myright: You mean an afonja contractor screwed up on this construction and innocent imolites have been receiving unwarranted bashing on this forum? Since when did people who build thatch houses start building skyscrapers? |

This building looks as if it was abandoned and work latter started on it |

Smartiyke40: Its big business, though I don't hear IMO state listed as a tourist attraction like cross river. even international conferences are not held there, so what are the hotels for? Guess they do a lot of fucking in IMO, hence the brothels. (they re definitely not 5 star) 1 Like |

When I look around me and see towering buildings and it serenity I start wondering if this world get too sides, my first time in Lagos it was sight to behold but when I crossed the border I find out that Lagos and the rest of Nigeria cities are over glorified villages that has nothing to offer |

quentin06: Imo was the biggest host of conferences in Nigeria under Okorocha but Ihedioha came and started trying to demonize event hosting and hospitality because Okorocha did exceptionally well there. At a point Presidents of African countries were visiting Owerri unofficially on a regular basis. 2 Likes |

The columns are like tent poles. How on earth did they expect those tiny columns without fortified steels beams sippprts to hold the heavy structure that the building will eventually become? Trial and error mudefucking engineers in an unregulated and lawless country. |
Re: Owerri Collapsed Building: Before And After Photos by SpaceTour: 4:47pm On May 01, 2020 |
quentin06: Imo state particularly Owerri is a jungle and a shithole. There are almost 100% dilapidated roads in Owerri, coupled with filth almost everywhere. Owerri and Aba shares alot of similarities, especially in bad roads and filth. The only thing going for Imo state is commercial sex hawking and cheap brothels. No sane person wakes up to visit Owerri except to go import their cheap girls that are only good for prostitution. Don't allow the hopeless jobless old gworo man called abagworo to deceive you.

myright: I doubt both reasons 1. The structural engineer would have checked for that during design . 2. 15-20 Mpa Sumire than sufficient which is 1:5:7 by pan weight which this site engineer would know very well. My suspicion would be 1. Poor rebar craftsmanship but I doubt ; a seasoned engineer will know to check rebar works over considerably before casting 2. Most likely soil settlement; hence causing redistribution of forces |

blackbriar:I am not an engineer. But I suspect the soil too. It could not bear the weight of the blocks being added to the already completed skeleton |
Re: Owerri Collapsed Building: Before And After Photos by myright: 5:12pm On May 01, 2020 |
blackbriar:By 1:5:7 do you mean 1 bag of cement, 10 pan of sand and 14 pan of coarse aggregate? |

Hmmmmm, the engineer handling the project must be prosecuted, he didn't consult COREN at all. |

I can never trust Nigeria builders with such a project, na to hire Julius Berger, Simona etc |
Re: Owerri Collapsed Building: Before And After Photos by Igholize(m): 6:20pm On May 01, 2020 |
Firstly, soil test was not done to know the soil bearing capacity, 2ndly, no structural design analysis drawing, I.e, look closely to the picture of the building nd you will see that, all the columns are uniform, note, there is no way a structure of this magnitude will have dsame columns(Pilar's) if there is structural design analysis drawing. 3rdly, no design specifications and the structure is been constructed by unqualified civil/structural engineers. These factors made the structure to collasped. |

Sometimes is the fault of the engineers because some of them will use fake materials when they are paid for original materials. And what result do you expect fake materials to give you rather than things like this. |

Hope nobody died in the building ? Life is more precious than money ...the Engineer supervising the work must be in soup by now bit he will be blameless if the owner did not allow him to do his work independently |

NextD18: Checking of soil properties is major problem in Nigeria..some just pay a technologist to form soil results for them without doing proper soil tests. |

Second posted picture of the building with buses parked in the front is not a true picture of the collapsed building but another building near Concorde hotel. If the aim of the poster is to link it to the collapsed one, it is rather very unfortunate. |

NextD18: The contractor is very much at fault if proper investigation is carried out, I know this building very well, the very first day I saw it while traveling from Edo State to Port Harcourt due to the number of workers I saw there this thought came to my mind, he was managing everything in his possession. |
