Back then in boarding school, me and my two friends were heading back to the hostel after night reading. One of my friends said he was thirsty and we escorted him to the tap where our Gp tank was, behind our hostel. It was dark and apart from the cricket noise everywhere was quiet. Deep down I was already feeling scared but since we were three in number, I said no shaking. When we reached the tap, I decided to also drink and my other friend also drank after me.
We we're waiting for this guy to close the tap, tap no gree close.

It was during my NYSC in the North. I just finished watching ball and entered my lodge around 10pm when Bandits attacked our estate and started shooting for close to 2 hours . I was the only one staying in 3 bedroom selfcon apartment because my lodge mates were batch B and i was Batch C. I was just shaking and ran to the ceiling and started posting for help on my WhatsApp status.. Seriously I wasn't thinking of any other thing that day than death.. I was so scared and half dead. I was crying like a baby... Thank God Nigeria police later came and sent them off. It was a massive shout out that night and tot its gonna be my last night. Those police and army tried dat night. It was my first time of hearing Ak47 at work.. It was so loud and intense.

Y'all know how plantain leaves looks like in the dark? That's what scared me when I was younger.

My compound was full of plantain trees and there was a day I was walking into the compound and NEPA did their job, everywhere became dark and the wind was so heavy that I ran inside to avoid the coming rain.

I ran past some trees before I got to the door......The door was unlocked but nobody was home, That was when the lightening started (Lightening scares me a lot) I looked into the dark plantation and thought I saw a figure. That moment i remembered a story I read about witches having their meetings in plantain trees. My heart raced, I couldn't run back outside as I had to pass between the trees before I get to the gate and I couldn't stay where I was or go inside {I was scared of staying alone in the house} .


That moment I told myself "All die na die" I ran through the trees like my life depended on it and stayed with people outside till my parents came back and we went inside.

I remember I couldn't sleep that night because I thought I interrupted the witches meeting and they were watching me angrily.

So last night I had a hilarious frightening experience which reminded me of one I also had in boarding school, so I said let me share both of them with you guys.

I live in lokoja, the GRA around the mount Patti area and my house is situated up on a hill and it's on the second to the last street. The last street is still not fully built so we are pretty much still surrounded by bushes and trees.

So me and a neighbour went out to watch the liverpool match Last night, and after the game my neighbour left immediately for home while I stayed out a little later. At around 8 I decided to head home also and decided to board a bike but any bike I stopped would refuse going up to my house because of its height and a fear of being jacked and/or kidnapped for rituals(old story that refused to die), so after sometime I decided to take the almost 30mins walk home.

Climbing the final stretch to my house I was the only one on the road but I wasn't afraid cos their was streetlights all the way. Getting to the last street before the bend that was my street the streetlights suddenly went off and the whole place was plunged into darkness, so I paused to bring out my phone and use its flashlight when a figure suddenly appeared from that street right in front of me and stopped, my spirit left me looking for where to hide, all my body became icecold and rooted to the spot when suddenly the figure started running up towards my street.

Now at this juncture I should have been happy the "spirit" was running away from me but my brain don mix and my body was in the suspended flight mode, but seeing the figure run loosed my body and I began running, not back where I came from but towards the running figure( we call it anywhere belle face run), in my mind whatever is making a spirit run is worth running from, when I got to the bend leading to my street power was restored and saw the figure in full light.

Well Ladies and gentlemen it would be my pleasure to announce to you guys that the "spirit figure" was my neighbour who went out with me to watch the match but left earlier to visit a friend before heading home taking a different route. All this was just about 15seconds or thereabout but it felt like hours, when I met up with him he was like "Guy wetin dey make you pursue me na" I just looked at him laughing and catching my breath and said " ah ah na me for dey ask you wetin dey make you run, if say God answer my prayer immediately Holy Ghost fire for don burn you since" and we all laughed to our various houses.

The second story.

Every Friday in school we hold a Christian prayer vigil with goes all the way to 3 or 4am on Saturday. On this particular day, We(my friends and I) went to the vigil and I started sleeping almost immediately after the praise and worship section. After being poked and prodded by ushers countless times I decided to head to the hostel and continue my sleep and as it turns out my friends too were also feeling sleepy so we all decided to go the hostel together.

The time was between 12am and 1pm when we left the vigil hall. There is this road between the girls hostel and the boys hostel that we took and it was overgrown with weeds on both sides but the moon was out that night so we had no problem seeing what was in front of us.

