So what can Nigerians do for themselves without outside help? Please tell me. Is this not supposed to be an opportunity. Forget stock fish. It's an imported product that has been around since I was a child. Eat what you can produce yourself except your land, water, and knowledge cannot be used to produce it. I recently came up with a patented invention in a different field from my own professional area that solves a major problem in Nigeria that cost hundreds of millions of Naira or billions annually. The most perplexing thing when I sit down and think about the whole thing is that what are the so called professional in that particular sector doing about that problem. I tire for my people o. 1 Like 1 Share |

jesmond3945: You need land for fish farming. Yen yen yen yen yen be saying what you don't Know. Fishes don't live in rivers in fact you have to dig the ground to look for them. Sorry we plant fishes ode |

Re: Border Closure Causes Stock Fish Scarcity In Nigerian Markets by MoIbrahim: 9:07pm On Nov 03, 2019 |
I am saying you have completely lost direction in the argument. Go and check the first post that drove into wondering where Buhari is right now. Continue wondering, till you turn to wonderer Meanwhile... lexy2014:

Re: Border Closure Causes Stock Fish Scarcity In Nigerian Markets by Prymestrr(m): 8:48am On Nov 04, 2019 |
jesmond3945:I think not. When you say farming, that means you engage in the process of nurturing the fish from hatching to maturity just like catfish farmers do here in Nigeria. Up there in the north sea, I believe what they do is more of fishing from their seas and then processing (drying) for preservation and export. Although these arguments are besides the point. First question should be, do you have Codfish species in Nigeria/African waters The answer is NO!!! Another question is, can you domesticate the farming of Codfish? once again the answer is NO!!! Because the natural habitat of the codfish is saltwater i.e. oceans and seas. They cannot survive in fresh water unlike catfish. Therefore can not be farmed like you put it, in Nigeria unless you have the resources to replicate an artificial ocean water body for that purpose. PS: codfish is the living form of stockfish. codfish=stockfish |
Re: Border Closure Causes Stock Fish Scarcity In Nigerian Markets by jesmond3945: 8:58am On Nov 04, 2019 |
Prymestrr:it is still the same thing. Fishermen throw worms and seeds into the river sometimes so that they would harvest quality fish. Thats why you should come in as a specialist. Get a controlled environment where this kind of fish can thrive. We can invite foreign experts from norway who can train our farmers on how to grow and harvest such fishes. If it doesnt work, we do with what we have. There are many families who have not eaten stockfish but they do with catfish and its family. |

jesmond3945:you have a point. However, have you heard of the theory of comparative advantage? review that theory properly, then you will understand that it will cost Nigeria more to go into stockfish farming than it will cost her to import. We do not have that comparative advantage; resource wise, expertise wise or policy wise. |

jesmond3945: How many people can small scale farming feed? Lol |
Re: Border Closure Causes Stock Fish Scarcity In Nigerian Markets by jesmond3945: 9:29am On Nov 04, 2019 |
Prymestrr:well if thats the case we can dry our catfish and it becomes a staple replacing codfish. |
Re: Border Closure Causes Stock Fish Scarcity In Nigerian Markets by jesmond3945: 9:32am On Nov 04, 2019 |
Hairyrapunzel:it is called substinence farming and can feed a lot of people if properly managed. You can visit your local fishery department for more information. |
Re: Border Closure Causes Stock Fish Scarcity In Nigerian Markets by Prymestrr(m): 9:40am On Nov 04, 2019 |
jesmond3945:Lol...brotherly. Just the same way you can not drink semo or wheat with milk, milo, sugar, G.nut and cold water as if they are garri, is the same way you cannot replace stockfish with catfish. Stockfish is the bomb bro. Ever had it as Nkwobi the Igbo way? catfish can never give you that feeling. just like having hot steamy sex that you wish you will never cum |
Re: Border Closure Causes Stock Fish Scarcity In Nigerian Markets by jesmond3945: 9:43am On Nov 04, 2019 |
Prymestrr:look at this man then our economy will go to blazes because of individual preferences. If I am the President I would care about growing my economy in order to create jobs and not stockfish and the feeling it gives me. |
Re: Border Closure Causes Stock Fish Scarcity In Nigerian Markets by Hairyrapunzel: 9:48am On Nov 04, 2019 |
jesmond3945: How many people can this small scale farming feed? You just gave a political answer. You think fish farming is land farming? Let's be realistic here. You can't do small scale fish farming for a large population like ours even if it's properly managed. Show me a country that does small scale fish farming to feed it's fish dependent population? None. You guys just want to justify the hunger you have placed nigerians on. Fyi hope you know it's not only stock fish Nigeria imports? Mr small scale fish farming. |
Re: Border Closure Causes Stock Fish Scarcity In Nigerian Markets by Prymestrr(m): 9:53am On Nov 04, 2019 |
jesmond3945:Bro your economy have been blazing since time immemorial. Until your president changes his official vehicle to proforce, innoson or stallion model of vehicles manufactured or assembled within Nigeria, until he establishes our healthcare systems to international standards that he can domesticate his health tourism to any of the hospitals or medical rehabs centers in any state within Nigeria, until he stops vacationing in foreign countries but instead establishes various presidential vacation homes all around Nigeria just POTUS has it. Your economy will never get anywhere with this government's palliative measures. |

lexy2014:There is an agreement between Nigeria government and its neighbouring countries to concur on before importation of goods and services. The goods and services tend to import should be regulated because Nigeria is not waste bin as usual. |
