@OP
2mill a month isn't a big deal to some companies, however, it has to be based on the individual in questions skill set, you have to really have something to offer, fact is, 4 out of 5 returnees only have their much vaunted integrity and not much more.

you mentioned cisco in one of your posts, do you have a CCIE? that'd be a good start.

that said, that's more than what i earn in a year. . .lol

I am not saying is all!!

Kobo you'd be surprised!!! no be this naija?

you should see some of these 'big players' on TV especially the finance topshots giving interviews or talking generally about economic policies or something like that you'd wonder

Why do Nigerians with all the experience and training not create jobs for other Nigerians and carve a niche for themselves in the process?

Are we that afraid of entrepreneurship?

Who will create the jobs that folks with all the degrees will return to?

Just wondering. .  undecided undecided

I will tell you why.

With the decay of infrastructure, power supply issues, security problems etc etc , only a medium to large size company can bear the financial inconveniences of operating in such an environment.

If the government puts the right things in order, of course we will start viable businesses.

I know people can talk on TV on issues but that does not necessarily mean they are all earning $300,000 or so. I mean turn on BBC, CNN etc and you see people in these fields speak as well but that don't automatically put them up there with the high earners.

My thing is I am told these particular people earn upwards of $300,000 and I am trying to verify it, to get a better understanding of what it is they do and all. I just mentioned that the pictures sort of betray the claim and the website makes the company seem like a joke. lol

seriously though tryna judge a nigerian mans wealth by how he looks is a futile task. the richest men in nigeria look like the poorest men in london. look at obasanjo, babangida, dangote, etc etc those men look like people who do early morning in london but are worth billions of dollars. so please, kobojunkie, do not judge wealth in nigeria by looks.

Agreed, which is probably why I would advise you to stay put in UK.

But I come from a school of thought which believes that a true entrepreneur finds opportunities in the very same challenges stopping others.

Each time I look at Nigeria with all the infrastructure problems, all I see are opportunities.  cool

Yes, even in the present chaos, I see opportunities, especially for folks in the tech fields.

You can start a consulting company and provide services alien to the normal Nigerian business culture.
It will be TOUGH initially, but once you break through the initial huddles, you move full speed ahead.

But you must bring something different to the table (integrity for instance) , else NO NICHE.

I mean they dont sound or look like they're earning that much, but you should see people rushing to carry their suitcase

In nigeria to be honest top management in some companies do Bleep all, they have many middle managers they delegate to, they pile all the work on the junior/middle staff but some sectors dont allow you do that

followed my uncle around for a week in nigeria meeting many of these top dudes, and I kept wondering how they had so much time going for lunch several times in a day, parties midweek, welcoming parties, leaving parties, personal building projects all during working week  undecided

I know the major thieves do not look it but one thing I believe is that more than 70% of the time, especially when you are dealing with Nigerians, when an educated Nigeria makes money, especially legit money, you can almost tell by the way they carry themselves and more. And so, since I don't have anything else to go by here but the pictures of the people in question, I am simply expressing doubts on that. If you are able to come back with more information on their actual jobs and pay grade, I would definitely have a rethink then.

Exactly !!

I guess there are quite a few issues when considering the possibility of working in Nigeria.

To compensate for the madness and stress, 2m a month is not asking for much.

Top management does not automatically mean one earns that much each year ooo. I know directors in top banks here who are still bringing in about $120,000 salary and people answer to them left and right too. I am more concerned about the pay grade they are being put into, the country and what that essentially means, not of how many people hang around them or bow to them really.

Again, I am going to play devil’s advocate here. It bothers me to see that someone with your experience and education is looking for how to pull 2M a month in naija when infact you should be thinking about creating jobs and employing people. With your experience have to thought of starting an IT consulting firm??
The problem as most posters have already stated is that the market is saturated every dick and harry has a foreign MS degree from any university, most of them are roaming the streets now trying to find jobs. Companies are all about cutting costs, I can guarantee that there are people that have the same skill set as you and companies are willing to pay less than you are demanding. Gone at the days (mid 2000’s) when corporate Nigeria worshipped people with foreign degrees.
I work in finance (m&a) and know of friends that came to the states for mba/ms went back home are jobless, and these folks have mba’s from top15 b-schools.

Now will be the time to work your phone and reconnect with any contacts you have in Naija. Ideally you can work for someone, make ur connections and branch out in abt 2-3yrs. Eventually 2M will become pocket change smiley

Just my two cents.

i dont need to come up with nothing. like i said i know 2 people personally who are directors at etisalat. one of them was my senior at ijanikin (boarding school in badagry i went to after being plucked out of london FGCL ) and the other is someone i used to party with in nigeria but who lived in america for a while before relocating back to naija. and i know for a FACT that they both earn 48 million naira a year. whether you chose to believe it is your wahala. i got nothing to prove.

Thank you my dear.

I heard a story from a relative which goes like this :

When the Nigerian boss of a department is travelling to the US or UK for example, most of the staff in that department will normally escort him to the airport in an almost homage like fashion.

Failure to do so could be seen as not showing enough respect or worse still, as a sign of insubordination.

Madness I say.

We must rid ourselves of all this inferiority superiority complex.

It is quite common among the Nigerian elite.

We are talking here about experience, not degrees.

Experience in some of the most technically advanced and professional environments in the world , and that have customers from the Fortune 500 companies.

From the top of my head, I know pple who have comparable experience with you in the states that lost their jobs during the recession or still have their current jobs and will in a heartbeat take a job for less than 2M in naija. Experience matters over degrees sure, but one thing that is not on your side - COMPETITION. The market place has qualified people right now and IT skills are easily transferable. I see lots of Snr Manager level folks sending me resumes for associate type positions.
Suck it up work for ~2M a month make your connections and start your own, that is the optimal way out, and everything most not be in place to start ur own business, savvy business folks see oppurtunities NO MATTER the situation.

Just a side thot, if you worked for an IT outsourcing outfit then the odds are higher.

a company that has 5 million subscribers in nigeria. now i have not been to nigeria in a while  so i dont know how much they charge but lets assume that each subscriber pays like 10000 a month. this will be 1200000 a year. multiplied by 5 million. this is sales of 600 billion naira in nigeria annually. you think such a company is not paying its directors a mere 48 million naira yearly ?
