slick1: LOL. If you want an "excellent government", you will need to go to heaven. That is where individuals are excellent, and the government is excellent. I recall one interview where Chinua Achebe was asked why he made the protagonists in his books to have serious flaws. His reply was simple: "because I am writing about humans", he said. "Humans have flaws". There is no excellent government on earth, sir. GEJ government was doing fairly appreciably well on most counts. Unless we want to lie to ourselves, this was true. On the Human Development Index, his government was doing fairly well. This is what is most important to Sub-Saharan African states. You need to crawl before you start to walk. Despite this, he was hated and despised. Because, lets face it, of the tribal nature of Nigeria's current politics. The North (who feel power is their birthright) teamed up with the South West (who should know better due to Western education) and he was regime-changed. The Western world always wanted to remove an African government which is doing well for its people. From Nkrumah (CIA) to Sankara (The French) to Lumumba of Congo (CIA, Belgian Intelligence) the West always activate regime change when an African state is showing signs of heading towards true independence. They mistakenly allowed China and India to get away. They wouldn't allow Nigeria as that could have ramifications across West Africa and Africa. Nigeria was topping the economic investment charts despite Boko Haram’s violence and that was all the imperialists needed to go into panic mode. Obama, the UK and Clinton teamed up with the Northerners and South Westerners and the rest is history. Frankly, Buhari is a lesson which Nigerians really need. By the time this regime is through with Nigerians, tribal politics may go into a long stage of comatose. "Go harder Buhari!" is my conclusion. Nigerians need the lesson. Tomorrow when Nigerians see a PhD holder and someone whose secondary school certificate is in doubt, there will be no rationalisation or, according to a friend, "unnecessary big grammar". 4 Likes |

I'm not a fan of GEJ and never liked him but I think at this point we all owe him an apology. The hardship in Nigeria today is not Mai Mai nor is it Guguru and Ekpa. People are dying like fowl and hopelessness level is up up there, only God can save us. Buhari ended up making Jonathan a saint and thought us that there's no single learning in his head nor is there any good in his heart and he's incapable of attaining either. |

carchatz:When they protested, it was okay but now, this same protesters are calling for the arrest of anyone who protects. GEJ was a liberal man. He did warn us on what was coming but we wanted change by all means. Change has now gone to the next level. The world saw the back of Idi Amin Dada and Hitler. We shall see the end of this one too. Moreover, the demonstration then was led by APC stalwarts, where are the PDP hierarchy? They are the main opposition and so should take the lead the same way APC took the lead then. 1 Like |

Empiree: Not doubting that, but this government doesn't grant freedom not to talk of the absolute one. It's when you are free that you will ask for absolute freedom. This current government doesn't like criticism, yet they criticised previous governments. |

For those who became interested in Nigerian affair post 2015: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/01/12-killed-as-subsidy-protests-turn-bloody/ LAGOS – The nationwide strike action called by organized labour and its civil society allies against the removal of the subsidy on petrol practically shut down the country yesterday as workers in private and public institutions abstained from duty. The strike action which was peaceful in most parts, however, turned bloody in Kano, Lagos and Benin where at least 12 persons were killed in controversial circumstances. Two persons were reportedly killed in Lagos when a Divisional Police Officer attached to the Pen Cinema Police Station shot at some youths who took opportunity of the absence of traffic to play football along the road. The Inspector General of Police Hafiz Ringim promptly ordered the arrest of the DPO who he said should face trial for murder. Seven persons were killed in Kano while another three were killed in Benin during yesterday’s strike action that culminated in the shut down of banks, airports and the nation’s sea ports. In the midst of the strike, Finance Minister Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala disclosed that the government had not closed the door to negotiations even as she admitted that the administration as those before it was seriously mistrusted by Nigerians. One of the protesters killed in Lagos was identified as Ademola Aderitan, but the identity of the second who was said to had died later at the hospital from gunshot wound, was not known at the time of this report. Vanguard gathered that the death and injuries occurred after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Pen Cinema, fired shots to disperse some youths who were playing football in Ogba area of Lagos. But in a swift reaction, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Yakubu Alkali ordered the immediate arrest of the DPO, identified as Segun Olubunmi, Chief Superintendent of Police. It was gathered that the visibly angry Alkali, personally disarmed the DPO when he was brought to the command headquarters, Ikeja, before directing men of the State Criminal Investigation Department to whisk him to Panti for further investigation. All PDP governors, aides, social media activists, human right activists past and present are all mad. Why did i say so, APC party members including then governors, opposition party members etc were among the fools that supported the enof is enof protest hence there was enough mobilization to challenge Jonathan's regime but where are the pdp governors past and present, aides etc today, they all chicken out and hide cos their money and life is not yet threatened. They should rally resources and people to start a reasonable protest like d enof is enof protest and see if the govt can arrest that large number of people and also see if international media houses, UN etc wont interfere. |
