Damn this is really messy , like I said on the other thread the Americans don't joke with money laundering because of the potential damage laundered money can do to them , it will better to be a bank robber in America than try to launder money in their because there is nothing Americans fear than laundered money getting into the hands of sleeper Terrorist cells within the US like it happened in 911. Trust even the American President has been briefed on this case , the secretary of Homeland security has an interest in it , the FBI has its own interest , the DEA also its own interest .
The Americans are going want to make sure first that not a single dime from Onyeamas laundered 20 million dollars found its way to hands

1. Any plot to undermine the US economy
2 . Any plot undermine the security of American
3. Any plot to fuel the drug trade
4. Any plot to use American economy as warehouse of funds of corrupt origins .
5 . Any plot to undermine the economy or security of any of Americas allies .
6. Any plot to conduct any form of Terrorism against any of Americas allies .

To be factual Onyeama is guilty of breaching their anti money laundering laws and the choice he has is not claiming no wrong doing but proving to the Americans that his actions was not carried out in bad faith against the economy and security of the American state but as a result of inexperience in international finance which if proven can get him a lighter penalty either in conviction, fines or forfeiture.

The implication of this case against Onyeama are not as light as some of us want to believe , see below some:

1 . He could be charged for funding Terrorism if a single dime from that money he transfered mistakenly finds it way to the hands of a terrorist.

2 .he could be charged for breaching US anti drug laws if a single dime is traced to any drug dealer even by mistake.

3. He could be charged with bringing corrupt money into the US if a single dime is traced to any politically corrupt money anywhere.

4 . AIR PEACE will hence forth find it hard to pay for it's aircrafts parts in the us as well as buy new planes because it's letters of credit will not be honored .

5 . He can forget his pending aircraft orders with Boeing and Embraer as this will not happen for now because the Americans now own both Boeing and Embraer.

Like someone said below the best thing for him to do is get on the plane to America to clear his name because becoming an American Fugitive is not easy at all

Really?

Then where did the dirty money get their money from, other dirty money?

Then where did this other dirty money get their money?

Who then created the original money that "bad" guys are stealing from.

Hahahaha!

Look around you. The food you eat to the dress you wear & services you use— All provided by others who make money off off these. Some enough to be deemed wealthy, isn't it.

The existence of bad money is EXACTLY a confirmation that good money exists.
No doubt good money exist but who could have thought air peace CEO is into money laundering and list goes on

A warrant of arrest has been issued against Allen Onyema of Air Peace Limited for alleged money laundering and bank fraud in the United States, court documents seen by PREMIUM TIMES showed.
The warrant was signed by Justin Anand, an American magistrate of the United States District Court of the Northern District of Georgia, on November 19. The warrant authorised U.S. Marshals Service to take Mr Onyema into custody.
PREMIUM TIMES could not immediately confirm Mr Onyema’s location as of Saturday morning, but he was seen at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on Thursday.
The U.S. and Nigeria have a mutual legal assistance policy that allows both countries to extradite suspects facing criminal charges. Several Nigerians have been sent to the U.S. to stand trial for alleged fraud.
In August, Temitayo Fatunmbi was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment after being found guilty of $8.3 million fraud. His conviction in the U.S. followed his extradition from Nigeria.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regularly arrests suspects wanted by U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation for fraud or other criminal allegations.
It was unclear whether the U.S. authorities have sought an extradition of Mr Onyema as part of efforts to execute warrant of arrest issued against him.
Mr Onyema was indicted on Friday for allegedly laundering suspicious funds in excess of $20 million dollars in the U.S. Ejiroghene Eghagha, Air Peace’s head of finance and administration, was also indicted and an arrest warrant issued equally against him.
The two Nigerian business executives were accused of conniving to commit money laundering and bank fraud for several years. The U.S. Department of Justice made the allegations public on Friday, but did not mention that an arrest warrant had been issued for Messrs Onyema and Eghagha.
Details of the arrest obtained by PREMIUM TIMES said Mr Onyema used several non-commercial entities he registered to conduct commercial businesses in the United States.
The allegations also included how Mr Onyema facilitated fraudulent letters of credit to American banks to procure aircraft, equipment and luxury goods.
About $14 million traced to his bank accounts in the U.S. and Canada have been frozen as federal authorities pursue a final forfeiture order.
The seizure came after extensive investigation of how Mr Onyema allegedly conducted the fraud between 2010 and 2018.
Mr Onyema’s case comes as U.S. authorities are recording back-to-back successes in their clampdown on Nigerians suspected of fraudulent activities there.

