Honestly, Canada. The best gift you can give your kids as a Nigerian parent is dual citizenship. Those people asking you to stay to be forming local champion here are myopic and are not looking at the bigger picture.

It's certainly not greed to want a better and more comfortable life for yourself and family.

Everytime, people will say travel first and go and see... just go on a visit, bla bla bla...who go give am visa? as if 800k per month is such a big deal.. even people earning more find it hard getting visas now..

That 800k seems big now because he never marry nor have kids..

Do what pleases you but don't think that 800k per month will give you visas to everywhere...

Stay back in Nigeria for now and go for visits to canada on tourist visa... While on visitation, learn about Canada first hand by yourself to guide your decision.
sexylassie2:
You earn 800k per month and potential to earn more in Nigeria

Why move to Canada to start again?

Your are top of the crowd here why go to lower your status in a place where you are not guaranteed of success.

With your money you could go for holiday in different part of the world when you are free, enjoy life and see the world, refresh yourself, then come back with different ideas and energy to move your biz or whatever you doing in naija to the next level.

That's if he's granted visa in the first place. The Nigerian passport is one of the most useless and despised passports in the world and increasingly, countries do not wish to issue out visas to its bearers (not even tourist visas)

On a more serious note I like the fact that you are sincere with yourself; that what you are looking for is more money. Now just to be cleared with you it is easier to make money in Nigeria than any of the so called developed countries Canada included. The only thing that is hard like hell in Nigeria is to break even and for someone earning 800k a month with potential of earning more has definitely broken even in Nigeria. You are in the top 10% and you can live like a king in your own little way with that money.Nigeria being a lawlessness country only favour the rich and getting richer too is really easy i like said compared to the western world.

Now just so you know you are equivalent to someone in the top 20% in Canada when looking at Purchasing Power Parity(PPP) don't be fooled by the exchange rate. You have what can be considered a very good job anywhere in the world in the Nigeria context. Just so you know there is no where in the world where it is easy to get this kind of job that you have. Less than 15% of any nation have such job - again I am not talking exchange rate here but standard by each country and never be fooled by the exchange rate. Over 40% of Americans can't cover $400 emergency expense. That tells you how hard it is to make money in the developed world. I can authoritatively tell you that you live a better live than 90% of Nigerians that live in the so called developed countries. Most of them are struggling they live in cubicles just to send money home to have what you can easy get right now with your salary.

Finally, ask yourself a question why do all Nigerian billionaires or almost all of them live in Nigeria? The richest Nigerians live in Nigeria and it is for one reason it is the best place to live if you have money and the worst place to live if you are poor. Only poor Nigerians or average Nigerians are obsessed with abroad. The rich ones know whatsup and they are aware that they are better off with their money living in Nigeria.

So since you are looking for money just stay in Nigeria and if you must leave make sure you get a very good offer before leaving Nigeria. Don't go to Canada and start struggling for the kind of job of you have in Nigeria. The chance that you will get that kind of job in Canada is 0.1 except you are in the IT or some highly demanding fields. Enjoy your large life style in Nigeria don't go and start living in cubicles in Canada. That is stupidity if you ask me.

Use your brain!!!!

This statement is false. There's a difference between owning homes in Nigeria and actually living there. These billionaires are smart enough to migrate thier families abroad whilst creating the illusion that they are based in Nigeria. Take Otedola for example...

Most of them live in a shared apartment with roommates so dnt be deceived
although no one will tell you bt that's the reality! If it's for your sanity then its still recommended bt earning more that can't be guaranteed!

Better still take a leave at work travel out nd see life yourself in Canada b4 relocating nd leaving your high paying job.

That friend of yours is better off than her counterparts in Nigeria.

At least she gets to experience independent living in her youth.. she gets to live in a civilised country and gain exposure to different ethic groups and cultural backgrounds, thus broadening her mindset and gaining valuable life experiences - unlike most of her Nigerian-based counterparts who have no choice but to live with their parents until somebody comes to marry them.

If it is to make money, then stay in Nigeria. It is easier to make money as a business man in Nigeria than Canada.

If you're concerned about your children, you can always go to Canada to give birth to them. Canada is like USA in that aspect. Your children will have Canadian citizenship if they are born in Canada.

One of the reasons why Nigeria cannot progress is a mentality as that of your last paragraph. He should have his kids in the West and get them the citizenship and they can come back to reap from the society in the future where their parents did not sow. All these cutting corners is never the best. He can have good health care to birth his children in Nigeria.

Ohh i see, he finished his two years studies last year nd got his three years work permit nd he could only get factory jobs, even the factory jobs he had to move from Montreal to Toronto b4 he could get one. There are restrictions but very minimal. Getting a TN visa for listed job under the NAFTA agreement is a walk in the park.

I've noticed on similar threads seeking migration advice to Canada that almost everyone advises leave the country and I'm like "is it so good in Canada?

The only reason I want to travel to Canada or any other high profile country is to make far more money than I make in Nigeria.

Now, by the Grace of God I earn over 800k monthly with promising potentials for more. I'm 32yrs and planning to settle down next year, but with so many advises saying "leaving the country to Canada is the best choice", I'm so confused right now as per what's the best choice for me. I even watched a video where a guy living in canada said he spent upto 400k monthly on expenses.

So, I want to ask and need advise from anyone living in Canada. Would you advise someone earning 800k monthly in Nigeria to leave for Canada?

Your input is highly appreciated.

The only reason I would advice you to move to Canada is so you can avoid ending up with these lazy, short-sighted Nigerian girls.

Pls leave so your chances of meeting a better female increases, possibly a Canadian female.

You can get good staff to run your business in Nigeria.

