The number of research paper output is not equal to innovation, change or new knowledge. I've published papers too. I can submit the same paper or its iteration to different journals or submit stage by stage progress of the same research to journals Stop hyping covenant They can't compare with any of the older universities like Ibadan, UNN, ABU, Lagos or Ife 13 Likes 2 Shares |

You can publish junks in papers with zero impact factor. What you should care about is h-index. Clearly, Nigerians on that list have better h-index number. 5 Likes |

Thank God, the researcher is neither Igbo nor Yoruba...if not, some stupid tribal bigot would have flooded this thread and be here saying "Igbo or Yoruba Amaka....as if the world recognizes Nigerian 's products... Hardly can you see world-class Naija products... It is always a case of the one-man eye king in the midst of blind men. TUeh! 8 Likes 1 Share |

not surprised in a country where computer scientist can't code unless he partake in extra lesson by same lecturer, when mechanical engineers can't even dismantle an engine and couple it back, where civil engineers do the job of an Architect, where president have NEPA bill as waec certificate, where a corrupt governor like ganduje is still gallivanting under the influence of immunity , where military journalist thinks everything on wheel is a tank, where secret police called DSS refutes judicial order 5 Likes |

Good but research output is nothing compared to citations. Citations is the main thing and it is still poor. 3 Likes |

Dansuqi:Stop talking nonsense. There are Nigerians on that list that have better research outputs than the person the OP placed as Number 1 and they are black men. To the OP, research outputs and productivity are measured more by citations and h-index and not the number of papers published as you've done here. Stop being mischievous. There are people on that list with h-index 35, 36 and even as high as 72. You can't compare them with this man you placed as Number 1 with an h-index of just 17. There are many Nigerians home and abroad that have way more than that. 10 Likes |

As much as I concede that there are fine scholars in CU, isn't it sweeping to use SciVal as overall metrics in determining performance of research bearing in mind that it is based on publications on Scopus alone? If you see serious research countries, they don't even take Scopus serious unlike Web of Science. This title is kind of misleading and inaccurate in my honest opinion. 9 Likes |

iwriterng: I looked at that table and laughed hard at the OP, I saw scholars with an H-index of 72, 36, 35, and 32, and yet the OP is yapping about someone with an H-index of 17. Professor Ganiyu Oboh has over 300 publications in reputable journals and man is not even done yet. This thread is simply a Covenant University hype thread. 12 Likes |

Lol I'm here to Burst y'all inflated balls today. Covenant university seems to be good and all that but the volume of research seems to hamper on the quality of the research. How can one person produce 200+ scholarly work in 5yrs? Are they only into research or they teach/lecture as well? Average citations per research work Dr Sunday ojo had 225 publications with 619 citations in 5yrs that's an average of 619/225=2.7 Only per research work in an average of 5yrs Dr Moses Emetere 384/211= 1.8 citations per paperonly in an average of 5yrs Dr Hilary okagbue 846/142=5.9 citations per research work and this is by far your best research, take it or leave it. Professor Roland Loto(I hear he isn't up to 40, big ups to him) 446/133=3.3 citations per paper in an average of five years The above means hardly anybody takes covenant uni research seriously, I bet the citations include their own previously done work(s). I think this has to do with volume rather than quality of the work. If we go further to divide the computations above by 5 or 3 to get the average number of citations per year the result would be more miserable but it won't be fair since the work wasn't really stretched evenly over the time under review. And if for some reason this is the average citations for other Nigerian lecturers than we are really doomed(our educational sector I mean) and don't think that because I didn't analyze the Indian dude doesn't make him any less worse. Covenant university should focus more on quality of research. If you tell me that covenant has the most citations for any Nigerian university then I'll know something is wrong with your head because each lecturer producing an average of 100 work with an average of 1.5 citations while a UI lecturer might produce an average of 15 with an average of 6 citations (for example) should tell why you might have more citations. How much does covenant spend per research because I don't see why and how a mechanical engineering lecturer is having over 100 publications in 5 yrs with less than at the very least #50million at his disposal for the total research work except he is telling us what we already know. But what do I know..... God punish the mod that deleted this from comment no 5 16 Likes 2 Shares |

ProfAmaben: This. This article is click bait. Anyone knows that in research quality, H-index and citations take precedence. This article was trying to elicit a specific reaction from those who are not familiar with academic research on this site and I’m sure they’ll get it.
