Millions of dollars spent in advertising suggests that they must have known that this will cause an uproar. My take is that this was done deliberately to generate controversy and put the name lf the company on everyone's lips- kardashian style.

The intention of the advert was to show that even children can lean (figuratively) on Audi.

In other words, the advert is telling us that even children can find Audi dependable. Something that you can lean on is something that gives you support. Something that you can depend on.

Your own suggestion of having the girl sit at the driver's seat will mess up the intent of the advert. It would not make any important sense.

We hoped we could convey these messages, showing that even for the weakest traffic participants it is possible to relaxingly lean on the RS technology. That was a mistake! Audi never intended to hurt anyone’s feelings.

We sincerely apologize for this insensitive image and ensure that it will not be used in future.

We will also immediately examine internally, how this campaign has been created and if control mechanisms failed in this case. “

However, other social media users said they could not see what was “offensive” or “provocative” about the advert.