We had almost gotten to the hostel when we saw a white humanlike figure coming towards us and if you've ever been to a boarding school you would agree with me that it has a lot of spiritual stories, from the "miss koi koi" story to the "bush babies" stories and students being initiated into the spirit world with sweet and biscuits and being possesed by the spirit of "jinn", then coupled with us coming from a vigil where the prayer leaders have put the fear of God in you with their fearfull prayer points, so seeing that figure walking towards us made us stop, but the figure kept coming towards us.

With us was one of our friend who had a faulty leg so couldn't walk as fast as us and he was the one that started the race back to the vigil hall which made us all join him but when we looked back to know whether the figure was still behind us we saw it running towards us well no-one told us to double our speed.

We had almost reached the girls hostel area when the figures spoke up "Abeg wetin dey pursue una na, wait for me abeg" that was when we stopped and turned to it and looked closely, well it was no spirit but our resident student ALBINO going for the vigil.

I don't know how to describe the feeling that moment I think I was the most happiest human being on planet earth throughout that day.

The hardest thing for me is saving numbers after exchange of contacts.

There's this weekend that I traveled, My neigbour(logde mate) asked me through WhatsApp when I would be coming back to school. I asked him to identify himself before I answer that question since I don't have him in my contact list and moreover he didn't update his picture.
The guy started threatening in playful but serious way that he would deal with me when I come back to school for asking him to identify himself, me in my I don't care attitude told him to go and sleep that he's drunk. At midnight I logged my WhatsApp to check the number well with my Nokia phone that has majority of my contacts. Lo and behold the number is almost the same with that of My HOD who's supervising my project that period. I started begging that my neigbour to forgive me thinking he was my Hod and he locked up, he would read my message but won't say anything. I was thinking on the kind of wine I would buy to beg my Hod for forgiveness before that my neigbour cleared me by saying his name.
I cleaned my eyes, checked the number again and found out that the only difference between the two numbers is one digit. I took a deep breath with eyes closed, breathe out before telling that my neigbour THUNDER FAYA YOU.

Mine happened earlier this year when I was serving in Gombe. I lived in a compound with only two neighbours at the time, my flatmate and another man who occupied one of the other flats.

As a late sleeper most times I stay awake till 1 or 2am pressing phone, it was one of those times I started hearing noises at the back of my room, just beside the window. The sounds were like that of somebody walking to and fro the window area. It would go on for like 20 seconds and stop for a while then continue again.

The thing was, my other neighbour travelled, my flatmate was in her room sleeping peacefully, the fence was high enough with barbed wires that no one could have jumped in without me hearing a sound, the gate was also locked since 8pm so no one could have sneaked in, so I knew it wasn't a person. Plus what would my anyone be looking for outside my window by 3am.

I started panicking when the movements started sounding more like angry footsteps and even knocks on the window.

I almost died from fear, I was paralysed on my bed, the worst thing was, that day I did not lock my room door. First I thought it was a robber but more than an hour and no robbery. Next thing my mind just went to someone I knew that died around that time, my mind just said it was the ghost roaming my backyard.

Because my curtains were so light that anybody outside could look in and see my phone's sceen light, I locked the phone for a while, then later I took courage and lifted my blankets to cover my whole head, carried my phone to dial my flatmate Aisha, I was hoping if she sees the call she'll just come to my room and knock, but it said number switched off, my spirit just collapsed. Then I dialed my sister, she didn't pick. I started praying and crying, begging God for forgiveness. I was even talking to the ghost in my mind, I said "abeg no be me kill you o, so please leave me alone, me and you no get any business together, so I command you to leave me in the name of Jesus" bla bla.

By this time I'd already dropped tons of messages on whatsapp for my loved ones,..incase anything happened.

This thing went on for about an hr, so around 4am it became like that of someone running. I couldn't bear it again, so I rolled of my bed, started crawling on the floor towards the door. My stomach was on the floor, like that drill we did in camp that we had to crawl under some barbed wires. I crawled till I got to the door, dragged myself out to the parlour and started crawling again towards my flatmate's room. Usually we left our room doors open cos it was bloody hot and our light had problem for weeks. So I gently pushed the door, it didn't open. Pushed it harder again, locked.

It was at that moment I started speaking in tongues, i just laid hopelessly on the floor crying silently. Battery low sef, it was like I was in a horror movie.
I crawled back to my room without making a sound because there were no curtain in the parlour sef so anything outside could spot me.

Around 5am when I started hearing prayers from the mosque opposite my house, I made up my mind to confront whatever it was and end the torture, atleast by that time If I screamed people going for morning prayers would hear me. Also my flatmate would be awake in few mins to prepare for work. So I carried my big rechargeable torch and went towards the window. I tried to look without the light first, didn't see nothing. I Put on the torch and then I saw them! Two biiiiiig bush rats that were eating away my broken sewage pipe.

