jay bee: Yeah right, Assuming you earn 50K in the UK which when converted to Naira = 1.25 million , and then you factor in housing , car, inconveniences etc etc, 2m is nothing, especially when you have to pay school fees which otherwise you do not pay in the UK ( free education ) and health care ( again free in the UK ). |

dude with 50k, ur take home pay is: <3K => <750K Naira Stop manufacturing figures in your head. Do you work as a contractor? Mind u IT professional is pretty generic, What do u specialise in? |
Re: Relocation To Nigeria From The Uk 2011. Am I Mad Or Is It Possible ? by notcorrupt: 8:14pm On Dec 29, 2010 |
jay bee: I am not manufacturing figures in my head, many of us earn more than £50k in the Cisco and security world and I mean permanent not contracting. But, I want like for like, before tax. Lets not go down the route of take home pay. Nigeria is not exactly an easy place to live in, just like you have London weighting , should there not be Lagos inconveniences allowance , seriously ? |

I seriously doubt you earn over 73K per annum before tax working as a permanent staff Mind you, i'm very familiar with IT. You'd be lucky to earn 10M per annum in Naija |
Re: Relocation To Nigeria From The Uk 2011. Am I Mad Or Is It Possible ? by notcorrupt: 8:25pm On Dec 29, 2010 |
jay bee: I am even more familiar with IT than you are, lol. As a senior network designer and implementer, working for large British and American blue chip organizations, 10M is having a laugh , seriously. |

Not going to argue with you but frankly IT professionals don't earn 2M in naija. That's just u living in fantasy land. |

Naira 10 million per annum is approximately $75 000! Let's put it this way, I would not advise even my worst enemy to move down to Nigeria for that, especially for a senior position in IT. lol. Here is an article that might make you feel good about it though http://blogs.wsj.com/wealth/2010/09/07/the-perfect-salary-for-happiness-75000-a-year/ The Perfect Salary for Happiness: $75,000 The study, which analyzed Gallup surveys of 450,000 Americans in 2008 and 2009, suggested that there were two forms of happiness: day-to-day contentment (emotional well-being) and overall “life assessment,” which means broader satisfaction with one’s place in the world. While a higher income didn’t have much impact on day-to-day contentment, it did boost people’s “life assessment.” Now we have more details from the study, conducted by the Princeton economist Angus Deaton and famed psychologist Daniel Kahneman. It turns out there is a specific dollar number, or income plateau, after which more money has no measurable effect on day-to-day contentment. The magic income: $75,000 a year. As people earn more money, their day-to-day happiness rises. Until you hit $75,000. After that, it is just more stuff, with no gain in happiness. That doesn’t mean wealthy and ultrawealthy are equally happy. More money does boost people’s life assessment, all the way up the income ladder. People who earned $160,000 a year, for instance, reported more overall satisfaction than people earning $120,000, and so on. “Giving people more income beyond 75K is not going to do much for their daily mood … but it is going to make them feel they have a better life,” Mr. Deaton told the Associated Press. He added that, “As an economist I tend to think money is good for you, and am pleased to find some evidence for that.” The results are fascinating, especially in this conflicted age of materialism. But I wonder how they would differ by region or city. Would $75,000 mark the ultimate day-to-day contentment in such high-cost cities as New York City, Los Angeles or San Francisco? I doubt it. Perhaps the salary number would be lower in South Dakota or Mississippi. What do you think the income threshold would be in your town for maximum day-to-day happiness? |

jay bee: If your estimated 10m naira excludes housing and car allowance , then it is something to consider, but if it includes both of these important items it is a joke. |

notcorrupt:2m a month is asking for too much if you are just a 'worker' in the field as you will be if you are a senior engineer. the big bucks comes if when you get in as a 'senior engineer'. you have such a bubbly personality such that you can manage people and people like you and want to achieve their goals because of the respect they have for you. when such qualities are recognized in you as with the guy who is now a director, only then will you be plucked from the field into management, only then can you ask for that kind of money and even more. people on the field dont earn that kinda cash, it is 'managers of men' that earn that. |

Re: Relocation To Nigeria From The Uk 2011. Am I Mad Or Is It Possible ? by jikings(m): 9:39pm On Dec 29, 2010 |
@ Poster. 2Million is apporximately £8000 per month. If you are currently earning that much in UK ( which I doubt), then you may need to seroiussly consider your move before heading south. |

Not the guys name but info on this particular job and all. I have myself heard wonder stories of people earning and living like kings in Nigeria only to learn later it was all mostly mouth and nothing more. If this is true, I would definitely love to know more of the kind of job and all. I checked the website and nothing in the career area. I did email the career dept, and I hope to get filled on opportunities that may be available with the company and possibly salary grades for each position too. If I get it, that may help me better gauge what to expect with the company at the end of the day. |

If you looking for 2m/month, you should be at least a General manager (GM) to get paid that much! Such jobs are usually not seating and waiting. .you should know the companies you are targeting and begin to do your homework plus various organisations (KPMG, Careers in Africa, findajobinafrica etc) recruit for top management positions, so will be best you also look into that. I wont want to return to Nigeria until after the elections if i was you though! GLTY! |
