chyz: never changed in terms of what population number or the mentality of not really bothering of having the correct fingures i was reading the nigeria civil war it seems like (my point view) population numbers are used to sort make tribes/ region population look large therefore threating other small ones & with you nigerians being obessed with tribe etc it creates fictions ''The causes of the Nigerian civil war were diverse. More than fifty years earlier, Great Britain carved an area out of West Africa containing hundreds of different ethnic groups and unified it, calling it Nigeria. Although the area contained many different groups, the three predominant groups were the Igbo, which formed between 60-70% of the population in the southeast, the Hausa-Fulani, which formed about 65% of the peoples in the northern part of the territory; the Yoruba, which formed about 75% of the population in the southwestern part '' |

ZIM DRILL: WE nigerian aren't obsessed with tribes. We are who we are.If zimbabwe had been as tribe conscious there would have been so many white people taking over you all's land and property. Anyways, look point black northern nigerian population is inflated and southn nigerian population deflated. They've even gone as far as dividing 1 ethnic group and creating a whole nother name to further weaken the original ethnic group. |

ZIM DRILL: Ok, what made Nigeria so populated is good life. Man bounces home, gets a full belly of food from wifey, smiles around with his kids, checks his fat bank balance and feels on top, wifey smiles from the bedroom door and he chases her inside, climbs her like a cock and does the 'jigi jigi' dance and voila! Another happy Nigerian pops out its head. |

@ Zim Drill-The population of Nigeria if taken/accepted as -150million, isn't earth shaking or large. Besides, there is no conclusive/definitive population figure for Nigeria. Every Nigeria population figure is usually qualified and varied -from 88.45mln, 120mln, 150mln, 160mln and even 180mln - take your pick Which figure do you believe/accept? Everything about Nigeria is 'Political' Your land/population analysis is off point nevertheless. Nigeria is about the 13th largest country in Africa territorially and 1st/largest in population/Africa. I hope you'll not project your prejudice on Nigeria(s). |

Mutare, Zimbabwe (CNN) -- Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe threatened Friday to seize all Western-owned investments in the country unless their governments remove targeted sanctions imposed on him and his senior ZANU-PF party members. The 86-year-old former guerrilla leader spoke at his party conference in Murare. "This conference must come with a real program, a solid program of how we decide to fight sanctions," Mugabe said. "What is our anti-sanctions program? We have been too far too good for malicious people for countries which seek to destroy us. Why should we continue to have 400 British companies here operating freely with Britain benefiting from us?" The 86-year-old former guerrilla leader said that "the time has come for , revenge" and suggested that Zimbabwe's Indigenization and Economic Empowerment Act -- which gives foreign companies five years to submit plans for transferring 51% of their investments to black Zimbabweans -- did not go far enough. "We can start with that 51%. In some cases, we must read the riot act to the British and others and say them, 'This is only 51% we have taken. Unless you remove sanctions, we will go 100%,' if they insist the sanctions must remain," he said. In 2002, the European Union and the United States imposed targeted sanctions on Mugabe and some senior party members after rampant reports of human rights violations and stifling of the opposition. Mugabe blames the sanctions for his country's woes, which include an unemployment rate of more than 90% and an inflation rate of 231,000,000%. Zimbabwe's Indigenization and Economic Empowerment Act was passed by a ZANU-PF-controlled parliament and put into effect this year. It has been the subject of considerable criticism, particularly from opposition leader and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change. Mugabe has held power since Zimbabwe became independent in 1980. A 2008 election resulted in a runoff between Mugabe and Tsvangirai. Movement for Democratic Change, charging fraud in the election, eventually pulled out, and Mugabe was declared the winner. In 2009, with ZANU-PF no longer a majority in the parliament, Mugabe formed a coalition government with Tsvangirai, who was named prime minister. On Friday, Mugabe said he was tired of working with the opposition party, which he said "lacked ideology and policies." He termed the unity government a "creature." Mugabe warned Western diplomats not to interfere in Zimbabwe's elections, which he said would be held next year. He said the West had contributed to his party's defeat in 2008. "(In 2008), we had even the American ambassador going out with anti-ZANU-PF documents and blatantly organizing for MDC," he said. "That will not happen (next year). Any ambassador who does will kick him out. We have been too good." |

Zimbabwe country profile The fortunes of Zimbabwe have for almost three decades been tied to President Robert Mugabe, the pro-independence campaigner who wrested control from a small white community and became the country's first black leader. Until the 2008 parliamentary elections, Zimbabwe was effectively a one-party state, ruled over by Mr Mugabe's Zanu-PF. A power-sharing deal has raised hopes that Mr Mugabe might be prepared to relinquish some of his powers, but in the meantime he presides over a nation whose economy is in tatters, where poverty and unemployment are endemic and political strife and repression commonplace. |

Zimbabwe is home to the Victoria Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world, the stone enclosures of Great Zimbabwe - remnants of a past empire - and to herds of elephant and other game roaming vast stretches of wilderness. AT-A-GLANCE Politics: President Robert Mugabe, in office since 1980, agreed to an historic power-sharing deal with the opposition in September 2008, following months of political turmoil. Relationship has been troubled. Economy: Economy appears to be stabilising after years of crisis with rampant inflation, "de-industrialisation" and shortages of food and fuel. Agricultural production is shrinking International: Hopes that political deal will alleviate international isolation Timeline For years it was a major tobacco producer and a potential bread basket for surrounding countries. But the forced seizure of almost all white-owned commercial farms, with the stated aim of benefiting landless black Zimbabweans, led to sharp falls in production and precipitated the collapse of the agriculture-based economy. The country has endured rampant inflation and critical food and fuel shortages. Many Zimbabweans survive on grain handouts. Others have voted with their feet; hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans, including much-needed professionals, have emigrated. Aid agencies and critics partly blame food shortages on the land reform programme. The government blames a long-running drought, and Mr Mugabe has accused Britain and its allies of sabotaging the economy in revenge for the redistribution programme. The government's urban slum demolition drive in 2005 drew more international condemnation. The president said it was an effort to boost law and order and development; critics accused him of destroying slums housing opposition supporters. Either way, the razing of "illegal structures" left some 700,000 people without jobs or homes, according to UN estimates. The former Rhodesia has a history of conflict, with white settlers dispossessing the resident population, guerrilla armies forcing the white government to submit to elections, and the post-independence leadership committing atrocities in southern areas where it lacked the support of the Matabele people. Zimbabwe has had a rocky relationship with the Commonwealth - it was suspended after President Mugabe's controversial re-election in 2002 and later announced that it was pulling out for good. |