The arrest of Invictus Obi for Internet fraud made headlines in early August. Mr Obi has been held in American jail until February 2020 when his trial would commence.
In the same month, nearly 80 Nigerians were indicted by a federal grand jury for alleged involvement in multiple layers of fraud ranging from romance scam to business email compromise.
Mr Onyema did not return multiple telephone calls and text messages seeking comments about the warrant. Mrs Eghagha was unavailable for comments.
But a statement by their attorney dismissed the charges as “strange” and “unfounded.”
The statement said both Messrs Onyema and Eghagha have built a reputation of honesty and integrity and will look forward to fighting the charges against them in court.

It is the federal government of Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari that is responsible for cases like this.

The first day he started fighting corruption and balloning the assignment of the Efcc to yahoo boys things started falling apart.

ALL THE FEW RICH PEOPLE THAT IS CREATING JOBS FOR THE COUNTRY IS NOW UNDER THREAT.

I said here that Buhari is DEMARKETING NIGERIA WITH HIS ANTI CORRUPTION FIGHT.

Ghana our next door neigbour use wisdom to prosecute corruption cases.

They do not over sensationalise corruption matter the way Buhari was doing.

Now the country little wealth is under foreign threat.

The americans that are issuing warrant of arrest where were they when Abacha was carrying our commonwealth to store in their banks.

I think the federal government should step down this anti corruption fight by taking away all the dramas and authority that goes with it.

Russia, China will definately protect their rich people.

But will Buhari protect Onyeama?

This is serious. I'm speechless and I don't want to believe this.

Could there be a mistake from somewhere?

How did he even made his money before starting up the airline business in 2013?

They conducted this investigation between 2010 to 2018.

This means that they went back to 3 years before he started the airline business. They must have investigated how he raised money for the business.

I just like the way he's redefining airline business in Nigeria. I pray he comes out of this clean.

Behind almost 90% "wealthy" Nigerian men and women, there is always a serious crime. It is so depressing that this has matured to be a culture. Sad.

To all those gloating about this news, really shame on you.
Take this to the bank. This matter is more political than its about fighting crime.
If Nigerias govt let this guy's business go down unless someone in same govt is planning a mafian take over of this guys business, then its a big shame to our govt.
One of the new and thriving businesses in Nigeria is about to go down on frivlous charges, yet you people gloat.
I think someone is planning to do a mafian take over of this guys business. Really bad!

This is not about clearing you name. This is not rape or murder where you can make claims. This is financial crime with a paper trail. No he said she said.

Ibeto was the Cement company to beat, the banks came for him
Innoson became the face of Indigenous African vehicles, GTBank came for him. The court awarded the win to Innoson.
Capital Oil started making Oando and Forte Oil uncomfortable, AMCON came after him. The court once again awarded the win to Capital Oil.

Now, AirPeace is redefining the face of aviation in Nigeria and the US is now after him for laundering money.
Money that was duly transferred via the CBN to the Plane makers.
Something just does not add up.

My questions are,
Is it now a sin to be a successful Igboman.
Is it a crime to rise against the odds of being Igbo and excel in business in the uneven Nigeria playing field.

How come things are put in place for others to excel no matter what while every known persecution trails others?

I'm not asking a lot,
I'm just saying that water has passed garri when the mosquito begins to suck breast milk meant for the baby instead of blood.

Another factor you didn't categorically state is that all the other cases are local cases while chief Onyema's is an international case. He has released a statement that all documents he forwarded were vetted by the CBN, so it's up to his lawyers to prove beyond reasonable doubt.

As much as I wish that this case is a mistake, the criminal justice system don't make cases public they are not certain of.