�� hei God. Later that morning I uploaded it on my status and people were laughing, I laughed too o, but only me knew how I felt those few hours.

longest time

I was coming back from my friends house and it was so late. 'Mini' campus to main campus. On that late night a soldier stopped me and the bike man. He called me to come closer. There was no one on that long dark road to help if he and his crew decided to do nonsense. He waved that long big rifle at me and pointed to my leg with it and said he would shoot it, in a harsh, serious voice.

My bag automatically dropped from my hands with a loud thud. I swear one lone car passed and the occupants turned their faces as if they wanted to unsee me and escape the scene, even as i stared at them passing, in intense fear and a silent plea for help. I would've pissed myself.

Then this soldier started laughing. The other soldiers watching from afar in the dark started laughing. He said he liked me and just wanted my number. Also wanted to see if i was troublesome or something. I gave him the number so i could escape.

I was scared of checkpoints after that. I even recently passed one and was stopped cuz ' i wasnt smiling'

Lolz, don't think I have any real scary moment tho, I have always believed in the "I fear but I no run" slang(which I act on) and also the "kilo dun mowuru moni ninu Igbo, toba ma kpanije, ko kpanije, koye dun mowuru moni mo"(whatever is making a noise in the bush to scare one should stop it, if it wants to kill one, let it kill one and stop scaring one)
But with that said, there is a story I will never forget, it still amazes me till today
I live in Ibeju Agbe(Ibeju lekki) along the lekki Epe expressway, and I schooled in EPe
There was this Sunday I went to greet my friends in Epe, I was with them till around 7pm. When I was ready to go back to Ibeju, which is like over 30mins drive from Epe, I didn't see a cab or bus, I waited for a bus till around to 9 or there about.
All of a sudden, I made up my mind to walk home to Ibeju, i think I had always wanted to do this but the way my mind convinced me to was shocking, I never thought of any other option than to start walking and before I knew it, I was already on the berger bridge. The moonlight shining on the water beneath the bridge, I think I thought a bit about mermaid while crossing the bridge.
It got to a point, there was no cars coming on the road, so I moved to the middle of the road just to stay clear of the bushes.
Some birds were flying past me and I thought of birds turning to humans a bit, but I never stopped walking, I passed some villages along the road and I could hear people talking in front of their bamboo houses, some had firewood burning, may be they saw me or not, I just kept going.
There were still a some car movement like 1 car passing in 10-20 mins. Everywhere was extremely silent that I could hear cars coming from far away and I could see their headlights. I would stay by the road side and grin at a coming car just to look intimidating because of the fear of kidnapers tho I was ready to run inside the bush in case the car made a stop.
My elder brothers plays Silent Hill game on PS1, there is a way the man walks while searching for his daughter, that was the way I was walking, Something just made me walk that way. When I got to Ibeju bus stop, there was no light, but I could still manage even tho my eyes are not that good at night. A dog was barking from the darkness, tho I could not see it, I hit my leg on the ground and the dog ran away.
I didn't follow the main road, I followed the short cut I do pass when coming from school.
The Stop over bar had their generator on, I passed by the place, through houses, I could hardly see my front. This was around 1am
Maybe miraculously or something, my dad came out of the house to ease himself in the compound the moment I approached the gate and knocked it. He opened the gate, after asking who it was. They asked why am I coming this late(my mom was also awake in the sitting room), I told them the car I entered broke down in the middle of the road. Maybe because they were just happy to see me, they never questioned me beyond that, though my mom said she thinks I walked, but I said no and she didn't say anything again.
I slept fine that night, woke up in the morning and still went to school. My friends asked how I got home because they left me looking for a cab on the road. I just lied that I got home early.
Till today, I still wonder what came upon me to take that stupid and risky decision without being afraid. Through the journey, I noticed another presence in me(a dark one if you ask me). Till today, I see a face when I close my eyes, like someone else or something else is with me. I have come to accept it though, but its only known to me and I am fund of saying we, when referring to myself.
I try not to think much about it,make person nogo turn psycho BUT WHAT WAS IT?
Note: We were brought up to never stay out late, I myself detest it and get uncomfortable when the day begins to turn dark but this day was different

So they broke our door and entered the house they first went to my dad's room which was before that of my mum's where I do sleep most times so when they were done at my dad room they came to my mum's room knocking to open the door so my dad asked her to open the door as they opened it

what I kept on shouting and crying was "Mummy give them the phone"

