In as much as we will all try to attack and condemn the lady for saying such, there is lot of truth in what she wrote, and I will explain:

Back in the days of our fathers, there was no GSM, no internet, no cable TV, so it was never necessary for a man or woman to own a mobile phone, buy internet data, buy airtime, pay for cable TV like DsTV or GoTV or Star Times, etc. In fact there was no need to have a fridge/freezer before you get married because there were electricity only in few parts of Nigeria, mostly the cities, and only less than 20% of Nigerians then lived in the cities, and maybe less than 5% of those city dwellers owned a TV set, a fridge/freezer.

There was no need to own a washing machine, only the elites did....there was no need for electric or gas cooker, no need to talk about owning a car to think of maintaining and fueling the car, only few elites owned cars.

Back then, all schools were government owned, private schools were seen as useless schools for dull people, and most government schools then were free, the ones that needed to be paid for were peanuts...so you don't need to stress to send your children to school, all they needed was school uniform and books.

Back then, there were very few private hospitals, all existing reputable hospitals were all government owned and well equipped and competent, today is different....to take care of your wife's delivery and children health, you must pay through your nose if they must get adequate healthcare.

All the reputable schools now are owned by private individuals, and their tuition is on the high side that, someone earning that amount she mentioned can never be able to send his children to any good school, sadly that's the reality not what we wished was the reality cry

Before you can get married today and have a relatively happy home, you may need to rent a 1 bedroom flat at least, you will pay for electricity bill monthly, buy gas for cooking, pay for refuse collectors, pay estate or community security which was free in our father's time, you may need TV, GoTV which also requires monthly subscription, you must own a mobile phone, including your wife, and who will be buying the airtime, the internet data, maybe Buhari

Honestly, to live a decent life in Nigeria or run a decent, modest home in Nigeria now as a married man, you will need around 200,000naira monthly income, which is why every Nigerian lady now should make it a priority to have a job or a business or a trade or something earning her legal money of at least 50,000naira monthly before she accepts to marry any man.

Gone are the days ladies bring only their body to marriage, ladies your body is no longer enough, you must bring some money too....a monthly income!!! angry

That guy that replied her and saying he is earning 57,000 and he is married with 2 kids, he should also tell people about other ways he earns money to augment his 50k monthly salary; or he thinks we don't know how corrupt majority of Nigerian civil servants are, collecting kickbacks, bribes, and engaging in all forms of office corruption to makeup their low pay

He should also tell us if he doesn't get one or two financial help from one of his big brothers or uncles living somewhere else either abroad or in another city, so let him STFU that income is not enough to run a family in today Nigeria!!

If you are not earning enough income to raise a decent home, pls stay single, its not a crime to remain single, it is a crime to give birth to kids u can't train or give decent life, they will grow up to become societal problem and easy tools for crime/violence which is why Northern Nigeria and in fact Nigeria is so messed right now!

Stop giving birth to kids u can't train or hoping for your uncle or brother or sister or aunt or friend to train them for u, the world has changed, this is not 1980!! angry

Thank you!

As for that Dr Udom's hypeman, he is one of Udom's unofficial social media activists. Certainly, he's not relying on only 54K and Uyo isn't an expensive city.

If the man is earning 50k monthly, the girl should have something doing that should be earning her atleast 25k monthly.
Both of them combined will be 75k and can be OK in starting a middle class family

Look at people up there criticising her.. But is she wrong though.. What kind of life do you have planned for your family if you not earning more than 50k honestly?

What is the woman's contribution then? We have so many immature people on social media.

If the man is earning #40 000 and the wife is earning #60 000. They can pull resources and have a happy home.

For me.. The statement has a lot of conditions in it to actually come to such conclusion. Your location, matters, your living habits matters, spending habit matters, the kind of woman you intend marrying matters, is she working and earning something that can sustain one of you.. And the big subconscious question I like to ask is.. Must you have children when you marry? If the last one is a certainty.. I guess the others don't matter much .. why.. Its a matter of time.. Poverty will be your second name.. Cos technically.. She is right.. But like I said.. There are other factors to consider... Especial the child/children factor... That's the harbinger of poverty..

Im a guy, and this is the truth. Atleast a guy must earn 120 while the wife brings in 30 anything outside this is poverty except they live outside places like lagos

Nonsense and ingredient.

Why must it be #30 000 for the woman?

depends on what you call living. we have a security maiguard we pay 30k the guy lives in a 5m x 5m room. he uses a public toilet and bathroom. he does have wife in his village up north though. so if your home is in the village, maybe. but 50k will not give you quality of life. feeding, rent, transport entertainment -

Clap for yourself....now, are you saying that the millions of single people living on minimum salary all over Nigeria have no quality of life?!

As much as you are entitled to your opinion, HERE IS MINE: A single person can definitely make it on 30k per month in Nigeria, therefore 2 single people bringing 30k+30k= 60k can make it NO DOUBT! The simple fact that living together will have them pay half of the rent each, proves that it will be better for each of them financially.

That is EXACTLY what I am saying. Maybe if you are living in a village. Nepa bill, transport, feeding, rent, etal, . Now add school fees.

You have not seen how some of these people live. Single family in one bedroom in a face me I face you.

Again, you are going ahead of yourself.... just because you guys live together certainly does NOT mean you should have kids. One step at a time, so you guys can certainly get married and live together and then GROW as a husband and wife, then upgrade yourselves as a unit....and when the situation permits it, have children or whatever.

Now, I don't believe there is anything wrong with a "face me I face you", if that's what you can afford then so be it. Life is all about levels, and everyone starts at the bottom. Your actions will determine whether you stay there or climb the "life" ladder.

Only the few lucky ones start directly at the top.

] A girl I met from here told me this yesterday lol. She did not know I had long gotten another girl.

In her words "I can't date guy that is not financially ready" lol.

She does not have even 50k in her bank account. While I who she is telling that has spent as much as 2M for different causes...

You might wonder why should tell me such.. Here is why? I didn't succumb to her major financial request and I told her I can't cos I have some issues to resolve. Making request when she is still telling me she need to think about the relationship.

So she felt I am I can't meet her needs.

I am typing this while at a park to make delivery. Woke up as early as 4a.m

My only problem is I give people too much and barely have any left for myself.

By God's grace I know how much make this month from my hustle and now determined to keep the tempo going while cutting people off.

This same person has never worked in her life for any money... All she has is giving to her by people, I included.

Its not my nature mock people with their predicament.

I had a lot I would have told her that could send her straight into depression. I kid you not but for sake of her condition, I restrained cos I know she is not as strong as she tries to claim or make you believe.

I am dating someone else already who has never asked me for dime nor gotten even 20k from me in comparison to the girl above who had gotten quite more... Plus the new girl is professional nurse in making while our madam didn't not even finish. She (the new girl also worked or often search for works during holidays.

I don't need a leech in my life for real.

May your days be long and fruitful.

It depends on the level of life you desire to live. It also depends if you have a progressive outlook on life.

There are those who can marry a guy with income of 20k and still be happily married. But it will definitely affect the kind of house you live in, the quality of clothes you put on, the kind of education you give to your kids.

But if your eye is on a more comfortable lifestyle like living in a flat, having your own car, your kids attending a very good private school, even a monthly income of 100k will not suffice.

The best way to cope with economic situation in Nigeria is to own your own business. Your salary in a company your work can't certainly be doubled within the same year but the profit from your business can grow to any level within the same year if you are good at the business you choose to do.

Meanwhile the Twitter lady is lazy. She should tell us how much she is earning. Gone are the days when the family responsibility rest solely on the husband.
