc than fiber glass materials that are liquid and semi solid before curing. fiber glass is easier when you get ur mould right !
