Just so you know that project is as easy as it comes, nothing spectacular but this is Nigeria where normal means excellence.

Your tribalism is very refreshing sir

Kulas:
Please i am not being tribal but once i read the heading and it is technological innovation, i told a guy beside me that i can bet N50,000 before clicking on the message that the person in question that developed this must be an igbo guy.

Honestly,Igbos are naturally talented. No doubt their quest to be on their own and get their own country that can serve as a technological hub of African.

Nigerians and Ignorance.

There's nothing new or unique about a pyrolysis vessel. Nothing at all. Like someone has said earlier, this is basically a final year project.

Maybe elect/elect students should bring out their UPS and Stabilizer projects and claim to be inventors.

Are you aware there has been a lot of suppression for alternative energies for many decades? e.g water as fuel in cars/generator plants, hydrogen as fuel with zero green effect.

If I talk my mind now they will say I am a hater.

1. The writer said pyrolysis of plastics will provide an alternative source of fuel. This is very contradictory since plastics and the conventional diesel/gasoline share the same source.

2. Pyrolysis of plastic is not an invention. It has been in existence and well documented in literature.

3. Like many pyrolytic processes, what would be produced is fuel oil and likely not diesel/gasoline. Fuel oil would still need to undergo blending, catalytic cracking and/or reforming to meet diesel or gasoline specification.

4. I wonder how the guy handled the olefinic gases and carcinogenic aromatics that will likely be produced.

5. There will be coke deposits. How will he remove them? How did he even size the reactor?

5. Is the process sustainable and economic? The problem with things like this is the high cost of pre-treating the plastics, downstream processing, octane/centane improvement and treatment of emissions like Noxs.

6. A distinction between the type of plastics used should be made. Were thermosets or thermoplasts used?

- It is embarrassing that the supervisor in his school adopted this project. It is only a reflection of the backwardness and decadence of our educational institutions. The only impressive engineering project I have seen so far is the guy that made a small flying aeroplane.

- It is not the guy's fault though. He is only as good as his lectures.

- No sane governement will adopt this. Trust me when I say this.
Fellow reactor, you saved me an epistle, the sytem is not viable. I'm currently working on something similar the difference is that it uses biomass and produces Syngas. I've filed a patent form for it but the issue of sustainability is a constant headache.

You may spit out your intestines on any intellectual output of the Black since you are a fellow Black, may be out of complex. This invention may not be fanciful at this stage, but it is a true invention.

Nylon are essentially hydrocarbons and therefore have the potentials of giving out energy. Whichever gymnastics the dude might have played in successfully converting the energy into use is highly commendable and deserve attention of the public.

Note, fuel is not just about petrol and diesel. Even firewoods, clothes and any material that can burn on its own giving out heat is fuel. So shut up if you can't praise him.

I, personally don't subscribe to fantasies and foolishness borne out of ignorance. You may check my post on that crapy nonsense that "generates" electricity from water.

Photos Of Machine Invented By Unizik Student That Can convert Pure Water Nylon to fuel

A just graduated student of  Chemical Engineering Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Anthony Obikwelu, has stunned the science world after he developed and manufactured a machine that can convert plastic and other waste materials into fuel.

Below is the detailed inscription on what the machine is all about. He writes,

This machine produces petroleum based fuel (closely diesel) from thermal pyrolysis of waste plastics.

Pyrolysis is the process of heating organic material at high temperatures in the absence of oxygen. Since no oxygen is present, the organic material does not combust. Instead, the chemical compounds that make up the material decompose into combustible gases and char. The produced gases is condensed to give a liquid fuel.

Pyrolysis presents an opportunity to manufacture low- carbon liquid fuels and decrease the emissions of the industry. These fuels are also compatible with our existing transportation infrastructure which eliminates the need to introduce costly new infrastructure. Complete pyrolysis of organic matter usually leaves a solid residue that consists mostly of elemental carbon; the process is then called carbonization.

As we all know, Plastic goods and packaging and the inevitable plastic waste resulting from them are found all over the world. Plastic is a relatively cheap, durable and versatile material. However, as waste it constitutes a sizeable percentage of the litter we see every day in public places. It is also non-biodegradable; presents risks to human health and the environment; and some types are difficult to re-use and/or recycle. Almost 100 million tons per annum are produced every day. So the process of pyrolysis of plastics is attempted to reduce the waste plastics and to find a source for alternative fuel.

This is really quite an invention as it solves the problem of cost of mining oil. It would help reduce the emiison of harmful waste matters into the air which affects our ozone layer. It will prevent issues of oil spilliage and ocean pollution. It'll also create direct and indirect employment as plastics and other waste materials would be sourced for, thereby creating an avenue through which people can earn a living.

Right now, the only hindrance to this machine is that it needs funding from the government, so it can be developed into a large scale model where millions of litres of oil can be produced daily. He can be contacted via email on Tonytopaz1@gmail.com or Facebook with the name Anthony Obikwelu.

Honestly, they almost buried me alive on that thread. The fact that someone is telling them their fantasies are mere dreams that can't see the light was really disturbing to them.

They just can't make a difference between fantasies and realities.

Imagine, water as a chemical with zero energy content will now generate electrical energy and the idiots believed 100%, yet they identified themselves as graduates of physical sciences. As if that is not enough, they insult others who tell them the realities even though they lack the faintest of idea what energy generation is all about. They want everyone to agree with their delusional "invention". cheesy

Sustainability and reliability is always the problem with renewable energy systems. Most times, they are integrated with mainstream processing systems.

Water actually can produce electricity but it needs to be either upgraded to steam or possess some sort of energy by virtue of it's height or flow. Either way I get the point you were trying to make on that thread

Water in the form of steam must have been heated up, and something must be producing the heat, so ultimately, the source of the heat is the actual source of the energy, water is just used as the medium for the energy transfer.

Again, water falling from a height on a turbine blade to drive the turbine actually possesses some potential energy which is converted to kinetic energy as it falls, and this energy drives the turbine. Now, if stones fall from a height on the blade, it can as well drive the turbine. So it is not as if the water itself has some energy for propelling the blade.

But water, as a chemical has no energy to fuel any machine contrary to what that "invention" was trying to make us believe.
