And believe me, there is something in the east aside poverty that we are yet to understand, but pushing youngs and adults into drug and fraud related cases than other regions in the country.

And that thing I think is this materialistic lifestyle.. young people displaying cars etc without any legitimate business or job.

The government needs to start arresting traditional leaders and pastors that celebrate these type of people..

hmmmm where do i start from? right before my eyes Nigerians were not like this - Nigeria was home to Ghana,SAs, indians , Arabs etc. Nigerians were not interested in' going abroad' ; Pentecostal churches were not deliberately mischievously calling ' mystical organizations ' secret cults- a deliberate poisoning of folks' minds to win them to untruths; no hate speeches even after the civil war , life was simple until ....it is a long complex story . A careful study of the elite's political approach to serious national issues, vis a vis the pre and post civil war realities; the effect of the military rule on democracy especially the IBB years where the seed of scam was watered and nurtured to a tree- the epitome of years of misrule culminating in the June 12 criminal annulment and the subsequent death of MKO under the nose of CIA of Clinton's administration; commercialisation of religious centres to the extent of stifling them of their esoteric essence, etc a dangerous socio-cultural and religious or rather spiritual disaster mix of poverty was born. And unless a mystic at heart leads Nigeria ,then the end to the journey may not be near. Ask me what country gets billions of dollars from oil proceeds but make sure her citizens go to bed hungry with no electricity nor any social amenities while keeping the oil proceeds in foreign economies and toilets? ehn!!!
scam wey don dey tey tey , I had a neighbor then should be in his 60s at the time ,tells us how they do scam oyibo people as far back as the early 70s using fax, nitel lines , carrying drugs and what not.

Truth is the scamming of a thing is more pronounced now because of massive unemployment of the youths , asides that oboy forget Nigerians have always been scammers

Must you guys bring in tribalism into everything you post here on nairaland just to get validations and likes?are everyone on that list igbo?Have you not heard about hushpuppy, investorbj, mompha etc?what is it that they do that's different from what these guys have done? Are they not being celebrated on social media by majority of the young in the country?Or is it because this guy had the guts to travel to the US?Have you not heard of Toyin Ibira, the famous drug queen who died recently?where is she from? The truth is this, majority of the young people in the entire country are either subtly or heavily involved in all manner of fraud, drug dealings and all and this is partly caused by the economy, the influence of social media and greed.I feel pained everytime I have to identify myself as a Nigerian to foreign friends even those from african countries and it is because of things like this which we need to collectively find a solution to and not trading ethnic blames. So stop attributing fraud to a particular region or state in the country when you don't have facts to support it. You're sowing a seed of divisiveness which is the only ingredient that the bad leaders we presently have need to recycle themselves and rule us perpetually.

Rubbish Presentation!
Nigeria problem starts from the kind of inverted mentality you have! I don't know why many of you can not just think straight just for 15 minutes. What is tribalistic in my submission? Is it by not calling a spade a spade that we are solving problem at hand? According to you "....you feel pained every time you identify with Nigeria...", Why? Because people have spoilt Nigeria, right! But who spoilt Nigeria than 99% of people from the land of rising crime, who left the sore of this country, they called "Shithole" to a "land of opportunity", but sadly could still not find opportunity, the only opportunity they found there, is about fraud and illegal drug dealings! If you can not solve Nigeria problem in your own little way, must you add to it? Am I the FBI that came out with statistic or Am I the Abike Dabiri ? In your own mentality, we should join you to cover crime that broke the record of America as largest in history? Don't you understand the damage and impact it have on legitimate individual who depends on online transactions or international connection for survival? How many evil do we want to cover up and for how long? If it were good record breaking, you will quickly claim it for Biafrans, but if it is bad thing, you will want everybody to cover you up and tag it Nigerian issue. It is a normal law of common sense that when you break record either positively or negatively, you must be recognized by getting standing ovation or abusing ovation. Stop calling it general Nigeria problem, this is a regional problem. 90% of the action must start from your region before all other region can carry remaining 10%. It is true that all regions in Nigeria have sizable numbers of criminals among them, but when a particular region begins to break local and international records than other regions in criminalities, then such region must be given "trophy of evil recognition". Don't tell me is because of poverty that they engaged in this rubbish, it is lack of moral values, other Nigerians are there who are poorer than them, but never take solace in fraud and criminality. What is bad is bad, stop hiding under the canopy that Nigeria leaders are the problem, this problem of fraud at moment is not about leaders, is about individual greed and moral decadence, they are not the only one being governed by the leaders. Change your mentality for better my brother, is not about tribe, is about finding solution to the root of the problem, so we can enjoy Nigeria together! Nigeria will be great again!

