Good day nairaland fam, please I need help from gurus here, just got a refusal and the 3 reasons where:
1. Insufficient funds to pay tuition for my the duration of my proposed program.
2. Insufficient funds to pay transportation cost to and from Canada for myself and any accompanying family member.
3. Insufficient funds to maintain myself without working in Canada.
I never knew this refusal can be so disheartening, gosh! embarassed lipsrsealed
Submitted online 17th July for MEng civil engineering, had a BEng in civil engineering with 2 years experience(self employed with CAC registration).
Tuition fee for entire program is 30k CAD (I already Paid 4k CAD tuition deposit)
Sponsor is elder brother with account balance covering entire tuition plus living expenses for a year. I did not include my personal account statement as at time of application due to a very low balance and inflow. Could it be just my account that is the problem?
PLEASE WHAT MAY BE WRONG WITH MY APPLICATION?
SOMEBODY HELP! I NEED UR URGENT AND EXPERIENCED SUGGESTIONS. Thanks

Yes not adding your account killed your app as regards to the refusals reasons. Also minding your age which you didn't state, you should have your own money.

Extremely complicated question. There are so many rules and policies regarding applying outside your home country. But non the less it's possible. Do your in depth research on it.

Hello, I don't think he not adding his statement of account is 'what killed his application.
Insufficient fund could be from the side of the sponsor especially if he/she have dependent(s). To the moniker, if re-applying soon, get a Co-sponsor, and age shouldn't be a problem if you can explain any study gap.

Hello House,
Bravo to the Gurus for the good work they are doing here.. Pls I will like to ask if a lump sum in the account can be explained as deed of gift with proper documentation for that. Someone used this for the Canadian express entry stuff and the permit was granted.. Will this suffice for student visa?.
Waiting for your response..

It will also be nice if your sponsor can transfer 10k CAD to your account as a commitment and your up keep for a yr.

Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by raymege: 8:45pm On Aug 26, 2019
The reasons clearly are related to the financial aspect of your application.

Adding to what others suggested, I think you should add the following :

a letter of support from your sponsor;if that was not provided earlier.

Considering your account isn't very strong, you could demonstrate financial muscle using Assets, properties; acquired or inherited. This will also serve as home ties.

Also, you should detail why and what your Brother stands to benefit from supporting your education.

Furthermore, detail how many dependants he has and explain how financing you would be sustainable for him and not turn out be too much of a burden on him.

In addition, you may need to include his payslip, employment letters, business docs etc to show some sustainability & consistently in his financial position.

Lastly, since you are self employed you should add your tax papers, contract papers/agreements with your clients,LPOs etc if available.

Better luck next time.

Hello House,

My sponsor has some funds in ARM money market which he has access to anytime. Which is better to liquidate it or to leave it and get a reference letter from them.

That's what he intends doing. Please advice

Hello All the Gurus in the house, I saw this somewhere and pls I want your response to it:

Don't Apply For Study Visa To Canada If Its Not Your Intention. Here's Why

Two years ago, two different people wanted to study in
Canada for their masters program

But between you and i...

They wanted to use that process to integrate
with the country and get permanent residence
once they are done.

Now here is what happened.

One got it...

The other one got denied.

Now the issue was not because the other
one was not qualified.

In short... The guy that got denied was much more
financially capable than the other guy running into
several tens of million in the bank account.

Now why is that

This is what happened.

The reason why the first guy that got his visa
granted two years ago was his age...

He's in his early 20s...

22 years of age with a First Class Degree

The second guy is a 34 Years old with a Second Upper
degree that has graduated over 10 years ago here in Nigeria

You see.

Its one thing for you to get admission to study in
any Canadian university.

Its another thing for you to get the visa from
the canadian government at the embassy

It may surprise you to know that The School and Embassy don't have anything tied together! In other words they both don't have any control over each other and they do their work separately.

Look, Canada knows that people are looking for alternative
ways to come live and work in their country and they
are saying this to everyone.

We want you to come to canada and live happy,
But you just have to go through the right
channel of how its done.

And one of the channel that the Canadians don't accept is if you
are saying you are coming to Canada to do your masters after
you have left school a long time ago and now above 30...

They will deny you.

Take it from me.

Chances of you getting this is simply 1 in 100.

The only people getting visa to study their master are those that
recently came out of school with clear distinctions and
want to simply further their education.

Now i know that those people applying for study permit are
doing so because they want to use that to also get residence

Here is my advice.

Go through other process of relocating to Canada legally.

They are not stopping anytime soon

Go through the process of either going through the
Federal Skill Program or the Provincial Nomination program. Work Permits and Visit Visas. Direct Employment Packages are also there.

It will work out.

All you have to do is to plan it.

Even if you have been told that you cant go
with your current criteria...

Look through other means even if it will cost you more money... If you are serious
Plan for it.

