He will be fine. The same with my boy. We felt relieved when he started calling mama. Now he calls his brother like say na him give an that name. There is nothing wrong when you feel unhappy about that. Your boy may be a shy kid or you didn’t allow him to play with his peers early.

I heard an experience.
When my kid sister was 2 that year, she will talk, play and run around with her mate at the pre school but immediately school closes she pretends not to talk or walk, we later learnt that she was taking her time and just want to be carried all the time, until one day my dad bought ice-cream for her, kept it on the table and we all walked to the table and collected one each and was eating, before u say jack she stood up and and walked to the table her self and since that day, she starting talking and immitating what ever we say grin, she became a noice maker always shouting and singing badly and my parent where finally happy.

I assume he's the first child. It takes a while for some to speak, but in due time, all will be well.

Hello Guys,

Kindly assist. I have an 18months old child (1year 6months) but he is yet to talk.

He only makes sounds and gesticulates. He also hum when baby sings are being played or atleast tries to blab along but that’s all.

He has not said any real thing like daddy or mummy or anything at all.

I have met children who are not up to 1yr or even 1yr and some months already talking. This is getting me worried. Should I be worried

Parents pls I need your opinion on what I should do.

Mods kindly assist for broader suggestions. Beginning to get desperate.

Have you taken him to the doctor?

Take him there let the doctors examine his tongue area. When my mom told me that as a baby there was a tiny piece of skin between my tongue and the lower part of my mouth the doctor cut with his scalpel.

She said he told he that if he didn't cut it off then when it was time to start talking I won't be able to talk.

Just take him to a specialist or general hospital for examination. Sometimes some kids don't talk on time

Take the Child for a Cognitive Function Test.

Hard as this statement might sound, your child may be mentally retarded. Possibly Down's syndrome

Possibly Doen's syndrome? Are you outta damn mind? Are you ok at all? 18 months not talking and you attribute such a evil thing to it? Seen 2+ kids that doesn't talk until 3. For these kids, it's a gradual thing for them. Don't rush them. These happens mainly in male children.

Don't fight it. Daycare will help little but I tell you this, child will talk and be talkative later on. Pray for them too. Coming from a Psychologist.

Be sure it's not Ankyloglossia or other medical reason, if not, please give your child time, they do things at their time too.

Hahahahaha. What will you then say about my 2 year 2 month old who is yet to utter a word except bye?

He can hum to all the songs in my phone though and goes on little errands like fetch me my phone but he simply can't speak.

I don't think you should worry so much.

Well, my third kid wasn't talking at 1 year 9 months. He understood some words when spoken to and would respond. I talked to one mum and she advised that we enrolled him, we did that last month. Now, he's imitating everyone at home. You can do the same.

No problem,he wud start at his own pace. For my dauta as early as six month I started playing ABC videos to her on my phone. And by seven month she started blabing what she was hearing and soon calling dad and saying bye. Now 2yrs plus she virtually a talkative.

Stop disturbing yourself and that child, obviously he's not deaf and dumb, these things differs from child to child, some will walk early, some grows teeth early etc. Dont compare your child to anybody's because he is unique.

No problem, he is just taking his time

You can stimulate him by reading to him so he can see you moving your own mouth

I came across this suggestion too when I was looking up the issue online, but I realised that I couldn't do that for obvious reason. Lol

I dont think you have anything to worry about. As long as he hears and can respond to you and songs etc. He will be fine! Every kid develops at their own pace.
Cheers!

This guy is funny. My son is 1yr 4months. He's not talking. My wife is worried. I'm not. I remember my younger siblings, they didnt talk very fast. So, bro, it is ur family or when wife's family. The most important question is "is your child healthy?
