Anybody from the ruling families can be Alafin, but only the Edaiken can succeed the Oba. Edaiken is the first son of the oba who must have been initiated into the Edo mystical system from birth as the head. Again, Edaiken can only succeed his dad on his passage. Oba of Benin is still more difficult to dethrone than Alafin

But in history Benin Monarch was once dethrone by British colonialism and the same British colonial pay a lot of money by killing cows when inviting OONIRISA OF IFE to come out of his domain to settle a dispute in Lagos. According to history, he kill cows in every river that Ooni cross and also provide aircraft to passage Oonirisa through the journey. Read your history very well.

Oba of Benin is the elder brother to Alafin of oyo

Oranmiyan left Benin for Oyo after establishing Ile Ibinu, that is Oba of Benin is a son to Alaafin

First of all: You're bragging emptily before the wrong person. cheesy

Secondly: I've just demonstrated to you that in Nigeria, the Oba of Benin is NEVER officially styled as "His Imperial Majesty". It just has never happened before.

Rather his styling is: "His Royal Majesty" just as several other Tom, Dick, and Harry.

What evidence, proof, or reason do you then have in defense of your earlier grandoise misappropriation to the Oba of Benin, if you still stand by it??

Thirdly: I've stated that only the Ooni of Ife has the exclusive official right, in Nigeria, to the styling "His Imperial Majesty".

Your random Facebook "rejoinder" as has been pointed out holds no water as it has zero weight in official traditional matters in Nigeria.

You also seem to have seen that light for your silence on that matter in your comeback.

Lastly: Regarding who is supreme and imperial between the two monarchs:

Permit me to educate you on what you probably have never heard before.

There are tons of established evidence (in academia) demonstrating without a shred of doubt that the Ooni of Ife is suzerain, imperial, and divine over Benin kingdom and its Oba.

I will point out two of the simplest and clearest of these tons of evidence:

1. The kings of Benin kingdom paid homage to the Ooni of Ife.

Refer to time-stamp 47:16 to 49:00 in the BBC/British Museum History & Art documentary below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQY_Jd--pwI&t=2070s

2. The kings of Benin kingdom regard the Ooni of Ife as their god in human flesh.

In fact, Omo N'Oba Erediauwa I in his 2004 work "The Benin-Ife Connection" noted that in Benin kingdom the Ooni of Ife was called "Oghene" --- What does "Oghene" mean in your language?? cheesy

Refer below to Margaret Plass in "The Art of Benin: An Evaluation Based on Discussions with William Fagg, Deputy Keeper of Ethnography in the British Museum."

"... Oba Oguola --- supposed to have reigned about A.D. 1280 --- applied to his spiritual overlord, the Oni of Ife, for the service of a bronze founder to teach his people..."

You are making Ife look like an empire or one mighty kingdom which it never was.

The title of “imperial majesty” is meant for emperors and conquerors neither of which Ooni of Ife is..

In comparison the Oba of Benin is an imperial majesty..
You are talking about official title, imperial majesty is not an official title given by Nigerian government

I don’t know the meaning of “Oghene” in Benin language but since u know Benin language you tell me the meaning abi..

What Is this one saying? If you are ignorant, then keep quite. Each state is governed by laws when it comes to Traditional institutions and I can tell you in the Edo state chieftaincy law, the governor has no power to dethrone the oba of Benin. It is not within his power. If it was, Lucky igbinedion would have done that a long time ago when he was governor and was having issues with the late oba. Even when he dragged the oba to court, the oba never appeared in court. The matter was killed b4 it even started and him and his father had to apologize to the late Oba

Stay Nairaland to argue wetin you nor know

Please don't forget that the governor if Edo state is the number one citizen of the state and any other persons or Oba, still line on the queue as a number.
Moreover is the only one that has the constitutional right to act in his capacity. Even the Oba of Benin is still under governor's payroll.

All these believe in fetish powers won't take you anywhere......

An oba has been dethroned in the past and nothing happened. If it is God's will, another will be dethroned and nothing will happen.

Humans should stop acting as if they are God.

One, you can not dethrone someone whose son is still the king till today.

Secondly, he voluntarily stepped down because of the war and killings. In order to stop further bloodshed, he decided to go with them.

No, the Oba of Benin is NOT an Imperial Majesty. Rather, he is officially regarded as "His Royal Majesty" just like several other Tom, Dick, and Harry.

The only royalty whom the title (His Imperial Majesty) is officially reserved for in Nigeria is the Ooni of Ife.

Stop appropriating what is not.

imperial is used for emperors/empresses
royal is used for kings/queen

Exactly!

An emperor/Empress is a king/queen of a higher and elevated status.

All emperors/empreses are kings/queens, but NOT all kings/queens are emperor/empresses.

The Ooni of Ife is styled as His Imperial Majesty. The Oba of Benin is NOT.

When the traditional ruler are respected as the Governor of Edo state has demonstrated, definitely, there will always be a change of out look in the society, due to what one may call the respect of tradition because it carry with it an honor and authentic identity of who we are and to be preserved.
" Ethical concept and Tradition is a word of honor and a word that guides"
