Joebie: There is a reason why coaches have mandates. I've never heard an SE coach get the mandate to win 20 number of matches out of 30 for example. It's always based on winning a cup or making a certain level of progress at tourneys. some kind of arguments is not just worth it. Before Rohr's appointment, you know the state of the national team. Missing out on two AFCONs and was ranked among no footballing states in the ranking. What was Rohrs mandate? Get to the AFCON semis and Qualify for the World cup. Did he fail on that? Nah, he delivered the desired result. |

benji93: He could? Did he? Of course, he did. Rohr would be glad he can achieve what Keshi has. Do you not remember the crop of players Keshi won with, and to top it, we got to the knockout stage of the world cup, the following year. We have not had this crop of players in a long time, honestly. Most of them are young but we've got a talented bunch in our hands. I repeat Rohr better do something with this. And I actually do believe there are local coaches out there that can do as much as Rohr with this crop of players. He hasn't done much with the team anyway. By this I mean we will have to wait till he starts winning trophies to properly assess him. The thing is we would like to have a number of local coaches excelling, and acquiring some technical shrewdness, although at the moment good local coaches are very scarce. Thanks do our system. Stop believing. How many of these coaches have given better results. it's ironic nairaland now set Keshi as a benchmark for successful local coach. Same Keshi majority of you here said was tactically inept? Same Keshi lot of you denigrated his achievements, stating he was lucky to have won the AFCON and shit? I still believed Keshi is the best Eagle's coach but it's fallacy to say he would perform better with these set of players as he could even perform worse with them. Remember his ego made him ignore some top players in the team, same could repeat if Keshi is coach today. We have a coach who is building a team which you all are proud of but it seems he ain't your favourite. let the local coach get the team, since he will surely get a better result. Bullcrap! Let the local coach build his own team and get better results. |

Which Nigerian coach do you know who has given us a "better result"? Have you suddenly forgotten the era of "no minnows in football"? Let uzoho get back to playing first because he is still recovering from injury When both are fit, Uzoho is ahead, and right now, there is no professional football match being played between the two of em. Uzoho will likely recover before the next international break; and there is no rule barring a player from playing after recovering. |

TheGoodJoe: World Cup 2010: Germany Coach Joachim Loew Reveals That Attacking Play Is The Only Way To Success
Germany World Cup 2010 head coach Joachim Low has revealed the blueprint for the exciting attacking play which has his side on the cusp of success.
“The plans for how we wanted to play at the World Cup have been thought over long and hard since the draw on December 4," Loew revealed.
"Our analysis was quite clear: we could only win the World Cup by playing attacking football and making life difficult for other teams.
"The way that Italy won the title in 2006, by defending and winning by a single goal, is no longer possible – you don’t get anywhere playing like that nowadays. We planned the World Cup all the way to the final.”
https://www.goal.com/en/news/1863/world-cup-2010/2010/07/05/2010977/world-cup-2010-germany-coach-joachim-loew-reveals-that-attacking-
I wonder where you got the idea of Joachim Loew being a defensive coach. Not his style and has never been his style.
Look at the last paragraph of his quote. You will see that the idea of just holding your cards to your chest and winning anyway possible is passing fast.
Look at the teams in recent years from National football, champions league to leagues across Europe. One thing is King, offensive/possessive play.
You can go through games and tourneys trying to win games but from the German side, to be great, you prepare for greatness.
Liverpool and Man City dominate because of preparation to dominate.
From Germany, Spain, to an extent France, you see sides built for attacking fluency.
Nigeria did not get to the height we did in US 94 and Atalanta 96 by defending and hoping on the gods to decorate us with good performance. We went toe-to-toe against some of the besr and caused them problems.
We need to change our orientation or get swept away by the tide of modern football. ... Summary The German team are one of the most exciting teams at the World Cup in terms of their young talent and array of attacking options. Although Löw has been accused of defensive tactics the team has the ability to counter-attack quickly in incisive break-aways. This might just be the beginning of a very successful national side. https://timhi./2010/06/05/high-hopes-for-low-and-his-young-talent-germany-2010/The above was before the 2010 world cup. I watched the World cup, Germany being my favourite team, and it was clear they were a counter-attacking side. ... Which brings us to Germany. They too play a 4-2-3-1 and, although Philipp Lahm breaks forward occasionally, theirs is essentially a defensive set-up. Here again goals are the great betrayers; it was bewildering how much praise was heaped on their supposedly fresh, open approach just because they scored four goals in three games. This Germany was superb on the counterattack, and the interaction of the front four of Miroslav Klose, Thomas Müller, Lukas Podolski and Mesut Ozil was at times breathtaking. But this was reactive football. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2010/jul/09/world-cup-2010-tactics-the-questionHave we ever had a better team than this German squad? |

TheGoodJoe: I agree with Arabiandude. Whether National or club, it is football. It boils down to adopting a system and picking the right players for the system.
The reason why we suffer here is because of the entitled players which end up equating to our strength. We have dropped our scouting, game play projections and training to suit a particular way.
If we get a coach from the offensive football philosophy, he will get our team to play in an offensive fashion. We are limited by the tactical ability of the coach, his philosophical training and those drawing the strings around him.
That is why I will keep push for coaches who grew up mentally under the offensive/possessive philosophy.
As for Arsene Wenger, you can not blame the system when he decided not to have a quality defensive midfielder over the years. Germany National with Joachim Loew scored the most goals in the 2010 world cup playing defensively, even with their array of stars; the same team with Joachim Loew went on to win the 2014 world cup. I have the feeling they failed in the 2018 world cup because they played attacking football. |

jihday: chei, comparing NT football with club football. Don't also forget that Liverpool (Rodgers) Arsenal (Wenger) once conceded 51 goals while playing attacking football, Norwich play attacking football and they've conceded 52 goals already. The key is play according to your strength no be by attacking football This exactly is the point instead of being blinded by the love of sexy football. |

Arabiandude: Guardiola was playing attacking football at Barca and he was conceeding less than those playing DF. Guardiola and Klop both plays AF at Man City and Liverpool and they both concede lesser goals compares to other English teams that plays DF. Playing AF doesn't equates to conceding more if your tactics is good.
Play attacking football and keep the ball, your opponent won't even see the ball not to talk of scoring you You seem to forget they both had to get players who'd do that, a luxury one can't afford in a national team like the Super Eagles. The kind of players we claim to have do not look like they'll concede less, take the Lesotho game for example. As there are fans who prefer attacking football, there plenty of fans like me who'd prefer the results are gotten no matter what method. I'd prefer we won a top team while defending to losing ridiculously because I want to play attacking sexy football. National team is not Clubside. |
