Please educate me, is UBEC and Education the same?
Very soon ASUP and ASUU strike due to under funding will crop up again.

UBEC is an Agency under the FME, they handle many aspects of things under the FME.
The Secretary of BEC reports directly to the minister of Education.

Forget new York, let us compare ourselves to our fellow African countries

http://www.oecd.org/tax/tax-policy/brochure-revenue-statistics-africa.pdf

tax to gdp ratio: ordinary Ghana achieves 17%, south Africa is 28%, common Togo is 22%, Nigeria I think is about 5% if we can just get to 10%, that alone is an extra $20-25B extra a year.

imagine what $20B extra a year (achieving just 10% tax to GDP) can do

in just 4 years, $20B extra a year ($80B in total) will complete our train netwrok, our main roads, and add add 20,000mw to the grid with money to spare for other projects. and we still have $20B extra for health and education, imp[roved salaries, police remuineration etc in subsequent years
The real problem with Nigeria is if we achieve up to that 10%, it will only reflect in more private jets at our airports, more yachts and longer convoys.

I am not a believer in depending on tax to grow an economy because it's technically not even possible , tax can only help run govt administration but to develope and economy and create wealth you need to devise ways to make money from other economies by harness factors of comparative advantage and exporting them ..Nigeria must learn to harness the abundance of such factors it has and start monetizing with exports immediately.

Develop what? The same Revenue that you agree is not even enough...Can you be more specific?

it is always easy to compare Nigeria with other advance economy, but ask yourself, how much does Nigeria worth? how much do we generate in a fiscal year, put in dollars. how much do we generate internally? how much do we sell in our oil? how many people are in our tax net and how many pays? what is the level of our corruption and that of those countries you are comparing us with?

And who's fault is that?

Nigeria does not spend in dollars so let's keep the expenses in Naira.

The Nigerian government should be blamed as to why everyone or some people are not paying taxes.

The level of corruption Nigeria is facing might be a hard one to tackle because it's done in every sector of the Country from civil servants to the people selling thing privately in the market.

And BTW, the 10 trillion Naira which seems to be this years proposed budget where is the money going to come from?

Locate and harness factors of comparative advantage we have for export gains .

Some of readily Available we have today are :

Populations

Petro Chemicals

Crude oil , gas & bitumen( there is so much more we can harness here )

Export Marijuana agriculture ( Marijuana is the next big cash crop on Earth and the sooner Nigeria keys in the better)

Open up ease of mining in the country so proper international mining firms can tap into it .

Nigeria has to be made export efficient for the wealth to come forget all this in-house taxation it can never make any nation rich

The problem is would government release up 60% of the budget, or if released would the money be used or goes to private pockets.

Sir, UBEC is an angency majorly incharge of the basic education sector ie primary and secondary schools in Nigeria. I think the money appropriated for the higher level education is not enough. It takes lots of money to properly fund universities, polytechnics and college of education.
Covenant university alone spend billions of naira to maintain and run the institution.
All our universities, polytechnics and college of education are not something to be proud of, if you ask me.
It need better funding much more than we appropriate in our 2020 budget.

Since UBEC was established how is its budget reflecting? Just substandard schools that politicians have been feeding off from for ages

But that's not even the main point, UBEC has been there since and until these high budget is replicated with results we can't say there is any commitment anywhere.

That being said, Basic Education is primary schools, I stand being corrected, except you're saying dey merged subeb and UBEC I don't see anything in the huge budget.

Primary education has always been what it is

Bros have you forgotten there is a feeding program ongoing. I see kids in my area go to school with food flask . These are parts of what is reflected in the high budget. Although we know that in naija everybody must chop

Don't forget that the budget is based on $57/barrel oil benchmark and N2 trillion naira deficit. There are too many unrealistic assumptions or do I say, outright gamble. Most na audio money sef.

Nigeria is a joke.

North East development commission with about two states has N38billion how many states makes up NEDC, whereas Niger Delta Development
Commission with about eight states are to share N81billion. This is unfair.

Niger Delta is big big problem child. This 81 billion Naira you see today, you will see no more with messy agitations and few poorly executed projects to show for it. SMH

NORTH EAST DVELOPMENT COMMISSION is Nigerian's drain pipe and problem child through which Nigeria money is being drained. N38billion is too much for a region that add nothing to the economy of Nigeria

Thats why roads are never finished and theres no cheap accomodation....ther is no money. We dont pay enough taxes, or we are not a rich country, take your pick!!!

we are budgeting 10T for total govt spending, SA is Budgeting 5T for education alone. their road maintenance agency (not construction o, just maintenance like FERMA) has an annual budget of $1.9Billion. But they pay tax on petrol, they pay tax on cigarettes, they pay tax on everything. you get what you pay for, you pay peanuts you get monkeys

Oga stop foaming from ur mouth. SA pays this heavy tax coz they produce next to nothing in their country. Nigeria exports sizeable amount of crude oil daily, what does its govt do with all the money gotten from the sales of the crude and other income generated from other agencies? You guys compare SA when it seems to favour ur narrative, forgetting the other aspect of the board

To whom does the water allocation go to please, because virtually almost every home / household provides water for themselves via borehole.

And I don’t see an allocation on Electricity either, means no hope in that sector then, so why waste money there , good one from oga presido,.
Bottom line , go and buy your own Gen.

I think the water allocation should be cancelled out too, since we all provide water ourselves ..

Allocation this , Allocation that, as if it will impact any change

Irrigation projects are part of water I guess

Just look at Education and Health

allocations for education and health are not even up to allocation for water. this is one of the reasons why health and education sectors are collapsing.

48b only for education? It's obviously the Fulani herdmen will take a bulk of the agriculture budget.
You have not noticed the 112billion for Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC)? Add that to the 48B for Ministry of Education and you will see that education as a whole is given priority.

You are farting with your keyboard, tomorrow you will say you are educated!!!!! Talking like a stark illiterate!!!! They produce next to nothing? Shame no catch you as you type that? See as you expose your ignorance to the world and disgraced your economics teachers and your family! Do you actually know what GDP is? How can a country of 60million people that produce nothing have roughly the same GDP as a country of 200 million people that have Oil and you say they produce nothing? Get some sense!

Anyway I can’t blame you, the low budget for education over the years was always guaranteed to produce ignorant people, garbage in garbage out!!!. Next time you go to Shoprite, pay attention to the number of products that are MADE in South Africa. Their manufacturing sector alone is bigger than our entire OIL industry. They have gold, diamonds and other DEVELOPED mining industries.. They have the biggest banks in Africa, standard bank alone is over 15 times the size of Nigeria’s biggest bank, Every time you pay for DSTV or MTN or pay to vote for B.B. eviction you are sending money to South Africa. They have no oil but they have sense, something you should try to get. They are the ONLY African country in the G20, sit down there and be saying they don’t have oil while you sink further and further into poverty because all you think of is Oil.
