It makes no sense to arrest these people. They will be locked up and bailed out within 2 weeks only for them to go back and continue their nefarious activities. The military should bring back the days when armed robbers were shot every Saturday at the national stadium.

Echidime:

So after 24 hours of the military taken over the Enyimba city Aba, they are still unable to find the kids and deal with the kidnappers? This shows really how Igbos are strong militarily,is a shame on the military,24 whole hours and small boys are beating them silly. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

I think you watched a lot of Rambo movies growing up.If it was that easy to find where the kidnappers are hiding those kid, what makes you think the won't have raided it.

Is just a question i ask,is shocking to me how a country military can't fish out this criminals in 24 hours of taken over the city, what will happen if the whole zone declear another civil war? grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

They are not in Aba to raze the city down. Wish them luck in finding the kids rather than your idle fantasies about another civil war.

Good Morning people, didn't sleep well as things got a bit tense lastnight. Hopefully, i'll find a way of getting to owerri today, by His grace. . I want to thank all those who've been updating us.

Some of the locals here are helping the army with possible locations of these kidnappers, a sweep was done on one of the hideouts lastnight but yielded nothing. We are still hopeful.

God be with us all and Happy Independence undecided sad

Abagworo:

Some good news from thisday

He announced that the kidnappers were being pursued by soldiers,  adding that two camps of the criminals had already fallen at Ogwe  Ugwati Asa in Ukwa West local government. Security sources said over 40 suspects were arrested in yesterday's operation. Orji said the amnesty he announced on September 23 , 2010  was over as  the criminals had intensified their nefarious activities instead of  embracing the amnesty and be rehabilitated to be useful members of  the society. "We are no longer talking amnesty.
Orji should just shut up his mouth & allow the militi to do their job, where has he been all this while. What yeye amnesty is he talking about.

Re: Breaking news: Army Have Taken Over Aba! by Abaabuser: 9:42am On Oct 01, 2010
Yes, the kids has been rescued but all the same there are still more victims hidden in various bushes within Obokwe, Obegu, Umuekechi etc therefore the solders should continue with their mission .

Kidnapping and all manner of criminality has been going on in Abia State and the STUPID Gov'nor T.A. Orji was busy talking amnesty with criminals. What non-sense!!!

Obama should also call Osama for amnesty.

WE THE ABA RESIDENCE STRONGLY ADVOCATE FOR DECLARATION OF STATE OF EMERGENCY IN ABIA STATE.

@manugbo pls keep up with d good job.
Re: Breaking news: Army Have Taken Over Aba! by Olumogun: 9:47am On Oct 01, 2010
when the army is done with this dirty job, who do they hand over the security of the state to again?

the governor who do not know what to do b4 now
the police who are not equipped to face the kidnappers/robbers?

will the security of the common man on the street of Aba not be back to square one?
GOD HELP US.
What a way to celebrate 50years Anniversary

`The leaders of these terrorist groups in the likes of; STONE, PAPA, OSISI KA NKWU, OYIME, ONYE ARMY etc should be tracked/arrested and driven round Aba city for all and sundry to see especially the youths so they will know that crime doesn't PAY.

They should also be made to expose their sponsors both in the police, traditional councils etc before being publicly executed at Aba Stadium or Okigwe road primary school in the way it used to be done because these bandits with their boys have really killed a lot of innocent people.

Kidnapped Nigeria children freed in police operation
Map

A group of 15 children kidnapped in Nigeria's Abia state earlier this week has been released, say police.

They were rescued by security forces from a forest hideout, Commissioner Jonathan Johnson told the BBC.

Armed men seized the children from a school bus in the town of Aba on Monday - they demanded a ransom of $130,000 (£81,500) but later lowered the amount.

Mr Johnson told Reuters no arrests had been made and he was not aware that any ransom money had been paid.

The children, who were aged between three and 10 years old, were rescued from a hideout in the forest in Ogwe-Asa in a joint military operation, he said.

They are in police custody and will be returned to their parents later in the day.

The BBC's Fidelis Mbah in Abuja says some 5,000 extra soldiers have been deployed to the area to prevent the kidnappers from escaping.

The government will not allow a few disgruntled elements in criminal garb to hold the entire state hostage”

End Quote Theodore Orji Governor of Abia

There are roadblocks in Aba city centre and many shops and businesses which had shut down following the abduction, fearing further attacks, remain closed, says our correspondent.
'Gold-diggers'

The governor of Abia state, Theodore Orji, had in recent weeks offered the gang leaders an amnesty in return for giving up weapons, but on Friday he said it was cancelled.

"These kidnappers are mere gold-diggers, whose resolution and trade ambition is to make easy money and to secure the betterment of themselves alone," he said.

"The government will not allow a few disgruntled elements in criminal garb to hold the entire state hostage.

"Government has been challenged, and we have decided to take the utmost measure available to implement the might and weight of government's forces."

President Goodluck Jonathan had described the kidnapping as "callous and cruel".

Abia state has seen a rise in hostage-taking recently and many middle-class Nigerians travel with armed escorts.

The hostages tend to be released harmed after a ransom is paid.

Kidnappings in the region are carried out by criminal gangs seeking a ransom, but also by armed groups demanding a fairer distribution of oil revenue in a country flowing with oil but where most people live on less than $1 a day.
