After saint valentine, a day of crporal mercy. Giving to the poor, clothing the unclad, feeding the hungry, taking care of the sick, among many others. It's purpose was never to serve as a day for 'family togetherness'. But for charity.
With time, it's meaning as changed. It's now for lovers. Exchanging gifts, love letters etc. Same way christmas is no longer about observing the birth of christ but a day of jollification.
His post that only unreasonable people celebrate valentine with their romantic partner is wrong. As of now, thats it's purpose.
A normal person spends most of their time with his/her family and friends. Why create a special day for that?