My sister, there is no two reason for this, it’s Greed. Every body wants to live and show off, come back to the village with big cars and impress their village people, to the shame of those who haven’t made it yet.

It’s the same reason Nigeria is very backward: more than half of those in power and privileged positions are only interested in filling their pockets and keeping the circle of power close to their caucus. Ever wondered why the same people keep rotating the different offices and portfolios? It’s just that Greed.

An average Nigerian is not contented with what he has. big kudos to every Nigerian who is living within the means God have graced him/her with.

My point is this-That they caught these guys and they're igbos doesnt mean that it's only igbos that do wire fraud or drugs abroad. Yorubas do it as well and I mentioned a few to you and can mention more. Stop associating crimes committed by nigerians abroad to a particular tribe. You are simply a bigot!

It was during my NYSC days I got to understand that the get rich quick mentality pervasive among Igbo youths is all built on the desire to show off back at home during Yuletide that they have arrived. As a corper serving in a NEastern state, there were these two fellow female corpers of Igbo origin with whom I got quite close on account of us being members of the same church denomination and attending the same parish in that town. Our batch's service year started in July. As Christmas was approaching, they went to market and bought about 20 different complete sets of dresses each. On asking why, they made me understand that each set of dress was for each of the 20 days they hoped to spend in their hometowns before leaving. I asked if it was really necessary. Then they explained to me that back home in the SE, a person who returns from the diaspora and wears a particular dress twice during his stay around is viewed by the home based folks as not being prosperous where he or she is based.

The time has come for other Nigerians Abroad to let the foreign countries know that it is not all Nigerians but the Igbos that commit most of this crimes. We all saw a viral video of a Malaysian interrogation where the police there clearly said it was the igbos bringing embarrassment to Nigeria and Africa. Let the people aboard know how to identify their names and let it be made mandatory that every Nigerian should carry an indigenous name in the country.
This embarrassment is getting too much.
Just last week this same tribe embarrassed us in Germany and made the German government write a stinker to our Fed. Govt. now this.
We could hear someone in the German video saying he was not a Nigerian but a Biafran,
Yet they are quick to insult other tribes as killers and skull miners
I tire for this people truly.

Funny enough, he has only Nigerian passport, and when he runs into deep waters abroad, the first place he runs to is the Nigerian embassy, and if help is slow in coming, he blames abike dabiri.
Lolz

wellmax:
Please let them have their Biafra. This stigma is too much. So much for developers.
In Nigeria, they claim Biafra, yet queue under d sun to get 'zoo' passport. They travel oversea, then claim Biafra but when poo hits d fan they suddenly remember their "Nigerian ancestry"

For where? Right now they've all gone into paralysis of the fingers, and d few who haven't are shamlessly defending/making excuse for their brethren. Had it been d other way round, u would've seen them in full force.

God forbid evil. I will never be an Igbo man & not even in my next life. I'm always contented with d little I have. Godliness with contentment is great gain. An average Igbo man is a lover & worshipper of money & can do any tin to make money. Nothing like patient in their blood. Life is about money to dem. They kill, shortchange, destroy, steal, fake.

The Igbo race is ingrained with a money culture & d most laziest in Nigeria cos they're always looking for short cut to wealth. If them not use their relative blood, other people blood go suffer put. Yorubas are wicked in d love of money but Igbo people are number one.

there has been scam from the beginning of man's socialization and in Nigeria since, no doubt, but was so negligible that it wasn't even known unlike the embarrassment we started getting when thieves in shagari's government held sway,or when a d baron became our state of head- ask Dele Giwa .