Not true, people with high income are always given visa and it is not only Europe or america, you can travel to for holiday, south africa, cape town, you will have a good holiday.

Money is a means, not an end. Money is there to help you meet your needs and reach an end goal. If you articulate what your end goal is, we can help with some insight about Canada and if it is a possible path to reaching your goals.

This statement is false. There's a difference between owning homes in Nigeria and actually living there. These billionaires are smart enough to migrate thier families abroad whilst creating the illusion that they are based in Nigeria. Take Otedola for example...

At the bolded, rich Nigerians and rich people across the globe do not have problem migrating to anywhere they choose to it is only poor people and Nigerians included that struggle and even kill themselves to migrate to anywhere in the world. With less than 2m dollar you can become an american citizen with easy but many Nigerians pass through shit to get this because they are poor. Madam no place like home and no matter how reach you are you will always be a second class citizen in a whiteman's land. It is easier for you to make name for yourself back home if you are rich. The same Otedola you are talking about who give a Bleep about him in abroad, who knows him?? What about his daughter why can't she stay abroad and build her career there? She is home and doing well to the best of her ability in naija but in abroad who give a Bleep about her

Go and check only poor Nigerians go to school abroad and never return home because of fear of poverty. Dangote's daughter all manage their father's business here, mike daughter's as well, Tinubu's son and lot of others. Mind you Seyi Tinubu did all his education abroad and has the opportunity to live there even large enough than most british but he chose to return to Nigeria. He is the CEO of his own company imagine he lives in the UK where he has to struggle to get contract because of his skin colour. Nobody will give a f**k about him there but here in Nigeria he is a boss that controls hundreds of people. The sh**t most Nigerians pass through abroad is all because they are poor and never want to return home because of poverty if you are a rich person with dignity and know your what you will never want to take those sh**t hence many of the rich Nigerians will prefer Nigeria only to go abroad for holidays.

If you have experienced what it means to live large in Nigeria or you have live closed to people who do so you will know that your abroad is trash and that is the bitter truth. How many Nigerians are head of big corporation abroad?? How many Nigerians are what 5m dollars abroad
From my interaction with people here in abroad I have come to realise that whenever i tell people that Nigeria is better when you have money the only people that disagree mostly are people who back in Nigeria the only thing they know is poverty and I cant blame them for it. It is a very bad experience to be poor in Nigeria and Nigeria is hell fire if you poor.

The guy said he is looking for more money and here you are sweet mouthing abroad for him. How many Nigerian earn above 50k dollars per annum, how many earn 100k dollars p.a in your so called abroad. The funny thing about most you is you encourage Nigerians to come abroad and when they get there to even offer help as small as it could be becomes problem. Some will even switch off their phone so the person cant reach out to them. Some are ashame because of the mess they live in after all the I live abroad gra gra.

At OP I wish you well in your decision life is all about risk the bigger the risk the bigger your success and the worst your failure also. If you allow people who live in cubicles abroad and the only things they know back home is poverty decide your future. If allow people who work in factories, people who are educated but are doing unskilled jobs make decision for you. If you allow people who have no value in their place of work as compare to you that is well respected in your place of work decide for you. If you allow someone that is sharing an apartment or who has 2 bedroom flats with 3 kids decide for you.If you allow people who wish they had the kind of job you have right now to decide for you. It is your life and i wish you well that is all I can say.

Guy, you are making a lot of money already in Nigeria right now. You can comfortably save 50% of your salary. You might not be able to save a lot here in Canada, but your standard of living and cost of living will be higher. So if you want more money Nigeria might be good but what is the value of this money with inflation catching up. Lemme give you my experience

The Big question is not about what you earn now, but the value of what you earn in a few years time. In 2015 USD was N160, i was planning to do an online MBA course which was about 45K USD then it was just 7.2m, i got the admission and deferred the program for a year. By 2016 exchange rate was now 360 and the program would now cost me 16.2m, i clearly could not put that kind of money on some MBA (not like i had it anyway). I started thinking of investing in property instead and i noticed I didn't have enough to get a good property (was earning 500k per month). In the end i decided to ask myself why did the exchange rate depreciate so badly within such a short period of time and what are the chances it will get better (Balance of trade, Import driven economy, over dependence on oil (monoproduct economy), extreme corruption, myopic leadership, lack of basic amenities to support economic growth) have this things changed since then, the answer is no, currently Naira is still depreciating as if we are the only ones affected by covid. As of 2017 IMF stated that if the Naira was actually flexed it's real value to the dollar was about N520 to a dollar, then i read about Venezuela a country very similar to ours their currency is now so bad, they can't afford a lot of necessities (drugs, food et all). May things never get that bad for Nigeria.

Our leaders are not visionary people, things will not get better unless there is a big change in our system of governance. Nigeria is currenly the poverty capital of the world. When you have so many poor people around then the rich will not be safe (so you migh want to consider security)

Basic Amenities : You won't fix the roads, and power is still a big issue.

I completed my Master's in Canada in December, I got a low paying clerk Job in January and had to stop due to Covid, but i still purchased a 2015 SUV without taking credit, but my wife has been working for over a year now, she was recently approved for a mortgage and her pay is not even fantastic. I have peace of mind, I see people doing what we call odd Jobs living well. In conclusion, just look at the pros and cons and make your choice Canada also has its ills, there is racism, your kids might turn to drugs, LGBT thingy, distance from family, bad weathe, high bills & taxes, little savings etc. But ask yourself How was Nigeria 10 years ago compared to now as it progressed. And like someone said You can't be a lizard in Nigeria and suddenly become a Crocodile in Canada. If you have what it takes to succeed you will succeed anywhere.
