A master's degree is very significant. Especially in cases, where the student didn't do so well at the undergraduate level. A master's provides a boost. Big companies like Mobil, Nnpc etc don't normally send invites to 2.2 and below. But they concede if you have a 2.2 plus a master's (with distinction). Also, in more recent times, BSc has become as popular as leaving school certificate, hence the need to step up your qualifications which will ultimately give you the edge. Don't listen to people saying, MSc is a waste of time. Trust me it's just one year sometimes 18months, but the certificate stays with you for life. Think about it. If you want to lecture, it's almost a must you have one too. Without further ado, if you have the chance to up your qualifications, please do. 40 Likes 5 Shares |

No qualification ''guarantees'' jobs, but it can enhance your chances of getting jobs. Acquire it, if only you have the means. 15 Likes 2 Shares |

NOPE! Too many people have first and second degrees now hence the job market is way more competitive. You need something set you apart from others besides education. At least in the US context, experience is usually the deciding factor when deciding who to hire. In fact in the US, all most all employers are more interested in your experience and what you have done in the past way more than any education that you have. Your degrees are secondary. 8 Likes |

It does not any longer. Gone are the days when a masters or a foreign degree guaranteed you instant job in Nigeria. There is an over saturation in the job market now of people who meet both criteria which means companies rely more on work experience now. Just try to finish uni early. (Preferably under the age of 24) do few unpaid internships, if you have to, to get the ‘experience’ thing out of the way and then you should be good to go. Otherwise your best bet is to rely on personal connections. Which is always the surest way to get a job in Nigeria. 9 Likes 2 Shares |

It took me 5 years post bachelors degree to begin my masters program. Yes I was employed but not with the salary I quite expected, in fact not satisfactory at all. During this time I had one certification and skill but looking at it now I guess that few was enough to have kept me under-employed but afloat. You see, i didnt land all those Graduate Trainee jobs in banks, Audit giants and the likes that guarantees a young graduate's career, it was from one private organisation to another till I got to a bank(contract) while I was nearing the dreaded 26 year mark - referred to it as that because that's the "must not be more than" requirement we all fear while perusing job vacancies. While at the Bank, I couldn't see a future as well so I decided to pursue a masters - and full time at that. Working part time with skills I learnt in the past to survive and pull through. During the masters years I would usually calculate my age and wonder who would employ me at that age and what kind of jobs? It was an easy decision for a lot of my colleagues because most of them had PhD in sight especially as most had no prior work experience. For me? I was barely struggling with passing talk more of dedicating another 5 years for phD in Nigeria. Not one to relent, I graduated, pushed my resume out there and most importantly had a positive outlook. I got invited to a number of interviews and got rejected. All but this one aptitude test and interview with 15 others who were highly skilled with various certifications - knew this because we had a chat after the test. As I sat waiting for my interview, I had the only one certification I spoke of earlier which had already expired, a resume, a dusty suit I was dieng of heat in, a masters degree and positive outlook - suffice to add that I alone, got the job, and it was a fairly good one (standards change). I heard later that they considered the graduate degree on par with the certifications. That was my saving grace. I still have colleagues turn friends from those previous jobs I did and left who are still working there with no improvements. Never be afraid to fly. I am not and will never belittle certifications as I am enmeshed myself with a host of them presently. The take home is this, if you can get them all, get em'. It may not guarantee you jobs, but it sure as hello improves your prospects to land one. Always remember that the brain is still always under-utilised. 35 Likes 2 Shares |

If a regular degree can't get you a job then common sense should tell you that a master degree can neither get you any. Education in Nigeria is big fraudulent Enterprise. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Education in Nigeria is just a mere business Enterprise not a citadel of learning, people spend 3 months to 1 year to learn some digital skills and begin to earn big afterwards yet a graduate spends 4 to 7 years in school only to strat earning peanuts. Lesson: It's no longer business as usual, Nigeria's education curriculum is old. Learn some digital skill today or join us in trading where we make profit daily. It only guarantees you a higher preference for a higher position in your career (that's if you get employed in an organisation that appreciates your certificate). But on a general note, a degree (masters or bachelors) doesn't guarantee you any job. You only get certified knowledge with that. Some organisation dont care about degrees. Learn a skill and be good at it, you'll get better promotion and better pay 5 Likes |