If had seen this before i applied, or i saw this after i was refused, having applied at age of 31 as NYSC corps member, I would probably have been totally discouraged to apply/reapply for a
student VISA given that i was given "FULL & EXCESS" Scholarships.

Thank God for "Grace" and wonderful people in this platform that joined their morale with mine to reapply asap.

It is on the strength of the above that i want to encourage anybody of any age, status or background that there is no height too high for them to attain, only if they believe the "I CAN" in them! Forget protocol, God has the hearts of the Vo(s).

BELIEVE IN THE GOD YOU KNOW, AND PUT UP AN APPLICATION TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY (Do your best and dont leave any stone unturned).

If i was Given Study Visa with just 1.1M in my personal account as a married Corps member through the Grace of God, you also can get it!

I pray miracle that boycotts protocol will locate all TRV and PR hopefuls and you will come here to testify in Jesus name.

PEACE i leave with you!

purpose of visit refusals can be tricky and sometimes can be linked with various clauses. The most popular reasons for purpose of visit refusal are down to:

1. Incoherent, poor and Vague Study plans (SOP)

2. Applying for a program that could otherwise be done locally in Nigeria.

3. VO not convinced the proposed program is of a reasonable expense.

4. Applying for a program under the same credential as your last qualification. I.e applying for another msc program or bsc program.

5. Applying for a program otherwise lower than what your previous credential qualifies you to apply for. Sometimes it's possible to get away with it but different VOs with different evaluations.

6. Applying for a program that doesn't correlate with previous work experience and education credentials. Etc....

POV refusals are tricky and can otherwise be broad. Pinpointing the exact clause is important in reapplying.

Yes you can, it is specified by CIC that you need to explain any lump sum deposit. Also the person providing this funds/gift must be identified.

Great news for international students unfortunately Nigeria didn't make the list of countries to benefit from the new scheme

Canada’s new five-year international education strategy is calling for greater diversity, innovation and global ties.

The federal government’s strategy, released this week, recognizes the strong presence of international students in Canada, noting that 570,000 foreign study permit holders contributed over $21 billion to the Canadian economy since the start of 2019.

A key aim of the new $148-million strategy is to increase the variety of source countries for international students. It has pledged almost $30 million to diversify recruitment efforts in this domain.

As is, more than 50 per cent of Canada’s international students come from China and India, and they are concentrated in large cities such as Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver. The strategy’s expanded recruitment efforts will target Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Morocco, Turkey, France and Ukraine.

The strategy also aims to diversify where international students study in Canada, thus bringing foreign talent to locations that usually receive fewer immigrants than large urban centres.

Canada offers world-renowned universities such as McGill, in Montreal, and the University of Toronto, both of which are popular with international students. Smaller universities such as the University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge, Alberta, or Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops, B.C., may also be an attractive option to those looking for a more intimate post-secondary experience.

The Minister of International Trade Diversification, James Carr, said international students stimulate innovation and develop cross-cultural competencies.

“If [students from abroad] choose to immigrate to Canada, they contribute to Canada’s economic success,” Carr said in a statement. “Those who choose to return to their countries become life-long ambassadors for Canada and for Canadian values.”

Another element of Canada’s international education strategy is an investment of nearly $100 million in Canadians studying overseas, focusing on groups that historically have been denied such opportunities such as Indigenous people, low-income and people with disabilities.

Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship, Ahmed Hussen, said that international students are “often ideal candidates for permanent residency,” in a statement from the International Education Strategy.

“The strategy builds on the attributes that have made Canada a destination of choice for international students: strong schools and programs of study in both English and French; welcoming and diverse communities with an enviable quality of life, and opportunities to start careers and pursue permanent residency,” Hussen said.

I started this journey in 2017, paused for 2 years. And resumed again this year.

Don't expect anybody to give you loads of information. Everything you need is on this thread.

I read this thread from Part 13 - Part 16 back to back before I began my application. Also, I didn't ask any questions until about 4 days to when I was about to submit my application.

Special kudos goes to Frankrobbn1. Truely you are a God sent to this thread. Anyone who comes across you can attest to that. May God bless you bountifully!!!

I thought my application was tight until he vetted it. I was confounded and shocked when he said I was missing a plethora of things in my application. Frank literally opened my eyes that day. So I made the corrections he pointed out but I didn't get any confirmation from him whether my corrections were okay and I needed to submit my application.

So I PRAYED, PRAYED, PRAYED and submitted with faith in God

And now I can say my application was a success.

All thanks to all the gurus in the house who has inspired me and continue to render selfless service to people in this thread. Furthermore, my appreciation goes to the originator of this thread. It's indeed a blessing to have such thread like this.

UCI means Unique Client Identifier. It is a number given to applicants who have once applied for a Canadian visa.