Good old days

There was this time in school, I always get scared sleeping alone. I had a roommate so nothing to fear. Now, this roommate of mine went for her FPY which was for one month so I had been alone. I hardly sleep until it is like 4:30am cus of one unnecessary fear and stupid imaginations. And in our room, part of the ceiling was bad, it had always been like that. One night, at 'bout some minutes to 2 am, I was alone as usual but sleeping this time (not deeply though) when I heard flapping of wings inside my room. I was very sleepy so I was thinking to myself, "ha this is a very big butterfly or something o for the flapping of its wings to be this loud. How did it even get in in the first place?" but I didn't get up. After some minutes, I sprung up to my feet and lo and behold, it was a bat in my room. Ah God, I wanted to die, I didn't know whether I should pray abi I should run or jump or sit down. I was cold already. Everything on my mind was " Temi ba mi, o tí shélé". I summoned the courage to run out cus it was flying all over the room. I knocked on the door of one of my hostel mates, she didn't reply. I called her like 10 times, she didn't pick, I called another like 6times, he didn't pick Jesus, I'm dead. I was just expecting the bird to change to an old woman lol. To cut it short, I had to knock on the door of a guy in my hostel so he came to my room and was like it must have come from the opened ceiling. He slept in my room that night o. Ha he had to cus I was have dead already.

Having a nightmare in boarding house in my jss2 and I woke up to hear a roommate screaming, "nyak ofong, nyak ofong," meaning "Leave my cloth, leave my cloth" and a friend of mine woke up from a nightmare and saw a white cloth (it was one of the prefect's clothes hanging on the clothesline in the dormitory) and he was scared. So there was pandemonium in the dormitory that persisted even after the prefect tried to calm the screaming down to "shut up." It was a funny incident when I think of it but at that time, it was scary. See how someone questioned me on what had transpired the previous night because they heard about it.

I've got a lot of em, but mine was real it happened wen my mum died year 2009 I was in ss1 then, the trauma affected my a lot and I ended up been sick most times.

so I would be at home alone in my sick bed at night and my siblings would be outside playing, suddenly kitchen utensils would start dropping on the floor,the pots covers would open and close plates and spoons clatter, water running and so many commotions would be going on in the kitchen. I would be scared shitless outaa my mind then I would hear footsteps walking around the corridor and passages and also incoherent mumblings.

At one point in the night we were all in and suddenly the door to my room I shared with my lil bro just opened as if someone pushed it, mind u this door can't be pushed by wind cos the hinges are kinda old and stiff, I suddenly felt cold and weak with dis feeling that someone was standing right in the room with us and looking at me.

This happened in Lagos State University Epe Campus

We were on our way, 5 of us, to the market situated outside the campus but accessible via a long winding foot path running from the back of the campus towards the river where the market is. I was in front of the others leading the way when we or should I say, when I saw the fine girl walking towards us. She smiled and passed us and after we had gone a few steps, I asked the others if they had seen that girl. They all said what girl? I said the girl that just passed us now and they said they didn’t see anyone. I started sweating but laughed it off and told them to stop messing around! Anyway, till today I was the only one who apparently saw the girl.

Sleepwalking. Found myself about 100m away from the boys dormitory and it was around 2am or so.
I was only 12, so imagine what it felt like

When I was in boarding house... it most have been late night or early morning. That is how I heard grinnnnn gra gra gra! I said hey God!!! What now . It’s in boarding house I learnt to sleep with cover over my head on to see no evil, hear no evil, know no evil o. Anyway I was shaking under my cover o as the noise continued through the night like someone was sawing.

Anyway, I prayed and eventually fell asleep. Only to wake up at like 5am and some other students were already shuffling around but the noise was still on. I gathered enough courage to trace the noise. One stupid junior grinding her teeth while sleeping!!! I am sure she doesn’t have teeth now, with the way she was grinding it! Very loud like a saw! Chai!

I was maybe 15years old when this happened.
I was outside the house one morning minding my business when I saw an agama lizard ( those ones with red head ), just starring at me.

Trust me, I picked up an object to throw at it. I missed and the lizard entered into the room via the open window of one of our neighbors, this man was an ex military. Unfortunately, he saw when this incident happened and ordered me to go in and get the lizard. And that I must not kill it in his room.

Kai, my head became big! How can I chase this lizard out o! I went in, he followed me holding a koboko. I started searching where the lizard might be hiding. After several minutes I saw it hiding at one corner.

I had no choice. I wrapped a cloth on my palm, bent down and grabbed it. As I held it, I felt a shivering sensation in my body, as I ran out of his room and threw the lizard out in the street.
