That must be an old refurbished ship.
Isn't that a Mikano generator conspicuously displayed at the back?
One hit in a war situation and the entire ship goes into black out.

The whole Nigerian navy is no match for ordinary US Coast guards.

With warships like the Abdel Nasser , Egypt and South Africa currently has the best warships and navy in Africa. The Nigerian Navy barely makes the top 7. Even Asari dokubo's boys are better equipped than the Nigerian navy.
I wonder how someone will comment rubbish...and people will be liking that rubbish... Smh

12 aspid missiles for air defence and the most sophisticated air defence fire control radar in the world. Pride of West Africa https:///PxojZiv11F

Most what in the world? Was it built in
Nigeria from scratch to finish? No! We
Procure it. So it’s not the most sophisticated
air defense fire control radar in the world. Thank you.

Nigerian Navy 3908 men to one ship

US Navy 34 men to one ship
if Nigeria goes to war with this nonsense 3k plus men in one navy ship, just one missile from enemy jet will kill almost everyone and that's like a fraction of navy personel, and it will demoralize troops

The Obasanjo administration I think but delivered during the Shagari regime. I have boarded it once and had lots of mags sent to me on subscription from Voss, the ship builder. Used to be badass in those days with Exocet missile capabilities from MBDA, France. But c'mon that is too long ago. The vessel ought to be retired by now.

That is unfortunately the generation of people we have now. They derive joy from first to comment syndrome . Some even announce they are first to comment back to back. Some announce they are first to comment twice a day as if it adds anything positive in their lives, They lay wait on nairaland waiting for new topics so can get in their position of achievement. Now in the cases where they do comment it is only tribal insults you see them coming up with. They are the much touted leaders of tomorrow.
Honestly, it amaze me, are they giving them money on first to comment

I never knew Aradu is still operational. It should have been decommissioned long time ago except it is being used as a training vessel for NDA cadets and officers on courses.

Going to dockyard is not news, the purpose of naval dockyard is to service ships. Aradu is a customer at that dock, this is not her first time of going there.

Na. The cost of maintenence wiil not be worth it. It is like taking a Volkswagen Beetle on a cross country journey. It can do it but you must be prepared to sleep in the bush. Ships are not only engines but systems too and these are manufacturer specific and will no longer have parts to replace.

Remember, this ship was bought about the time we were purchasing Russian Mig 21 aircraft and T-72 and even before the Alpha jet series that have all been retired. It is a very old ship. Good job to keep it floating all these years but at 40 years old this year, it should be retired.

What Nigeria should be doing with this ship is to retire it and send it to our Naval Colleges for study towards reverse enginering. That is what China and India did. That is how they started building their own massive military industrial complex.

that's why subconsciously we have refused to progress instead we are digressing. We are okay with being referred to as the giant of Africa which to me only translates to the most populated country in Africa. No foriegn or worldwide competition, just local champs bk to bk.
