Critically looking at that scene, I don't think it's fair to say he was completely selfish.
I think he was in two minds there, trying to trick the goalkeeper into thinking he would pass to Musa. The keeper seemed close to the ball, so it would be easy for him to prevent the ball from getting to Musa if Ighalo had made the pass.
That's why I feel he wasn't necessarily being selfish. Perhaps, he was out of excuses at the moment or didn't know how to explain his misdeeds, that's why he claimed he didn't see Musa in the other end. I'm pretty sure he did Lol.

Please, he weighed his options and chose to shine instead... Even Mane of Senegal/Liverpool would have known better. You do such nonsense when you are already 2 goals up at least.

Ighalo maybe have been selfish but currently Nigeria do not have a better striker than him.

So
what has this got to do with anything?

If you keep wasting chances like this because you are selfish, the whole team crashes out of the tournament soon enough. Then it wouldn't matter anymore who your team's best striker is.

It is this his same selfishness that cost us the match against Argentina, that also ensured his ass was shipped off to China from watford

I watched the match and saw the replay a couple of times.
But I won't argue with you. We tend to be more emotional than critical at times.

You can’t be a good striker if you are not selfish

Simple. He was in a good position to score as well. As a striker he had no reason to pass the ball. It would have signalled a lack of confidence if he had passed the ball.

They should only chide him missing the target. But nobody should talk about passing the ball. angry angry

You didn't get it?

Ighalo may be wasting chances but there is no one in that Nigerian team that has a better track record as a striker.

It means we can't afford not to use him. We can only hope he improves.

That was too wrong of Ighalo. He should be careful not to get the Rashidi Yekini treatment. Football is a team sport and not a solo game. That pics alone speaks volume. Don't try this next time!

Oboi you be soldier?? grin

its not a case of selfishness or indecision, its more of how talented he is.
you can't give what you don't have, scorers must have a stint of selfishness, but ighalo isn't intelligent enough to deal with such balls. square play would have been the easiest route (quick pass to musa with acres of space) but he wanted to be extraordinary.
Our two fullbacks would deliver that ball in 3 seconds.
Ighalo isn't an intelligent player (just brawl n no brains) so don't blame him too much.

Apart from being selfish the goalkeeper was down, tip the ball up and is a goal.

does not mean you shouldn't tell him when he messes up.

No one is saying he should be benched. We are saying he was selfish, and in another game that could turn out to hurt our chances.

I have never for one day like that guy called Ighalo. Football is a game of common Sense. Don't shoot when u need to pass. Because if u shoot and u didn't score, u will be widely criticized

I will forgive him if he says he didn't see Musa than dis your lame argument. The keeper had already closed the space in that left side angle leaving the right side open for Musa. He's not Messi or Cr7. Even his attempt was off target What he needed to do was just to square the ball to Musa on the other side to tap in.... into the open net. Simple logic. Even later Musa tried to square the ball to him even in a more difficult play. He can decide to be selfish when we are winning by enough margin.

The same selfishness sent Brazil women team out of the world cup against France. They had a lot of opportunities to win when it was 1-1 but then selfishness said no.

Only the Coach has the right to tell the players how to play and not you or any other spectator.

Mind you , the coach may not agree with you Ighalo was selfish.
At the time Ighalo had the ball, he had two decisions to make, shoot the ball or pass to Musa. He decided to go for Glory and missed.

He is only doing his job. There is no guarantee either that if Musa had gotten the ball, he would have scored.

Ahmed Musa is far better than Ighalo, and he knows this. That is why he is trying to outshine him. Ighalo is not a good player. Made in China.

Very reasonable point of view.

If he scored the goal, people will be cheering.

If he passed the ball and it was intercepted , people will still talk.. oh why didn't he try to score.
