Who introduced decree 34?

Degree 34 does not mean an end to regional government n resource control...It is a unification of the Nigerian civil service and unification of police, Armed forces n paramilitaries across Nigeria.

From the day Aguiyi became military heads of state u too the day he died, Every region (Provinces) had access to mine their natural resources, They kept back 70% of their resources n submitted 30% to the centre.

Gowon brought an end to regional govt n resource control in Nigeria.

Every sensible person with the knowledge of History know that

That is why some westerners said we should not do anything with the East because they are not reliable. The Igbo have not been fair to us at all. For instance, when Chief Awolowo met Ojukwu, he (Ojukwu) agreed that they were not going to wage a war. He (Awolowo) convinced him (Ojukwu) to go back to the round table and resolve the question of federalism. But no sooner than he (Ojukwu) returned to the East than he (Ojuwu) reneged on the agreement.

Exactly the same scenario before Ojukwu's forces invaded Benin City.
Col. Ogbemudia was the army chief in Benin while Brig Ejoor was guvnor, Ojukwu and Ogbemudia had agreed that Ojukwu would not invade Benin.
But before Ogbemudia knew it being unprepared, Ojukwu's forces invaded Benin City and took it.
Ogbemudia and David Ejoor escaped through Ore to Lagos to get federal help to confront Ojukwu's forces.
Gowon then assigned Ogbemudia with federal forces to liberate Benin from Ojukwu's forces. That's why Ogbemudia was made the guvnor of Midwest state after the war.

Awolowo might be a hero to Yorubas because he put the interest of his people ahead of personal interest but he is a villain to Igbos till forever. I don't know about who's saying the truth or not but a samlle of opininion from elderly Igbo men about Awolowo will leave you imagining who could be more cunning, treacherous and wicked.
Not might.. Awolowo is. If the Igbo folks see him as a villain, No problem. After losing such a hard war, it is very okay to find a scapegoat. Cunning and treacherous for engineering victory on the side he choose to stand with. How many people were scapegoated for the old Biafra..Banjo? ifeajuna? Even Azikiwe japa.

The most basic thing is that it abolished Federalism.. ..

Read:

Decree No. 34

[24 th May 1966]

THE FEDERAL MILITARY GOVERNMENT hereby decrees as follows:

1. Subject to the provisions of this Decree, Nigeria shall on 24 th May 1966 (in this decree referred to as 憈he appointed day) cease to be a Federation and shall accordingly as from that day be a Republic, by the name of the Republic of Nigeria, consisting of the whole of the territory which immediately before that day was comprised in the Federation.

Any mention of the announcement of secession without note of the genocide leading up to this (and just boiling down to a supposed ego of three men) is a heavily biased assessment.

Stop listening to twisted lies. It was ojukwu that released awolowo from calabar prison shortly before the war. And am sure there was agreement by them about leaving Nigeria into their own separate sates, maybe that's why Yoruba soldiers joined in the Biafra war and almost captured Lagos before ojukwu assassinated the Yoruba colonel leading the ore front. According to unverified reports, the Yoruba colonel leading the Biafra front had secretly made plans to declare a Yoruba politician president of Nigeria rather than separate from the country and that's why ojukwu had him killed thus making the remaining Yoruba soldiers abandon the secession struggle.
Was Awolowo a saint? Didn't he offer Igbo 20 pounds no matter what they had in their account balance? The 1966 coup planers also said they would have installed awolowo as president of Nigeria has they succeeded and that's why his arse was thrown in jail.

This is the only thing the man said that made sense
Anybody who is saying power should come back to the South-West (2023) is an enemy of Nigeria’s unity.

Of course we know.
Ojukwu agreed with Awolowo to pursue negotiation for federalism.
But before Awo could reach his base, Ojukwu had declared war on Nigeria.
Ojukwu's calculation is that the Nigerian government would assume that
Awo was in on the deal and would concentrate the military on the west.

If Ojukwu's calculations were correct, the FG would have declared war on the west first
on the wrong pretext that Awolowo's had declared war by aligning with Ojukwu. Thus, paving
a smooth path for secession since the government would be too busy fighting in the west to even
bother retaking the east.

Unfortunately for Ojukwu, his gambit failed and Gowon refused to declare war on the west even though
most of his advisers pressured him to do so.
can you show me a link were ojukwu declared war on Nigeria?

But it’s a bitter true that Ojukwu caused a war that the Ibos was not prepared or well equipped for. I ready Half Of A Yellow Sun times without number. During the war Ojukwu was only cheat beating and angry. There was no weapon to wage a war against Nigeria who had the backing of developed Nations. Ojukwu should have known that the war was avoidable in a round table talk but he chooses to waste the lives of the Ibos. The book also stated how he forced little children with no weapons to become soldiers to fight. It was a lost cause but stubbornness and lack of direction did not make him ascertain the basics of setting the issue on ground to avoid the war.
If Ojukwu loves his people as the Ibos claimed, he will not send them to a war he was not prepared for. A Pity.

I couldn't agree more. Ojukwu and Gowon were part of the Aburi Accord which came after he met with Awolowo. After the Aburi Accord, Nigeria did not keep to its bargain, innocent Igbos were still being slaughtered up north even as they left the North in droves and made it back South East. So please tell me, how on earth do you expect that Ojukwu would have still continued to uphold his end of the bargain when Gowon was not holding up his end by protecting the innocent Igbos who were being slaughtered by the numbers.

Ojukwu had no choice but to go to War. His hand was forced and he had to fight for the survival of his people.
Remember, the Igbos were never the aggressors. The coup was purely a military affair and should have been handled as such. It should have ended when Ironsi and co were killed in reprisal attack instead Northerners started attacking innocent igbos for no reason whatsoever.

The key takeaway for me from this interview is simply:

that restructuring Nigeria is the way forward and if restructuring can not be attained, we have to split and go our separate ways, status quo is not sustainable we are only deceiving ourselves.

And please as a sidenote, I am Yoruba through and through but I have the common sense to see a spade and call it such because I believe that the future good of my people, and the other people that make up this country Nigeria, is better guaranteed and assured in a restructured Nigeria than it is in the Nigeria of today.

It's was three power house. All independent of will and thought. The white man knew before hand it was disaster waiting to happen. So in other to create balance he weaved a system for balance for Nigeria amongst the three strong house. So he left with His hands in the air.

Igbos broke character first there nature of greed and pride could not let them stay at pal with everyone else. They had to lead. It was a nature of superiority at play. Something they have till this day. So they went and slay the prime minister. They said it was not an igbo coup but we all know the truth. It's was. The northerners knew it too.

There would not have been a call for succession or talk of biafra had ironsI led on. They were toppled by a counter coup. And from grace they went to grass. It was something there ego could not take. How they thought they would have taken on the might of north and west in a fight speaks volume of their courrage or ignorance depending on were one choose to see things from. One ordinarily would have been a hand full.

Even till this day succession is not there main aim. Under Jonathan they were not this agrressive..perhaps the feel was they might just sneak in after the Jonathan government. They west and north saw it coming so the obasanjos, atiku had to team up and break things and and realign. This has gone beyond politics petty politicking.

Poor ol naive Jonathan was in the mix not knowing what was hovering over his head.

If it has to be a hard linner like buhari that takes no prisoner, so be be it. The whole alignment was getting too loose. It was a risk.
